So, without further ado, my top twelve group activities for Halloween:

1. Do a virtual pumpkin carving class

Carve out some time with your team (the puns continue) with virtual pumpkin carving. It’s an alternative to an in-person pumpkin carving Halloween team building activity for remote and hybrid teams.

This is one of my favorite Halloween virtual events for work because it’s great from start to finish. Your team members will have carving kits delivered to their doors ahead of time, which really amps up the excitement. (I mean, who doesn’t love getting presents?)

Next, they’ll hop on an event hosted by a Master Pumpkin Sculptor, have fun together, and wrap things up with awards and prizes.

Pro tip: This is also a great way to celebrate National Pumpkin Day on October 26th! 

2. Compete in classic pumpkin races

Whether you’ve heard of the world-famous Pumpkin Races or not, this one’s always a hit. Our Pumpkin Race is an in-person event where your team will work together to assemble and design pumpkin racers before competing for the Grand Champion title. 

This is one of the most fun and unusual Halloween team building ideas your team will ever experience! Trust me. 

I’ll never forget the first time we tried Pumpkin Racing. I admit, I was a bit skeptical until I saw teams from a tech company get super invested in the aerodynamic designs and weight distribution of their individual pumpkins—it was like watching Formula 1! 

The top two teams had these strategically designed racers that just demolished the rest of the competition. One was lovingly titled the “over-engineered gourd,” and it became a mascot for the rest of the day. I think that was when I knew we’d found a winner!

3. Give everyone creepy treats

This is less of an engaged, hands-on Halloween team building activity and more of a fun gift to your team. No matter how you approach it, you’ll have plenty of tasty cookies, candies, cocktails, and other treats to enjoy after the event! 

Whether you’re in-person, virtual, or hybrid, just look for a fun way to provide your team with a wealth of creepy treats, spooky cocktails, and candy platters. You can even make it a Halloween food contest and give a special prize to the winners.

4. Shake up some spooky mocktails

Want the festive cocktail energy without the booze? Spirit-free spooky drinks are one of the easiest Halloween office ideas to make inclusive for everyone on the team.

6. Try a haunted house escape room

Speaking of haunted houses, think your team is brave enough to try a virtual Haunted House Escape Room? I do! 

This Halloween team building activity is one of my favorites every year. Your team will compete against each other while solving cryptic clues and completing hilarious photo challenges to be the first to escape the virtual haunted house.

Escape rooms also make awesome Halloween-themed icebreakers since new team members will get to show off their skills as integral parts of the equation.

7. Catapult and smash some pumpkins

Okay, I know this isn’t a normal Halloween team building activity, but we all need to blow off some steam every now and then. Workdays can be draining, so what better way to let loose and prevent burnout than catapulting pumpkins and watching them explode? 

Trust me, our Halloween version of Catapult to Success will be sure to give your team a day they will remember, whether you’re hosting the event for Halloween or just as a Fall team building idea.

This whole thing started in 2017 when PEAK Scientific got in touch with us about a team building program. They saw our Catapult to Success program and raised us catapulting pumpkins—pure genius. 

You’ll use household materials to build a launching mechanism for mini pumpkins before competing to see who can fling theirs the furthest and be crowned champion. It’s an experience like no other, and it’ll keep your teams talking for years to come.

8. Take on a Squid Game-inspired challenge

If your team loves a little high-stakes drama, this is the Halloween team game for you (minus the actual stakes, of course). Our Squad Game puts teamwork and creativity to the test across five immersive challenges inspired by the hit show.

I might be a bit biased, but I highly recommend trying this one! These really hold a special place in my heart, partially because my first venture was The Mystery Cafe, a murder mystery theatre that did weekly dinner shows in a Boston bar’s basement. 

This was before murder mystery dinners were trending, and my first show was Death and Taxes (a comedy about corporate greed). 

We transformed that dark, old basement into a fully immersive crime scene, smashed enough mirrors to bring a lifetime of bad luck, and took down towering 8-foot doors to create custom sets that bore no resemblance to the basement bar.

This article clears all of that up. I’ll walk you through what Boss’s Day is, where it came from, when Boss’s Day 2026 lands, and how your team can celebrate in a way that feels real instead of forced.

I’m David Goldstein, founder of TeamBonding, and I’ve spent more than three decades watching teams figure out how to appreciate one another. I’ve also been the boss on the receiving end of these gestures, which gives me a slightly unusual vantage point. Here’s what I’ve learned: the best celebrations have almost nothing to do with the size of the gift and everything to do with whether they feel honest.

What is Boss’s Day? 

Boss’s Day is an annual workplace observance set aside for employees to thank the managers and supervisors who lead them. It started in 1958, when Patricia Bays Haroski, a secretary at State Farm Insurance in Illinois, registered the holiday with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. She chose October 16 because it was her father’s birthday, and he happened to be her boss.

In 1962, the governor of Illinois made it official, and by 1979, Hallmark had cards on the shelf for it. Today, the holiday goes by a few names: National Boss’s Day, Bosses Day, and sometimes Supervisor Appreciation Day. It shows up on calendars across the U.S. and in a growing list of other countries.

When is Boss’s Day 2026?

Boss’s Day 2026 falls on Friday, October 16. The date is fixed; when it lands on a weekend, the celebration shifts to the closest workday. In 2026, you catch a break, because the 16th is a Friday. Let’s start with some 2026 stats that show why this sector is having a moment:

• In 2024, meetings and events generated more than $126 billion in travel-related spending in the U.S. and directly supported nearly 620,000 American jobs, according to the U.S. Travel Association.

• In-person is back, with intention: Hybrid is still in the toolkit, but in-person formats are once again the norm. People want to be in the room.
• Experiences over agendas: Improving the attendee experience is the top priority for meeting professionals heading into 2026, and 42% of attendees say they want more interactive sessions, like workshops and demos. Death by PowerPoint is finally on its way out.
• AI as a planning partner: From content generation and theme creation to attendee matchmaking and budget optimization, AI is showing up across the meetings and events industry.
• Sustainability and inclusion baked in: These aren’t add-ons anymore. They’re baseline expectations for the audiences you’re trying to reach.
• Rising costs: It’s not all rosy. More than 70% of pros expect costs to climb in 2026, so creativity and clear ROI matter more than ever.

If there’s one thread running through all of this, it’s that meetings have to mean something. The bar is higher than it used to be, and that’s a good thing.

Planning a successful corporate event comes down to a handful of fundamentals. I’ve watched every version of brilliant and disastrous over the years, and the events that actually work tend to follow this pattern:

1. Start with the goal, not the activity: Are you onboarding new hires? Launching a product? Rewarding top sellers? Reconnecting two merging departments? The goal drives every other decision.
2. Know your audience: A leadership offsite for the C-suite is not the same animal as a holiday party for 800 employees. Plan for the people who are actually showing up.

4. Build in real connection: Adding team building to the agenda is the difference between attendees clocking in and attendees leaning in. More on that in a second.

I’m biased, sure, but the research backs it up. According to Gallup, engaged teams show 23% higher profitability and significantly lower turnover. Building shared experiences and a sense of belonging drives all of it.

• Have each employee think up three things about themselves: two are true, one is a lie.

Barter puzzle

All you need for this game is about an hour and a few jigsaw puzzles. This game works best with groups of four or fewer people. Here’s how you play:

• Jumble up the pieces of multiple jigsaw puzzles, one for each group.
• Divide the jumbled pieces equally between the puzzle boxes.
• Give each group a box and situate all the teams at a large table. Ask each group to complete the puzzle shown on their box.
• Encourage the teams to negotiate and trade with other teams to complete their puzzles. This builds problem-solving, creative thinking, and teamwork.
• The first team to complete their puzzle wins!

Jeopardy

I’ve always said that early summer is one of the best times of year to bring a team together: it’s the season when everybody’s hopeful. There’s also something about summer that gives people permission to let loose. No one’s thinking about emails or deadlines when they’re running across a field or laughing their way through a team challenge.

Research backs this up, too. Getting outside improves mental abilities like thinking, reasoning, and problem-solving, while also reducing stress and anxiety. That’s not just good for your team’s wellbeing; it’s good for your business.
