In a world full of distractions and easily sidetracked individuals, finding effective employee morale boosters can feel like an uphill battle. I’m the founder of TeamBonding, and after decades of helping organizations build stronger, happier teams, I can tell you that low morale is one of the most expensive problems a business can ignore.

Low employee morale costs more than just productivity. It leads to higher turnover rates and directly impacts your bottom line. In fact, companies with engaged employees have higher earnings per share, according to Gallup. With 90% of employees getting distracted at least once a day and losing an average of 1 hour and 18 minutes of productivity, addressing morale is essential.

In this article, I’ll share my top employee morale boosters, backed by real experience and expert insights, so you can start building a workplace people actually want to show up to.

Why does employee morale matter?

Higher workplace morale directly contributes to increased motivation, productivity, creativity, connection, and retention. When you encourage a company culture with high levels of morale, you create an environment where employees feel:

Motivated to do their best as they navigate responsibilities

Focused and productive as they complete daily tasks

Empowered to take initiative and lean into their personal creativity

Connected to their fellow team members and the company as a whole

Valued for their contributions and loyal to the company

That last point is especially important. When people feel genuinely valued, it changes everything about how they approach their work. And that’s exactly what the right morale boosters at work are designed to do.

How to spot the symptoms of low employee morale

Before implementing morale building activities, it’s important to take stock of the current morale situation in your workplace. Here are some telltale signs of low employee morale to watch for:

Lack of cooperation: When office morale is low, employees are generally less likely to work well together or accept complex tasks from leadership.

Few personal conversations: Friendly conversations aren’t required for successful business operations, but a scarcity of personal communication could be a direct symptom of low morale.

Rare personal initiatives: If fewer employees are taking the initiative to improve the company, it could be a sign that morale has dipped.

Increased turnover: A higher number of people leaving could be a sign that morale is dropping across the organization.

Overall poor performance or attitude: This one can be gradual and easy to overlook. Ask yourself: are your employees doing less than they used to? Is negativity more common?

Quiet quitting: This is a major symptom of low morale, where employees put in only the minimum effort needed to keep their jobs. These employees are often actively disengaged and disinvested.

If you notice any of these signs, chances are you’re past due for some morale boosters at work. It’s time to get your employees engaged and energized.

Start building staff morale right away with a survey

Regardless of how you feel about the signs above, it’s a good idea to see what your employees think, too. Consider issuing a company-wide employee survey to get some firsthand insights.

A survey is a great first step because it lets your team members know that you’re thinking about their feelings and you want to hear what they have to say. As Mark DeCarlo put it on our Team Building Saves the World podcast, when people feel heard, valued, and included in the process, that’s when the real magic happens at work.

Consider sending an employee recognition survey to better understand how your employees want to be recognized and appreciated.

Top 7 ways to boost morale at work

Ready to address morale levels in your workplace so you can watch engagement and productivity rise? Here are my favorite employee morale boosters.

You’ll notice a trend here: many of the recommendations on this list involve team building in one form or another. That’s because it works. I’ve spent my entire career watching it transform teams. Team building makes people feel like important stakeholders in their company, and once that switch flips, morale building activities practically take care of themselves. The quit rate drops, people are happier, and their output improves, all without a major financial investment.

1. Encourage in-office play

Organizing team building games for your employees can help create quality relationships among staff and allow them to de-stress, which in turn can increase work morale.

If you’re on a budget but still want to incorporate play into the regular schedule, here are a few fun, engaging, and accessible in-office morale building activities:

Two truths and a lie

This is a tried-and-true communication game that enables your employees to get to know each other in a fun way. The gameplay is simple:

Have each employee think up three things about themselves: two are true, one is a lie.

Ask them to share with the group. The rest of the group votes on what they think was the lie.

This is a fantastic (and completely free) way to get people to open up, share some laughs, and boost workplace morale.

Barter puzzle

All you need for this game is about an hour and a few jigsaw puzzles. This game works best with groups of four or fewer people. Here’s how you play:

Jumble up the pieces of multiple jigsaw puzzles, one for each group.

Divide the jumbled pieces equally between the puzzle boxes.

Give each group a box and situate all the teams at a large table. Ask each group to complete the puzzle shown on their box.

Encourage the teams to negotiate and trade with other teams to complete their puzzles. This builds problem-solving, creative thinking, and teamwork.

The first team to complete their puzzle wins!

Jeopardy

If you’d like a game show-inspired activity, our officially licensed Jeopardy!® game is available in virtual, hybrid, and in-person formats and can be customized for your team.

You can also organize a DIY version as a free office morale booster:

Choose four to six categories, such as company history, pop culture, random trivia, industry facts, or office lingo.

Create five questions per category, with increasing difficulty and point values.

Build the game board on PowerPoint, Google Slides, or Kahoot.

Designate a host, a scorekeeper, and two to four teams of players.

Have teams take turns picking questions, with the option to buzz in if the original team answers incorrectly.

The team with the most points wins! Consider gift cards for the winning team and snacks for everyone.

Try improv games

Whether you’re leading a meeting, addressing a crisis, or talking to a client, business improv is an invaluable skill that improves outcomes in the workplace. It also makes for one of the best employee morale boosters because it gets people laughing, thinking on their feet, and building trust with their teammates all at the same time.

I’ve seen firsthand how improv games break down walls between people who barely spoke to each other before the session started. There’s something about the spontaneity and laughter that levels the playing field and helps everyone loosen up.

Want to try this with your team? We published a free book of improv exercises designed for all levels of experience, including step-by-step instructions for games like Yes And, Pass the Clap, Count to 20, Party Quirks, and Excuses, Excuses.

2. Try a virtual reality game

We all need an escape from the real world from time to time. Virtual reality games are a fun and unique way to increase work morale while trying something completely new. They also make fantastic morale boosters for employees because they create shared experiences that people actually remember and talk about long after the event.

Take our Infinite Loop program, for example. Through VR, teams compete to rescue a prisoner trapped in the virtual world. Fast-paced challenges are tracked on an electronic leaderboard, fueling the spirit of fun, friendly competition. It’s one of those morale building activities that people genuinely can’t stop talking about afterward.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-66146" src="https://www.teambonding.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/The-Infinite-Loop-TIL-300x169.jpg" alt="Participant wearing a VR headset during The Infinite Loop team building event, collaborating with teammates to solve virtual challenges.
3. Get out of the office during work hours

While it’s easier and often cheaper to stay in the office for your morale building activities, the benefits of getting outside are hard to overstate.

Research shows that taking breaks during work can increase creativity, prevent decision fatigue, and boost wellbeing. Even for virtual teams, there are activities you can organize that encourage employees to step away from their desks.

Here are a few excellent office morale boosters to get everyone out of the daily grind:

Escape rooms

Escape rooms have been popular for a while, and for good reason. They’re fun, and they require critical thinking and problem-solving to complete.

Groups must work together to solve puzzles and make connections in order to escape. The feeling of accomplishment after a successful escape is one of the best ways to boost morale at work and bond a team.

Scavenger hunts

Another out-of-office employee morale booster is a scavenger hunt. It’s a surefire way to get everyone excited and engaged in friendly competition.

Scavenger hunts offer fun ways to motivate teams to work toward a common goal. Creative leaders can design their own with almost any theme and location. If you prefer hands-off activities so you can join in on the fun, check out our fully hosted scavenger hunts.

Virtual laughter yoga

Have a virtual team that needs a quick boost? Try Virtual Laughter Yoga. This 1-hour session teaches yoga techniques focused on enhancing health and happiness, deep breathing exercises, and relieving stress. It’s a fantastic morale booster to schedule every few months.

4. Incorporate a wellness program

Sometimes, morale boosters at work need to take a more holistic approach. We all know that a healthy lifestyle leads to improved mood, which leads to better morale and higher productivity.

Investing in work-life balance tends to positively impact each employee’s personal morale, as well as collective workplace morale. Staff members who feel supported on both personal and professional levels will be more inclined to go the extra mile.

If your organization is prioritizing employee well-being, consider a wellness program. These can be tailored for virtual, hybrid, or in-person teams and focus on giving your team the skills and support they need to maintain workplace wellness.

5. Get out of town

The bonding that happens when people step away from their daily routine can supercharge the impact of employee morale boosters. If you can, consider investing in an annual retreat to make your employees feel valued.

Then, schedule some fun team building activities to make the retreat exciting. Who doesn’t love a good sand sculpting competition? Or a day at the museum?

Retreats also help encourage real-life friendships outside of work, which makes for a more enjoyable work life overall. This is especially valuable for remote and hybrid teams that don’t get many opportunities to connect face-to-face. Even a short overnight trip can do wonders for building the kind of trust that’s hard to replicate over a screen.

6. Ask your employees what they want

I already recommended issuing a morale survey, but now I’m suggesting you go a step further and ask what would actually improve their morale. In other words, ask them what office morale boosters would make them happy.

It’s always a good idea to check in with your employees and see what type of events they’d like to participate in. This validates their opinions and makes them more likely to engage in activities since they get to do what they’re genuinely interested in.

7. Prioritize corporate social responsibility

This is one I’m especially passionate about. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is one of the most powerful, and most overlooked, employee morale boosters out there.

When your team gets the chance to give back together, whether it’s building bikes for kids in need, packing meals for a food bank, or supporting a clean water initiative, something shifts. People feel proud of where they work. They connect with their colleagues on a deeper level. And that pride and connection carry right back into the office.

The data backs it up: Gallup’s 2025 State of the Global Workplace report found that global employee engagement has dropped to just 21%, meaning the vast majority of the workforce is disengaged and looking for something more meaningful. And according to Benevity’s 2025 State of Corporate Purpose study, 94% of companies agree that volunteerism is a key driver of business resilience, with volunteering participation growing roughly 11% year over year.

CSR fills that gap. It gives employees a shared sense of purpose that goes beyond the bottom line. At TeamBonding, we offer a range of charitable team building programs that combine giving back with genuine team connection, from our Charity Bike Build to Cooking for a Cause.

If you’re looking for ways to boost morale at work that also make a real difference in your community, CSR is the answer.

Have fun while you boost morale at work!

Remember, the single most important thing about how to build morale at work is to make work fun.

If you don’t put the effort into making work an enjoyable place to be, your employees will get bored and eventually leave. Or worse, they’ll get bored, quiet quit, and waste valuable time.

If you create an inviting atmosphere and take care of your employees both personally and professionally, you’ll see great results. I’ve watched it happen thousands of times, and it never gets old.

Ready to give your office a morale boost? Contact us now for some great team bonding ideas!

Summer comes around once a year, and it doesn’t take much to turn that energy into something special for your team. After decades of designing events at TeamBonding, I’ve seen what happens when you give people a reason to step outside, let loose, and just enjoy being together. The results are almost always the same: more laughter, stronger connections, and a team that comes back to work feeling genuinely recharged.

So if you’re looking for summer work party ideas that go beyond a box of donuts in the break room, keep reading. I’ll share some of my all-time favorites, including a few newer events I’m especially excited about this season.

Why throwing a summer kick-off party is worth it

In the summer, most people want to be outside. After months of cold weather, they’re ready to move around, breathe fresh air, and feel like themselves again. I’ve always said that early summer is one of the best times of year to bring a team together: it’s the season when everybody’s hopeful. You’re coming out of that hibernation state, and people are just happiest to be outdoors.

There’s also something about summer that gives people permission to let loose. No one’s thinking about emails or deadlines when they’re running across a field or laughing their way through a team challenge.

Research backs this up, too. Getting outside improves mental abilities like thinking, reasoning, and problem-solving, while also reducing stress and anxiety. That’s not just good for your team’s wellbeing; it’s good for your business. Pair that with some employee burnout prevention, and you’ve got a compelling case for getting people off their screens and into the sun.

The best outdoor team building activities are the ones that bring out that childlike excitement in people, whether it’s racing around in a scavenger hunt, playing ridiculous games, or just being outside with good people. Here are my top picks.

Summer work party ideas your team will love

1. Fun field day

If it’s been way too long since your team got outside for a proper field day, this is your sign. You just can’t beat the combination of friendly competition, laughter, and soaking up the sun together.

One of my all-time favorite summer work party ideas has always been the Outrageous Games. It’s kind of a corporate Olympic-style event because it’s outdoors and can be held at almost any venue. People get a chance to be kids again: they get to do fun things they don’t normally give themselves permission to do.

The Outrageous Games event is an Olympics-themed field day activity packed with non-athletic fun for everyone. Your team competes head-to-head in ten wild and wacky events designed to build teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.

If you’d prefer a DIY approach, all you need is some outdoor space and a few supplies:

Water balloons and hula hoops for classic warm-weather fun

Tug-of-war ropes for some friendly rivalry

Sack race bags or pillowcases to channel your inner field day champion

Cones and soccer balls for a makeshift obstacle course

Consider offering a prize for the winning team, whether that’s a free lunch, a half-day, or something else entirely. A little extra motivation goes a long way.

2. GOALL!!: a World Cup summer kick-off party

With the 2026 World Cup happening right here in North America this summer, there’s no better time to bring that energy into your workplace. I love tapping into the excitement of what’s happening in the world around us, and right now, football is on everyone’s mind.

GOALL!! is a high-energy team building experience where participants collaborate to run their own football club. Teams kick things off by assigning roles, setting goals, and putting the right people in the right positions, just like a real championship squad. Then they bring their game plans to life through strategy, creative challenges, and fan-style chant-offs.

The energy builds all the way to the final whistle, where scores are tallied and a winning team is crowned. But the real victory, as I always say, is in the connections built along the way. It runs one to two hours and works for groups of 20 or more.

If you’re looking for a summer kick-off party idea that taps into a global moment while building real skills, this one is hard to beat.

3. Ultimate tailgate challenge

There’s something about a tailgate that brings out the best in people. The friendly trash talk, the competitive spirit, the sheer joy of throwing things at other things. The Ultimate Tailgate Challenge takes all of that and turns it into a structured, seriously fun team building event for groups of 25 to 400.

Teams rotate through classic tailgate games like cornhole, ladder ball, Kan Jam, and giant Jenga, competing for the highest scores. A professional DJ keeps the energy up throughout, and a lighthearted closing ceremony wraps everything up with awards and, if you want, prizes.

It plays best outdoors, which makes it a natural fit for a summer work party. And for what it’s worth, client reviews are consistently outstanding. This one is a crowd-pleaser in every sense.

4. Get outside and give back

If you’re looking for a great team summer party idea with a little more meaning behind it, consider combining your summer kickoff with a charitable activity. Almost any game can be set up as a competition where winnings go to a nonprofit of the winning team’s choice, or you can organize a group activity that builds something for a cause.

Some options worth exploring:

Paws for a Cause: Build supplies and care packages for animal shelters

Bike Build: Assemble bikes for kids in need

Healthcare Heroes Scavenger Hunt: A mission-driven scavenger hunt with a meaningful payoff

Operation Cancer Care: Assemble care packages for cancer patients

Giving back while spending time in the sun together can create a sense of fulfillment that a regular party just can’t match. It’s the kind of thing people talk about long after the event is over.

5. The Mystery Bus

This is one of those ideas that sounds a little wild the first time you hear it, and then you realize it’s brilliant. The Mystery Bus transports your team to three to four surprise destinations in and around your city. Nobody knows where they’re going until they get there.

The itinerary always includes at least one culinary adventure, one cultural experience, and one low-key physical activity. Our event team handles every detail: the planning, the logistics, the bus, the host who keeps things lively along the way with trivia and games. All you have to do is show up and enjoy the ride.

For a summer kick-off party, this is especially magical. There’s something about the open road and the unknown that creates instant camaraderie. People who normally wouldn’t talk much suddenly have something to bond over, and by the time the bus pulls back in, they feel like they’ve been on an adventure together. Because they have.

It runs for 5 to 6 hours and is designed for groups of 20 to 100.

6. Organize a scavenger hunt

Who doesn’t love a good scavenger hunt? It’s one of my favorite office party ideas for summer because it’s endlessly flexible and almost universally beloved.

Divide your team into pairs or small groups, hand out a series of clues, and set them loose. A local park makes a great backdrop. Agree on a two- to three-hour time limit and a central meeting spot to reconvene.
7. Celebrate a weird summer holiday

This one is a personal favorite because it’s so low-budget and high-return. There are more obscure summer holidays than most people realize, and building a party around one of them gives your team a built-in theme and a guaranteed conversation starter.

When was the last time your office celebrated National Ice Cream Day (July 16) or National Wine and Cheese Day (July 25)? Have your team vote on the most ridiculous holiday they can find, and then plan the event around it. The wackier the better.

This kind of team summer party idea gives everyone a chance to show off their quirkier, more creative sides, which don’t often get much airtime in a regular workday.

Ready to plan your summer work party?

These ideas are just the beginning. At TeamBonding, we’ve been designing corporate event ideas for teams of all sizes for decades, and summer is genuinely one of our favorite seasons to work in. The energy is contagious.

If your team isn’t able to get together in person, that doesn’t mean you’re out of options: a virtual summer office party can bring the same spirit to a remote team.

Whatever direction you go, I hope it gets people off their screens, out into the world, and genuinely glad they showed up. That’s always been the goal. Let’s chat, and we’ll help you make it happen.

Memorial Day means something a little different to everyone. For some, it’s the unofficial start of summer: cookouts, backyard games, and a long weekend with family. For others, it’s a solemn occasion to honor and remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to this country.

When it comes to things to do on Memorial Day at work, the best celebrations manage to hold both of those truths at once. In this guide, we’ve rounded up nine of our favorite Memorial Day work ideas—some meaningful, some just plain fun, and many that are both.

Why Memorial Day matters at work

Memorial Day isn’t just a day off. It’s an opportunity for leaders to bring their teams together around something bigger than the day-to-day grind.

Marking the holiday as a team, even in a small way, signals that your organization values more than productivity. It shows you care about community, history, and the people who made it possible for your employees to work freely.

That kind of culture matters. Employee engagement is directly tied to how connected people feel to their workplace, and shared experiences like a Memorial Day celebration are a simple, powerful way to strengthen those bonds.

It’s also a chance to model the kind of values-driven leadership that employees remember. Taking time to acknowledge a national day of mourning—even briefly nd imperfectly—says something about who you are as an organization.

A brief history of Memorial Day

“This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave.”—Elmer Davis

Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, was established by General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic. In his General Order No. 11, issued in 1868, he designated May 30th as a day for decorating the graves of soldiers who died defending their country.

The red poppy has been the American Legion’s official symbol of remembrance since 1920. That was inspired by the World War I poem “In Flanders Fields” by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, which describes poppies blooming over the graves of fallen soldiers in Belgium. Disabled veterans have assembled Buddy Poppies in VA hospitals since 1924, with proceeds supporting veteran rehabilitation and service programs.

Today, Memorial Day is a federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May, dedicated to honoring all U.S. military personnel who died in service to our country.

9 things to do on Memorial Day at work

Whether you’re planning a full team event or a simple gesture of remembrance, here are nine great ways to observe this holiday with your team.

1. Organize an outdoor team event

One of the most popular things to do on Memorial Day at work is to get everyone outside. The weather is typically beautiful, and an outdoor activity is a natural fit for the holiday’s spirit of togetherness.

Here are a few of our favorites:

Go Give: Charity Challenge—Teams complete GPS-guided challenges that positively impact their community, building camaraderie along the way.

Outrageous Games—A non-athletic, high-energy collection of games perfect for a company picnic or outdoor employee gathering.

Team Chili Cook-off—Teams start with chili basics and barter for extra ingredients by completing fun challenges. Competitive, creative, and delicious.

Cooking for a Cause

Cooking for a Cause is a culinary team building activity that’s built around preparing and enjoying a meal with the rest of your team. You’ll also help your community in a meaningful way by creating donations for a local food bank.

Team Chili Cook-off

This fiery team building favorite combines creativity, resourcefulness, and skill. In the Team Chili Cook-off, each group starts with chili basics like meat and tomatoes, but collecting other ingredients means bartering while completing fun challenges.

Outrageous Games

From the opening ceremony to the closing awards presentation, Outrageous Games is the perfect collection of non-athletic Memorial Day games for your company picnic or employee meeting. Competition has never been more fun!

2. Assemble care packages for active duty military

This is one of the most meaningful Memorial Day work activities you can organize, and it doubles as team building with real-world impact.

Our Operation Military Care program brings teams together to assemble care packages for deployed service members. It’s a hands-on, purposeful activity that your team will genuinely feel good about, and it connects the spirit of the holiday directly to the people it honors.

Consider pairing it with a brief team moment of reflection before you get started. Even just a few words from a leader about who Memorial Day is for and why it matters can make all the difference.

3. Cook a meal for your community

Food has a way of bringing people together, and Cooking for a Cause leans right into that. Teams prepare meals together and donate them to a local food bank, combining the best of culinary team building with genuine community service.

It’s a great option for teams that want a Memorial Day celebration with a service component—and one that keeps the focus on giving back.

4. Attend a local Memorial Day parade

Many cities and towns host Memorial Day parades, often followed by a memorial service at a local cemetery or monument. Encouraging your team to attend—either as a group or individually—is one of the simplest things to do on Memorial Day that still carries real weight.

Send a Memorial Day message to employees in advance, letting them know about local events, and invite anyone who served to share their perspective. It’s a low-lift gesture that means a lot.

5. Buy a poppy

In the days leading up to Memorial Day, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) members collect donations in exchange for red poppies. It takes less than a minute, but it’s a visible, meaningful act of remembrance.

Consider setting up a small donation station in the office or sharing information about where employees can participate. When paired with other Memorial Day work activities, it adds a layer of genuine tribute to the celebration.

6. Observe the National Moment of Remembrance

At 3:00 p.m. local time on Memorial Day, Congress asks all Americans to pause for one minute of silence in honor of fallen service members. The time was intentionally chosen to represent the hour when most Americans enjoy their freedom.

If your team is working or gathering that day, pause at 3:00 p.m. together. It costs nothing, takes one minute, and carries a lot of meaning.

7. Fly the flag and decorate with intention

Decorating with red, white, and blue is a classic way to mark the holiday—but there’s an opportunity here to go beyond streamers and tablecloths.

The tradition of flying the U.S. flag at half-staff from dawn until noon on Memorial Day is a longstanding act of respect for fallen soldiers. If your office or venue has a flagpole, consider observing this tradition. Then raise the flag to full-staff at noon—a gesture that honors both remembrance and the living.

8. Thank a veteran

Memorial Day is primarily about those we’ve lost, but it’s also a natural moment to acknowledge the veterans on your team or in your network. A sincere, personal word of thanks—from a manager, a team leader, or the whole group—goes a long way.

If your team wants to do more, Operation Gratitude offers a letter-writing program for soldiers currently deployed. It’s a meaningful activity that can be built into a Memorial Day corporate event or done individually.

9. Share stories and send a team letter

Invite employees to share what Memorial Day means to them—whether they have a personal connection to military service or just a memory tied to the holiday. Collect those reflections and share them internally as a team letter or newsletter piece.

You can even take it a step further by printing the submissions and delivering them to a local veterans’ living center, or emailing them to an organization that serves veterans in your area. It’s a simple, human way to build connection at work while honoring the day.

How to celebrate Memorial Day at work: Tips for leaders

Not sure where to start? Here’s a quick framework for how to celebrate Memorial Day at work in a way that feels genuine, not performative:

Send a Memorial Day message to employees ahead of the holiday—share what’s planned and, just as importantly, what the day means.

Mix the meaningful with the fun. There’s nothing wrong with a cookout or a round of Outrageous Games—the key is pairing it with at least one moment of genuine tribute.

Let your team lead. Ask whether anyone has a personal connection to the holiday and would like to share. You might be surprised by the stories in your own organization.

Keep it inclusive. Not everyone has a military connection, and that’s okay. Focus on gratitude and community rather than assuming shared experience.

Summer is the perfect season to step outside the office and invest in your people. A well-planned summer company outing does more than give everyone a break from their desks; it builds genuine connections, boosts morale, and reminds your team why they love showing up. Whether you’re planning something adventurous, laid-back, or purpose-driven, this list of summer outing ideas for employees has something for every type of team.

In this post, we’ll cover why summer outings matter, what makes them work, and a full range of staff outing ideas to help you plan an experience worth talking about.

Why are summer company outings important for team building?

A summer company outing isn’t just an excuse to swap spreadsheets for sunshine; it’s a chance to build genuine connections while practicing teamwork, strengthening bonds, and shaking off workplace stress. Whether it’s a competitive field day, a laid-back barbecue, or an outdoor adventure, summer outing ideas for employees create an environment where colleagues can connect naturally, away from the pressures of deadlines and conference calls.

The best corporate summer events go beyond forced icebreakers. When teams relax and engage in something genuinely enjoyable, communication improves, creativity sparks, and workplace relationships strengthen. According to the Achievers Workforce Institute, employees with a strong sense of belonging at work are 10 times more likely to recommend their company as a great place to work. A summer company outing is one of the most natural ways to build that sense of belonging—and a well-planned one makes returning to work feel less like a grind and more like returning to a team that genuinely clicks.

Benefits of hosting a staff outing in the summer

When employees develop meaningful relationships and feel connected to their colleagues, the impact on the workplace is real and measurable.

Building a cohesive team is a never-ending process, and it’s important to consistently make sure your team is working well together and reaching goals smoothly. Employees interact every day at work, but a summer outing can be a catalyst for a different kind of team chemistry; the kind that carries back into the office.

We all know the old saying about all work and no play, and it’s one worth taking seriously. Company summer outings are a perfect way to relax outside the office and reduce employee burnout. According to the 2025 Aflac WorkForces Report, nearly 72% of U.S. employees face moderate to very high stress at work—a six-year high. Once everyone gets a real break, they come back refreshed, re-energized, and ready to contribute.

Summer outings don’t just benefit the employee; they bring positive change to the business, too. In fact, companies with high employee engagement are 23% more profitable than those with low engagement, according to Gallup.

Here’s what a great staff outing delivers:

Breaks down barriers. Hierarchy and job roles can create workplace silos. A casual summer outing levels the playing field, allowing employees to connect with people outside their immediate circle.

Boosts morale and motivation. Taking a real break from work helps employees recharge, making them more engaged and motivated when they return.

Encourages teamwork. Whether it’s a competitive game, an outdoor adventure, or a creative challenge, a summer outing strengthens problem-solving and communication in a stress-free setting.

Celebrates achievements. A summer company outing is a meaningful way to recognize hard work and reinforce a culture of appreciation and recognition.

Outdoor summer outing ideas for employees

A corporate summer outing is more than a day outside; it’s an opportunity to build stronger teams, boost workplace positivity, and create lasting memories. Outdoor activities provide the perfect setting for employees to connect in relaxed, energizing environments. Choosing an activity that aligns with your team’s interests and energy levels is key.

If your team loves adventure, why not plan something exhilarating? Kayaking down a river, soaring through the treetops on a zip line, or tackling a ropes course builds trust and lifts everyone’s mood. Not everyone loves an adrenaline rush, and that’s okay. A picnic in the park with lawn games and music creates a laid-back atmosphere where coworkers can connect without the pressure of performance.

For teams who enjoy friendly competition, a beach day with sandcastle contests, relay races, or volleyball brings people together lightheartedly. If your team appreciates unique experiences, consider a farm-to-table dinner, an outdoor movie night under the stars, or a scenic group hike. The best summer outings leave everyone feeling recharged, connected, and ready to tackle new challenges together.

Here are a few of our favorite outdoor summer outing ideas:

Unique corporate summer event ideas

Summer outings don’t have to be predictable. Think outside the box when planning your next corporate summer event. A themed field day with wacky team challenges, obstacle courses, and quirky prizes can turn an ordinary afternoon into an experience people talk about for months.

For a mix of creativity and friendly competition, consider hosting a company cook-off or barbecue showdown where teams collaborate to create their best summer dishes. The best part? The feast that follows. If your workplace crew prefers a relaxed vibe, a rooftop happy hour with live music and craft cocktails is the perfect way to enjoy the season while forming casual, genuine connections. A summer company outing should give employees a much-deserved break from the mundane.

These programs are standout choices for teams looking for something beyond the usual:

Corporate Survivor. Inspired by the hit TV show, this high-energy outdoor program puts teams through a series of creative challenges and tribal competitions that test strategy, communication, and teamwork in the most entertaining way possible.

Amazing Race Scavenger Hunt. Teams race across a city completing challenges, solving clues, and navigating their way to the finish line. Fast-paced, immersive, and genuinely exhilarating.

The Great Watermelon Race. A newer favorite that’s equal parts silly and competitive; teams work together to transport watermelons through a series of creative relay-style challenges. It’s low-barrier, high-energy, and perfect for summer.

Indoor summer outing options for hot or rainy days

Sometimes the weather has other plans, but that doesn’t mean your summer outing has to be canceled. Indoor activities can be just as engaging and offer a refreshing change of pace. Axe throwing, bowling, or an arcade day brings out everyone’s competitive side without the heat. For teams who enjoy hands-on experiences, a cooking class, pottery workshop, or painting night gives employees time to bond while learning something new.

For teams who love a challenge, an indoor escape room is a fantastic way to encourage collaboration and quick thinking. If relaxation is the goal, a private trivia night or indoor miniature golf tournament creates a fun, low-pressure atmosphere. When it comes to summer outing ideas for employees, the setting matters far less than the quality of the experience itself.

Here are a few of our favorite indoor options:

City Build. Teams collaborate to design and build a miniature city, balancing creativity, strategy, and time management. Whether flawless or hilariously flawed, the final reveal is always a highlight.

Corporate Feud. A competitive trivia-style game built around survey-based answers that challenges teams with fun questions, buzzer rounds, and strategic category steals. Laughter and unexpected insights are guaranteed.

Team Teddy Rescue Bear. Teams compete in fun challenges to earn materials for crafting teddy bears and blankets, which are donated to children in need. It’s as memorable for participants as it is for the recipients.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-63940" src="https://www.teambonding.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/IMG_6774-300x225.jpg" alt="Three participants in the Team Teddy Rescue Bear team building activity are gathered around a table filled with teddy bear stuffing and various craft supplies.
The importance of summer outings to encourage team bonding

Work can be stressful, even when you love your job. While team meetings and office coffee breaks help build connections, nothing replaces the experience of spending real time together outside the office. A summer company outing allows employees to bond in a relaxed setting, free from deadlines and the everyday grind of in-office expectations.

A well-planned summer outing is more than a company perk; it’s an investment in team morale, communication, and collaboration. When teams spend time together outside the office, they interact more naturally, form stronger bonds, and build the kind of trust that makes a real difference back at their desks.

It’s also worth considering what happens when that investment isn’t made. Teams that rarely connect outside of work tend to communicate more cautiously, collaborate less freely, and disengage more quickly. Low connection is a quiet driver of turnover, presenteeism, and the kind of low-grade friction that slows teams down without anyone being able to name exactly why.

Not every summer outing has to be high-energy. While some teams flourish in outdoor competitions or adrenaline-fueled adventures, others may prefer a scenic picnic, a rooftop gathering, or a cultural experience in a new part of the city. The key is choosing something that resonates with your team’s personality and fosters natural, unforced engagement.

At its core, a great summer company outing strengthens your team’s foundation. When employees feel valued, connected, and part of something bigger, they collaborate better, innovate more, and contribute to a more positive workplace culture.

Incorporating communication, wellness, and fun into your summer outing

A corporate summer outing is a break from the office, but it’s also a chance to reinforce positivity, improve team dynamics, and create long-lasting memories. The best summer outings strike the right balance between relaxation, team building, and genuine engagement; ensuring employees feel refreshed and more in sync with their colleagues when they return.

Summer outings encourage communication and teamwork in ways that endless meetings and Slack messages simply can’t. Whether partnering up for an outdoor challenge, strategizing in a citywide scavenger hunt, or competing in a friendly beach volleyball match, people start talking, collaborating, and solving problems without the weight of workplace pressure. When the stress of deadlines is swapped for the excitement of shared adventure, barriers break down and genuine connections form.

A successful summer work idea should also consider wellness. Picture the team unwinding with a guided nature hike, trying a beachside yoga session, or enjoying a farm-to-table meal together. Kayaking, paddleboarding, and group cycling offer active, enjoyable ways to soak up summer sunshine away from screens.

And none of it works without fun. The best summer company outings feel like an experience, not an obligation. Adding unexpected, unique elements keeps things fresh and memorable for everyone.

Here are a few programs that nail the balance of all three:

Laughter Yoga. Combines deep breathing, playful exercises, and contagious laughter to boost energy, reduce stress, and strengthen team bonds. What begins as an awkward giggle quickly becomes genuine joy.

Cooking for a Cause. Teams prepare meals for those in need, combining culinary creativity with real community impact and meaningful collaboration.

The Charity Bike Build. Few things unite a team like building something for someone else. Teams assemble bikes donated to children who’ve never owned one; it’s one of our most emotionally powerful and universally loved summer outing experiences.

Without proper planning, even the best corporate summer outings can fall flat. A few things consistently make the difference between an event people enjoy and one they’ll actually remember:

Know your team: Start by considering your employees’ preferences and energy levels, then organize around what everyone would genuinely enjoy. A well-matched activity does more for morale than a spectacular one nobody feels comfortable at.

Communicate clearly and early: Set a schedule, share details in advance, and make participation easy. Nobody should show up unsure of what to expect; the more seamlessly an event is communicated, the more people arrive ready to engage.

Build in comfort: Summer heat is real. Shade, hydration, and accessible facilities ensure employees enjoy the event without uncomfortable distractions pulling their attention away from the experience.

Balance connection and relaxation: The best summer work ideas leave employees refreshed, not exhausted. The goal is genuine engagement, not a packed itinerary that feels like another workday in disguise.

Let the pros handle the logistics: Working with an experienced event partner means you can be present and enjoy the day, too—instead of troubleshooting from the sidelines. We handle the details so you can focus on your people.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in 15+ years of facilitating team building events, it’s that spring is when people are ready. Ready to get outside, ready to reconnect, and ready to shake off whatever winter left behind.

The first day of spring is March 20th—but honestly, the energy starts shifting even before that. Whether your team works in-person, remotely, or in a hybrid setup, spring team building activities are one of the best tools you have to boost morale, strengthen connections, and remind your people that they’re SO much more than their job titles.

This guide covers some of my favorite spring corporate events for 2026, from field days and cooking challenges to Earth Day giveback events and Cinco de Mayo celebrations. There’s something here for every team and every budget. Let’s get into it!

Spring team building activities your team will love

Spring is all about renewal and growth. It’s a perfect time to get excited about the sunshine as you jump into some spring team building activities. Keep reading to find a couple of options your employees will actually look forward to!

1. Have a field day

A field day is a fun and easy way to get out of the office, boost morale, and improve teamwork. This is a great spring theme idea for work to shake off winter’s sluggishness and celebrate the changing seasons together.

After all, who wants to sit inside looking out the window wishing they could be out enjoying the nice weather? It was no fun in class as a kid, and the same is true for adults at work.

Field day-inspired spring team building activities can be simple games paired with tasty refreshments—no strenuous physical activity required! Here are some great March team building activities to kick off the season:

Outrageous Games

Event type: In-person

Looking for a high-energy, fast-paced spring team building program? Outrageous Games fits the bill. It’s like field day meets super fun office Olympics—a perfect spring icebreaker, especially if you have some new team members.

Your group will compete head-to-head in ten wacky, wild, decidedly non-athletic relay races. The games are designed to build team strength while improving communication and problem-solving skills. All are suitable for a wide range of ages and athletic abilities.

Corporate Survivor

Event type: In-person

In true Survivor fashion, this spring team building activity is sure to get your group working, laughing, and learning together. They’ll enjoy all the drama and adrenaline rush of the show as they work to outwit, outplay, and outlast the competition.

Quickfire Soccer

Event type: In-person

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup happening right here in the United States this summer, there has never been a better time to channel some soccer energy into your spring events. Quickfire Soccer is a fast-paced, app-powered experience where teams complete creative, mental, and physical soccer-themed challenges to score points—no actual soccer skills required!

Each team starts with a tablet, soccer gear, and virtual currency, then races the clock to complete as many challenges as possible: trivia, logic puzzles, photo missions, mini team competitions, and more. The World Cup buzz alone will have people pumped before the event even starts. I love this one for spring because it taps into a moment that feels genuinely exciting for just about everyone right now.

2. Cooking challenges

If the weather is still chilly, a cooking challenge makes a great March team building activity. Consider having a cook-off to see who can prepare the most delicious dish, or even a simple potluck to get everyone together and say goodbye to the colder months.

You might tell everyone to break out their favorite warm weather recipes, or divide into teams and prepare identical recipes as a competition. Either way, the outcome will be delicious!

Team Chili Cook-Off

Event type: In-person

The Team Chili Cook-Off is a fiery spring team building favorite that combines creativity, resourcefulness, and skill. Teams divide into smaller groups, starting with chili basics, then complete fun challenges and barter to collect other ingredients to make their dish shine.

If you welcomed new employees at the beginning of the year, it’s a nice alternative to spring icebreaker questions, since it brings everyone together. Nothing brings people together like a cook-off—trust me on that one.

The Great Fruit Carve-Off

Event type: In-person

This one is SO much fun and honestly a little unexpected—which is exactly why teams love it. Teams receive fresh fruits and vegetables, carving tools, and a live demo from a professional carver before diving into their own creations. The results are wild, beautiful, and hilarious in equal measure.

It’s a perfect fit for spring: fresh produce, vibrant colors, and that “in bloom” energy of the season. The finished sculptures even double as edible centerpieces, making this a great add-on if you’re tying the event into a larger spring gathering or reception.

3. Celebrate “Take Your Child to Work Day”

Take Your Child to Work Day falls on Thursday, April 23rd this year. Whether your team is in-person, virtual, or hybrid, set aside some time to enjoy fun April office activities with the kids.

Kids will love the change of pace just as much as your team will. And I’ll be honest—some of my most memorable moments as a facilitator have involved watching kids light up when they realize what their parents actually do all day. So make sure you celebrate and show your employees that you care about their little ones.

Not sure what to do? Here’s one of our favorites:

Cookie Tales

Event type: Virtual

Cookie Tales is perfect for participants of all ages. Even if you don’t have kids, you’re still guaranteed to have a blast. Almost everyone loves decorating cookies, and this activity is the perfect way to get your group to collaborate and let loose. The only thing you’ll love more than creating these projects is eating them!

4. Celebrate Earth Day

April 22nd is Earth Day, and it falls on a Wednesday this year. What better way to get your team outside than by marking it together? You’ll get to make an impact and help the planet as a team.

Whether you volunteer to clean up litter or raise money for an eco-friendly cause, corporate social responsibility activities like this help improve collaboration, morale, and job satisfaction all at once. Here are a couple of my top picks:

Impact Online

Event type: Virtual

Impact Online lets your team compete through fun challenges and trivia while learning about the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. Everything culminates in a powerful finale in which team points are converted into donations to the B1G1 charity, a 501(c)(3) organization that supports the UN’s 17 Goals.

Compost Heroes

Event type: In-person

This one is brand new, and I am absolutely obsessed with it. Teams rotate through five hands-on challenge stations—Build, Create, Learn, Play, and Perform—each designed to spark creativity, eco-conscious thinking, and friendly competition. Participants assemble functional compost tumblers, stitch adorable plush Compost Hero characters, test their sustainability knowledge through trivia, and more.

Here’s what makes it extra special: every single item created—compost tumblers, educational signage, card games, and plush characters—is donated to a local youth camp, along with a membership to Green Camps, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit helping camps lead the way in sustainability. Helping the planet AND strengthening your team? At the same time? Yes, please.

5. Organize a scavenger hunt

If you’d like to celebrate the start of spring with a fun and engaging activity, a scavenger hunt is the way to go. It’ll bring your team together while they get to enjoy some outdoor time—one of the best fun spring ideas for the workplace.

Here are a few of our best high-tech team scavenger hunt programs:

6. Celebrate the Kentucky Derby as a team

7. Throw a Cinco de Mayo party

Cinco de Mayo is a perfect chance to keep the upbeat energy going all spring while celebrating Mexican culture. May 5th falls on a Tuesday this year, making it a great midweek pick-me-up.

Whether in-person or virtual, you have plenty of ways to make it unforgettable:

Team Mixology

Event type: In-person, virtual, or hybrid

Shake things up with a Team Mixology event led by a world-class mixologist! Your team will learn to craft classic cocktails or create their own signature drink. It’s a perfect spring team building activity for Cinco de Mayo—and a great spring icebreaker as you toast to teamwork and the beautiful weather on the horizon.

Salsa Showdown

Event type: In-person

Celebrate the warmer months by turning up the heat with the Salsa Showdown! Teams use fresh ingredients to craft amazing salsas and design their own brand identity—complete with custom aprons. High energy, hands-on, creative, and competitive. What better way to lean into some festive fun?

8. Give back as a team

Now more than ever, companies have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by giving back to the community. This spring, set aside a day for employee volunteering and do something that matters together.

One of the most memorable moments in my career was watching a group of kids run into a room to receive a charitable donation from a team that had spent the day fundraising for them. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house—including mine. The work we do with our clients has a lasting impact that goes SO much further than the two hours of an event.

Here are a couple of my favorites for spring:

Little Team Library

Event type: In-person

Build a spring-themed Little Free Library® and bring the joy of reading to communities in need. Teams assemble and decorate a Little Free Library® complete with a mounting post and bookmark box—a creative, impactful event that encourages teamwork, storytelling, and artistic expression.

The Do Good Bus

Event type: In-person

Hop on. Leave the rest to us.

This is one of my absolute all-time favorites. Your team boards a bus and heads to a mystery volunteer location—could be a community garden, a food bank, or an animal rescue. You don’t know until you get there, and that element of surprise makes the whole thing feel like an adventure from start to finish.

Everything is handled for you: planning, logistics, lunch, snacks, all of it. The bus holds 20–50 participants, and the experience is designed to inspire people to keep doing good long after the day wraps up. I’ve had clients tell me their teams still talk about their Do Good Bus experience years later. That’s the kind of staying power that makes this work so rewarding.

Ready to plan your spring team building activity?

As the snow melts and warmer days arrive, take this opportunity to show your employees you care. The people you work with are SO much more than their job titles—and spring team building is your chance to remind everyone of that.

Explore our full range of outdoor programs and let’s make this spring one your team actually remembers. Get in touch today—we handle everything so you can just show up and have a great time.

Bring Your Child to Work Day 2026 is on Thursday, April 23; it’s always the fourth Thursday of April. Whether you call it “Bring Your Kids to Work Day” or “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day,” the heart of the event stays the same. Kids get a front-row seat to the working world, and adults get to see their jobs through fresh eyes.

I love the shift that happens in an office during Bring Your Child to Work Day. The steady rhythm of meetings and emails gives way to laughter, wide eyes, and lots of curious questions. Even the conference room starts to feel less like a boardroom and more like a lab for creativity and discovery.

The tradition started in 1994 as Take Our Daughters to Work Day and has grown into a nationwide celebration that includes all children. More than 37 million people across the United States take part.

As someone who works with teams year-round, I see this day as more than a family-friendly perk. It’s a cultural moment. It reminds people that work is part of a bigger life story, not separate from it.

How to Prepare for “Take Your Child to Work Day 2026”

Preparation makes all the difference. I’ve seen the best take-your-child-to-work-day activities start with a simple plan and clear communication.

First, confirm what your company is doing.

Some organizations create a full agenda with scheduled activities for Take Your Child to Work Day. Others leave it up to individual departments. This is your chance to step up and help shape the experience, turning a loose idea into a well-structured day with a bit of coordination.

Next, set expectations with your child.

Explain what your role actually involves. If your work is mostly meetings and emails, think about how to translate that into something engaging. Worksheets, mini projects, shadowing moments, or a short brainstorming session can make the day feel hands-on instead of passive.

Then, coordinate with coworkers.

When multiple employees participate, collaboration helps everyone. You can rotate kids through departments, set up small group challenges, or create shared break areas. A team approach makes supervision easier and turns Bring Your Child To Work Day activities into something bigger than one desk and one job.

Prepare your workspace in advance.

If your child will spend time at your desk, have age-appropriate activities ready. Coloring pages, simple puzzles, or industry-related games work well. A little preparation prevents boredom and keeps the energy positive.

Finally, plan safety and logistics.

Plan for lunch, designate kid-friendly zones, and review office policies for visitors. You can borrow ideas from our guide to green team building lunches to keep food simple and organized. If your child isn’t quite ready for a structured environment, it’s okay to wait a year. Bring your kid to work day should feel exciting, not overwhelming.

When you plan with intention, Bring Your Child To Work Day 2026 becomes more than a date on the calendar. It becomes a shared experience that your team and their families will remember.

Make “Bring Your Child to Work Day” engaging and memorable

Once logistics are handled, the real fun begins. This day isn’t about kids sitting quietly at a desk; it’s about sparking curiosity and confidence.

Bring Your Child to Work Day is all about connection—between parent and child, between departments, and between what we do every day and why it matters.

Office tour and introductions

An office tour is one of the simplest and most effective activities. I always recommend starting with a guided walk through the workplace. Show kids how different teams operate and explain what each department does in plain language:

Marketing tells stories.

Finance tracks the numbers.

Operations keeps everything moving.

That really helps children understand how collaboration works.

Introduce them to coworkers, where a quick hello can turn into a great conversation. If you can, schedule a short Q&A with a few team members who enjoy sharing their career paths. Hearing how someone got from middle school to their current role makes the professional world feel more relatable.

Kids learn best by doing, so give them something tangible to work on. Younger children might sort materials, assemble simple packets, or organize supplies. Older kids can sit in on a brainstorming session, sketch out a logo idea, or shadow a team member for part of a project.

When children feel like contributors instead of spectators, they ask better questions and take more ownership. Then, they can walk away feeling proud of what they accomplished during Bring Your Child to Work Day 2026.

Kid-friendly break areas

Even the most enthusiastic child needs downtime. Set up a clearly defined space where kids can recharge with snacks and water.

You can include quiet games, coloring pages, or simple building activities. If you want to connect it back to workplace skills, include puzzles or STEM-focused challenges that encourage problem-solving and teamwork.

Mini career presentations

Short, informal presentations can turn Bring Your Kids to Work Day 2026 into a powerful learning opportunity.

Invite a few employees from different departments to share what they do in five to ten minutes. Keep it conversational and encourage questions. Let them talk about challenges, favorite projects, and what surprised them most about their career path.

To make it interactive, create a simple Career Bingo card featuring job titles, skills, or tools used around the office. As kids hear each one mentioned, they mark it off. It keeps them listening and adds a layer of friendly competition.

Combining tours, hands-on work, break areas, and mini presentations makes this event more than a novelty. It becomes a meaningful experience that leaves kids inspired, and teams reconnected to the bigger picture of why they work.

Best activities for “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day” in 2026

When I design Bring Your Child to Work Day experiences, I focus on three things: energy, purpose, and connection. The best Take Your Child to Work Day activities blend learning with laughter. They give kids something to do, not just something to watch.

We’ve been creating team building events for more than 35 years, and I’ve seen firsthand how the right activity can transform an ordinary office into a space filled with curiosity and pride. These nine Bring Your Child to Work Day activities are built to encourage creativity, teamwork, and real interaction between employees and their families.

Here’s how I’d bring them to life.

1. Chocolate Company Challenge

Chocolate is always a crowd-pleaser, but this experience goes far beyond dessert.

During this challenge, kids and adults work together on blind taste tests, creative branding exercises, and even structural engineering using chocolate. It’s playful, but it also reinforces communication and strategy. I love watching kids step into leadership roles while parents cheer them on.

2. Healthcare Heroes

If you want Bring Your Child to Work Day 2026 to include a give-back element, this is a strong choice.

Healthcare Heroes combines scavenger hunt challenges with real-world impact. Teams complete video tasks, trivia, and obstacle-style missions while assembling appreciation bags for healthcare workers. Kids move, think, and collaborate while learning about service and gratitude.

I’ve seen children walk away from this event proud that they made a difference, not just that they won a game.

3. Cookie Tales

Cookie Tales blends storytelling with hands-on creativity.

Kids design cookies that represent a story, a brand, or even their parent’s company values. As they decorate, they practice planning, collaboration, and presentation. It’s messy in the best possible way.

For Bring Your Kid to Work Day, this activity offers a perfect mix of imagination and teamwork. And yes, eating the final product is part of the experience.

4. In It To Win It

This is high energy from start to finish.

Teams compete in a series of fast, 60-second mini-games that require coordination and quick thinking. I’ve watched executives and kids alike get completely invested in stacking cups or balancing objects under pressure.

If your culture thrives on friendly competition, this is one of the most engaging Bring Your Child to Work Day activities you can offer.

5. Save the Bees

Save the Bees turns environmental education into an interactive game show.

Kids answer trivia questions, learn about pollination and sustainability, and even participate in a honey tasting with locally sourced varieties. It’s science made tangible and memorable.

For organizations that value sustainability, this is a meaningful way to align Bring Your Child to Work Day 2026 with your company’s mission.

6. Paws For A Cause

This program centers on compassion and collaboration.

Families work together to assemble care packages for animal shelters. As they organize food, toys, and supplies, they practice communication and time management. Kids see how teamwork creates real-world results.

I’ve found that philanthropic Bring Your Child to Work Day activities leave a lasting impression because children understand they’ve helped someone beyond the office.

This challenge combines puzzles with purpose.

Participants solve clues and complete tasks to assemble teddy bears for children facing emergencies. The experience introduces concepts like resource management and creative problem-solving in a way that feels adventurous.

It’s powerful to watch kids realize that something they built might comfort another child during a difficult moment.

9. Virtual Museum Scavenger Hunt

Not every organization gathers in one physical space, and that’s okay.

This remote-friendly experience lets children explore museums virtually while solving riddles and completing team challenges. It blends culture, history, and collaboration in a format that works for distributed teams.

For hybrid or remote companies planning for Bring Your Child to Work Day in 2026, this option ensures no one feels left out.

St. Patrick’s Day is one of those holidays that naturally brings people together. There’s color, humor, friendly competition, and just enough silliness to help teams relax. If your team is remote, you can still tap into that energy. I’ve facilitated enough virtual events to know that St. Patrick’s Day works especially well online when you give people a reason to interact beyond a Zoom hello.

I’d like to share some practical, easy-to-run virtual St. Patrick’s Day games and activities that actually help teams connect. Whether you’re planning something quick or building a whole event, these ideas are great for remote teams that want to have fun without it feeling forced.

What makes St. Patrick’s Day virtual games work for remote teams?

St. Patrick’s Day virtual games work because they lower the bar for participation. The theme is familiar and the expectations are light. People don’t feel like they have to prepare or perform.

When I run virtual St. Patrick’s Day games, I see more cameras turn on and more voices join in. The holiday gives teams permission to be playful, which is often what remote teams need most.

How do you kick off a virtual St. Patrick’s Day celebration?

The best virtual celebrations start with something visual and welcoming. I always recommend setting the tone before the activity begins.

A few simple ways to kick things off:

Encourage a St. Patrick’s Day Teams background so everyone shows up in the same festive space.

Ask people to wear green or bring one themed item to the screen.

Open with a quick icebreaker question related to the holiday.

This small effort makes the event feel intentional instead of tacked on. Here are some backgrounds to get you started:

Shamrock

Festive St Patty’s Dog

Green Beer

Irish Hat

What are the easiest virtual St. Patrick’s Day games to run?

If you’re short on time, simple games work best. You don’t need complex rules or long instructions for remote St Paddy’s Day activities to become a hit.

Some of my go-to St. Patrick’s Day virtual work games include:

Corporate Quiz Bowl that revolves around Irish trivia with pop culture, history, and silly bonus questions.

Irish-themed cookie decorating

Race Around the World with a stop in Dublin

These games are easy to explain, easy to join, and easy to enjoy.

How can you turn trivia into a full team experience?

Trivia is one of the most reliable virtual St. Patrick’s Day games, but it shines when you add structure. Instead of firing off questions, break people into small teams.

I like to use breakout rooms for collaboration, then bring everyone back together to review the answers. This creates natural conversations and shared decision-making, where bonding happens.

If you don’t want to run this yourself, facilitated virtual trivia takes the pressure off while keeping energy high.

Can food or drink be part of a virtual celebration?

Yes, and it doesn’t have to be complicated. Virtual food experiences work when they’re optional and inclusive.

A few ideas I’ve seen work well:

Share a simple Irish-inspired recipe ahead of time.

Host a mocktail or cocktail happy hour that people can follow along with.

Run a show-and-tell where people share a favorite snack.

These moments add warmth without making anyone feel left out.

Taking it up a notch with guided mixology

For teams looking to add something special, a professionally led mixology session can turn happy hour into an interactive experience. Spirit guides can walk your group through craft cocktail making in real-time, so everyone learns techniques while mixing together.

For St. Patrick’s Day specifically, here are some popular options:

Many teams pair mixology with St. Patrick’s Day Almost Anything Goes Trivia for a well-rounded event—start with drinks, then test your knowledge. It creates natural conversation and keeps energy high throughout the session.

How do games support real team building goals?

Fun is the hook, but connection is the outcome. The best St. Patrick’s Day virtual games encourage communication, quick thinking, and collaboration.

When teams laugh together, they relax. When they solve problems together, trust builds. That’s why holiday-themed virtual events often have a bigger impact than expected.

Should you keep it short or plan a longer event?

Both approaches work. The key is matching the format to your team’s energy.

Short events are great for:

Distributed teams across time zones.

Teams with meeting fatigue.

Quick morale boosts.

Longer events work well when:

You want deeper interaction.

You’re celebrating a milestone.

You’re onboarding or reconnecting teams.

I love taking our flexible virtual events and scaling them up or down based on team needs.

What if your team also wants an in-person option?

What if part of your team is in the office?

I see this a lot right now. Some people are remote while others are back in the office. St. Patrick’s Day can be a moment when those worlds overlap and bring everyone together.

If your team is hybrid, you don’t have to choose one experience and ignore the other. I’ve seen teams run a virtual game that remote employees join live, while in-office folks gather around a screen and play together. The shared activity matters more than the format.

How do you wrap up a virtual St. Patrick’s Day event?

End on a high note. I always recommend closing with a quick reflection, a winner announcement, or a screenshot of a group photo.

These moments help the experience feel complete and give people something to remember.

Ready to plan virtual St. Patrick’s Day games your team will actually enjoy?

If you want virtual St. Patrick’s Day games that are easy to run and genuinely engaging, we’ve got you covered. When I facilitate virtual events, my job is to make participation feel easy and natural. If you want help running virtual St. Patrick’s Day games that don’t feel awkward or forced, we can build something that fits your team.

Explore our virtual events and let’s create a St. Patrick’s Day experience your team will tip their green hats to!

When people ask me for fun St. Patrick’s Day work activities that actually bring a team together, I always tell them this holiday is a perfect excuse to loosen up a little. St. Patrick’s Day has a built-in sense of play, which makes it easy for teams to connect, laugh, and break out of the usual routine.

I’ve facilitated a lot of themed events over the years, and this one is always a hit. As March 17th gets closer, your team is already thinking about celebrations, green outfits, and anything that adds a bit of lighthearted energy to the workday. Leaning into that excitement is a simple way to build engagement and spark genuine interaction.

Whether you’re in the office or working remotely, there are plenty of St. Patrick’s Day ideas for work that can make the day memorable. In this guide, I’m sharing office St. Patrick’s Day ideas, along with a few creative twists you can use to make your office celebration feel fresh. Let’s jump in and start planning something fun.

Why St. Patrick’s Day work activities make such a difference

After more than 21 years of leading team building events, I’ve seen how St. Patrick’s Day work activities can completely change a team’s mood. There’s something about this holiday that gives people permission to relax a little. The moment a group steps into a themed activity, the energy lifts and people start connecting in ways they don’t always get to during a normal workday.

St. Patrick’s Day team building activities work so well because they invite people to communicate, play, and take small risks together. That improv-style openness is something I’ve always loved. When a team gets even a little silly, you can watch barriers drop. Creativity shows up. Problem-solving gets more collaborative. And instead of forcing engagement, the group finds its rhythm naturally.

I also appreciate how St. Patrick’s Day ideas for work create space for teams to step away from their routines. A quick change of pace can bring down stress levels and help people reset. I’ve seen that moment of relief on so many faces—when someone realizes they’re having fun at work and it’s actually allowed. Those moments go a long way in preventing burnout.

And honestly, these activities do a beautiful job of highlighting the variety of personalities in the room. When the environment is lighthearted, people show up more authentically. That’s when trust grows, communication opens up, and teams start forming memories that matter. It’s amazing how much good can come from a simple celebration.

St. Patrick’s Day work ideas for every kind of team

St. Patrick’s Day is one of those holidays that practically invites people to loosen up. I’ve used it as a theme for team building events for years because it’s such an easy way to lift spirits and spark connection. When the day is all about celebration, feasting, dancing, and good humor, people settle into the experience quickly. And depending on what you choose, these St. Patrick’s Day work activities can also build real workplace skills.

Whether you’re working in person, remote, or somewhere in between, you’ve got plenty of great options. Here are a few of my favorite St. Patrick’s Day office games and activities that always bring out laughter, teamwork, and just the right amount of friendly competition.

FYI: if you’re looking to celebrate your virtual teams, check out our remote St. Patrick’s Day team building activities!

1. Irish trivia

I love a good trivia competition, especially when it celebrates a cultural holiday like St. Patrick’s Day. Trivia has this magic ability to get people talking, thinking, and laughing together. You can run it before a meeting, build it into a team lunch, host it after work, or let it anchor a full-day celebration.

Irish trivia is a perfect way to test your team’s knowledge of culture, history, and fun traditions. And if someone on your team has Irish roots, invite them to help plan the questions. People always appreciate the personal touch.

Some of my favorite game show-style formats work beautifully here. Spin to Win, which plays like a lighthearted Wheel of Fortune experience, and Almost Anything Goes, our customizable trivia game, both make fantastic St. Patrick’s Day virtual games. They’re easy to scale for any team size and give everyone a chance to show off a festive St. Patrick’s Day team background on Zoom, like the Shamrock and Festive St Patty’s Dog.

2. Pub crawl (for luck)

You can celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at work with or without beer, but let’s be honest: beer is a classic part of the tradition. If your team enjoys a good happy hour, a Pub Crawl is a fun, high-energy choice.

Our Pub Crawl Scaventure has become a favorite for teams who want a more active St. Patrick’s Day idea for work. It turns your city into a playful adventure filled with trivia, challenges, and the kind of spirited competition that gets everyone involved. You don’t need to drink to participate, but the social atmosphere definitely adds to the experience.

This is a great St. Patrick’s Day office scavenger hunt. I love seeing those improv-style moments—people saying yes, jumping in, and celebrating one another’s wins. And at the end, the team gets to unwind together at a local pub, which is a great way to wrap up any St. Patrick’s Day activities for adults.

3. Race around the world: A stop in Dublin

While we can’t ship your whole team to Ireland, I can get you surprisingly close. Our Race Around the World event lets teams travel virtually, and we always make sure to include a stop in Dublin when St. Patrick’s Day rolls around.

It’s one of the best St. Patrick’s Day virtual games you can run because it blends teamwork with exploration. Your group will take on travel-themed challenges, rack up points, and race to the finish line. The win is fun, but the funniest part is always watching people get into character. The theatre kid in me appreciates that more than anyone.

You can personalize the experience with fun prizes or rewards. Digital downloads, like a St. Patrick’s Day computer background, always go over well. Craft beer from a local brewery is another great option when you want to bring the theme to life in a more hands-on way.

Here are two more free backgrounds your team can use during the event:

Green Beer

Irish Hat

4. St. Patrick’s Day fashion show

Wearing green on St. Patrick’s Day is supposed to bring good luck, so why not take it a step further and turn it into a full-on fashion show? This is one of those St. Patrick’s Day work activities that feels simple but creates a ton of laughter and connection.

Encourage your team to pull out their brightest green shirts, ties, beads, or whatever festive accessories they’ve got tucked away. Remote employees can snap photos or jump on Zoom to show off their looks, which makes this an easy addition to any set of St. Patrick’s Day ideas for work.

If you want to make things extra fun, choose a theme. I’ve seen everything from “Best Dressed Leprechaun” to “Most Creative Shamrock Spirit.” Themes get people leaning into that improv mindset I love, and the energy stays high all day. This one works well paired with other St. Patrick’s Day office games or activities since it keeps the celebration going in the background.

5. St. Patrick’s Day cookie decorating

If you’re looking for a food-focused St. Patrick’s Day activity for work—especially for virtual teams—our virtual cookie decorating challenge is a fan favorite. Every participant gets a decorating kit mailed right to their door, and one of our facilitators guides the group through the whole experience. It’s structured but relaxed, which hits the sweet spot for remote engagement.

Here’s the twist: your team tells a story across a set of six cookies. And if someone’s cookie takes a dramatic turn, they can always eat the evidence. As someone who has spent two decades watching teams loosen up and find their creative side, I love how quickly this activity brings out personality.

If you want to elevate the celebration, pair the decorating session with a virtual happy hour and mixology class. Working with an award-winning mixologist gives the whole experience a polished, fun feel. Teams learn new cocktail skills, share a few laughs, and settle into the St. Patrick’s Day spirit without needing to be in the same room.

Start planning your St. Patrick’s Day celebration at work!

Bringing everyone together with St. Patrick’s Day work activities shows your team that connection, play, and shared experiences matter just as much as the work itself. These celebrations add energy to the day and give people a chance to interact in ways that don’t always fit into their regular routines. That boost in St. Patrick’s Day employee engagement can reshape how a team supports one another long after the holiday is over.

Whether it’s trivia, a fashion show, cookie decorating, or happy hour, every activity adds a fresh spark to the workplace. St. Patrick’s Day activities for work help people laugh, collaborate, and build trust—key ingredients for any healthy team culture. When you give people space to enjoy themselves, the results speak for themselves.

Administrative Professionals Day 2026 falls on Wednesday, April 22nd. Working as an Executive and Marketing Assistant here at TeamBonding, I see firsthand how much administrative professionals, secretaries, and support staff do to keep a workplace moving. This day is a chance to pause and say thank you for all the invisible work that keeps everything running smoothly.

Whether your plan is to celebrate National Admin Day with a thoughtful gift, a fun team activity, a development opportunity, or simply a well-earned break, starting early makes the whole week feel more meaningful. And if you’re marking the full Administrative Professionals Week, a little preparation goes a long way.

Admin professionals notice when you notice them. This guide will help you get ready to show your appreciation to the people who make your workday easier without ever asking for the spotlight.

About Administrative Professionals Day

Administrative Professionals Day honors the essential roles of secretaries, administrative assistants, receptionists, and all administrative support professionals. It’s recognized in several countries and often goes by other names, such as Administrative Assistant Day, Secretary Day, or Admin Professionals Day.

I like to think of admin professionals as the quiet backbone of an organization. They troubleshoot before problems even hit your radar, keep communication flowing, and support everyone around them. Even a simple “Happy Administrative Professionals Day!” can remind them that their contributions matter. Sometimes recognition really is that easy.

When is Administrative Professionals Day 2026?

If you’re planning ahead for Administrative Professionals Day 2026, it falls on Wednesday, April 22nd. The holiday is always observed on the Wednesday of the last full week in April, which means Administrative Professionals Week runs from April 20th through April 24th this year.

This annual celebration has a long history. It began in 1952 as National Secretaries Day, originally observed in early June. In 1955, the date moved to the last full week of April. The name shifted to Professional Secretaries Week in 1981 and later became Administrative Professionals Week in 2000 to reflect the wide range of modern administrative roles.

Why you should celebrate Administrative Professionals Day 2026

Administrative Professionals Day 2026 is more than a date on the calendar. It’s a genuine opportunity to recognize the people who keep your organization running, often behind the scenes. Over the years, this day has grown into one of the most widely celebrated workplace appreciation holidays in the United States.

Many companies use Administrative Professionals Week ideas like flowers, gift cards, team lunches, or a bit of extra time off. Others focus on corporate training opportunities or experiences that bring people together. I’ve noticed more leaders leaning toward experiences over traditional gifts—reflecting how much employees value connection and meaningful recognition.

In recent years, more teams have also started planning small events or activities during Administrative Professionals Week to highlight the essential work their assistants and support staff do every day. These celebrations don’t have to be elaborate. What matters is taking a moment to acknowledge the impact these roles have on your workplace and the people who rely on them.

5 ideas to celebrate Administrative Professionals Day 2025

If you’re brainstorming ways to show your administrative team how much you appreciate them this year, consider giving them an experience rather than a traditional gift box. A thoughtful moment or meaningful upgrade often goes further than something that ends up on a shelf. Here are a few ideas I love for celebrating Administrative Professionals Day 2026.

1. Invest in software that makes their work easier

One of the most meaningful ways to recognize someone’s role is to invest in tools that support what they do every day. When your administrative professionals have access to software that makes their work faster, more efficient, or simply less stressful, it communicates that their contribution truly matters. And trust me—people notice when leadership actively removes roadblocks for them.

Before purchasing anything, ask what they actually need. Most administrative teams have two or three tools they’ve had their eye on for a while, and upgrading those can make a perfect Administrative Professionals Day gift.

If you’re supporting a marketing team, for example, look into tools that improve data visibility or automate repetitive tasks. For accounting or operations teams, new training or software updates can make a huge difference. And if your focus is on project management, tools like Trello or Asana can streamline communication and workflows for the whole team.

2. Arrange a fun team building experience

One of my favorite ways to celebrate Administrative Professionals Day 2026 is by giving teams a chance to have some fun together. When people get to laugh, relax, and connect outside their usual routines, it naturally strengthens company culture and boosts productivity. Team building activities make it easy for everyone to step away from their inbox for a bit and enjoy National Admin Day in a meaningful way.

Providing time for team bonding is a thoughtful way to show appreciation and create a culture where teamwork feels natural. Whether your team is virtual, in-person, or a mix of both, there are plenty of great experiences to choose from. Scheduling a friendly competition or an icebreaker activity gives your administrative professionals—and everyone else—a well-deserved break and a chance to reconnect.

Over the years, I’ve seen certain experiences become consistent favorites. Here are a few that always stand out:

Corporate Survivor

Inspired by the Survivor TV show, Corporate Survivor brings out a fun mix of strategy, teamwork, and friendly rivalry. Watching a group work together, joke with each other, and embrace the challenge is incredibly rewarding.

To mix things up, I love encouraging teams to shuffle participants so people get to collaborate with colleagues they don’t normally work with. Spring weather also makes this a great outdoor option if you want something energizing and memorable.

High-Tech Scavenger Hunts

Scavenger hunts are always a hit for Administrative Professionals Day, and after seeing them in action so many times, I understand why. They’re fast-paced, customizable, and full of surprises. You can tailor the challenges to your company culture, your city, your time frame—whatever works best for your group. With so many high-tech formats available, it’s easy to build an experience that keeps everyone engaged from start to finish.

The Mystery Bus

The Mystery Bus is a staff favorite around here. It’s a custom team building adventure where your group hops on a bus without knowing the destination. Each stop is a unique, unexpected experience chosen just for your team. There’s something magical about watching people get excited as they realize they’re truly along for the ride. It creates lasting memories and brings out a sense of curiosity and connection you don’t always see in a typical workday.

3. Gift your team learning & training opportunities

One of the most meaningful ways to celebrate Administrative Professionals Day 2026 is by giving your team access to learning opportunities that help them grow. Professional development programs led by experienced trainers can energize your organization in a way that lasts far beyond the holiday itself. I’ve seen firsthand how much impact these sessions can have, especially when they’re tailored to a team’s specific needs.

Our development programs blend learning with hands-on activities that keep people engaged. For example, Breaking Barriers is a powerful way for administrative professionals to build new skills while having fun at the same time. When you give your team the chance to develop both personally and professionally, you’re offering benefits like:

Offering more value to the organization

Opportunity for career advancement

Increasing confidence

Improving job satisfaction

And if your team is spread across different locations or works remotely, that’s no longer a barrier. Virtual programs—like our Virtual Resiliency Training workshop—make it easy to celebrate National Admin Day while giving everyone the chance to learn something new, no matter where they’re joining from.

4. Support causes that are important to them

Another thoughtful way to celebrate Administrative Professionals Day 2026 is by giving back together as a team. When employees see their company supporting causes that matter to them personally, it builds trust, strengthens culture, and boosts morale in a meaningful way. As someone who really values charitable initiatives, I always love seeing teams rally around something bigger than themselves.

If you want to say “happy Administrative Professionals Day” in a more personal way, consider letting each administrative professional choose a cause they care about and make a donation in their honor. It’s a small gesture that often lands with a lot more meaning than a traditional gift.

For something more hands-on, you can plan a charitable team building event. Harvard Business Review has highlighted how team volunteering increases engagement, productivity, and retention—and I’ve seen it firsthand. Here are a few of our favorite charitable experiences that make a powerful impact:

Clean Water Connection

Providing clean water to communities without access creates ripple effects far beyond the immediate health benefits. With Clean Water Connection, your team assembles water filters that improve sanitation, save families hours of time each day, and support better education and work outcomes. It’s a powerful way to connect with your colleagues while helping a global community gain access to something essential.

Wheels Around the World

In Wheels Around the World, teams sponsor a wheelchair, complete a series of meaningful activities, and then personalize a wheel safety cover for its recipient. Along the way, participants learn about the realities of living with a disability and make a direct, life-changing impact on someone who needs mobility support. It’s an eye-opening and rewarding way to spend National Admin Day.

Little Team Library

This program lets your group give the gift of literacy through a creative, hands-on project. Teams assemble Little Free Library kits, decorate them, and collaborate to write and illustrate a children’s book that becomes part of the finished library. You’ll walk away having built something permanent for a local neighborhood—and the experience of creating it together is always unforgettable.

5. Sending gifts and kits

Everyone loves a thoughtful surprise now and then, and sending a gift is an easy way to show your administrative team how much you appreciate their dedication. Whether you’re celebrating Administrative Professionals Day 2026 with something practical, relaxing, or just plain fun, a well-chosen gift can make the day feel special.

Self-care items

Supporting your team’s well-being is always a win. Self-care gifts—like essential oils, spa kits, cozy blankets, or wellness-themed bundles—help administrative professionals unwind and recharge. If you want to elevate the gesture, pair a spa or massage gift certificate with a little extra time off so they can fully enjoy the experience.

Customized office supplies

Personalized stationery, customized notepads, or a beautifully crafted pen make thoughtful and practical gifts. These are the items people use every day, and adding a personal touch shows that you took the time to choose something just for them.

Experience gifts

Administrative Professionals Day gift ideas don’t have to be mundane. Experience-based gifts create memories and offer a refreshing break from the usual routine. Cooking classes, wine tastings, or event tickets can turn the day into something truly memorable. A couple of favorites we recommend include:

Chocolate Tasting

Happy Hour & Mixology Class

Want to celebrate Administrative Professionals Week?

If you’re planning to celebrate Administrative Professionals Week, one of the easiest ways to make it special is to choose a different experience or gesture for each day. For the official Administrative Professionals Day on April 22nd, 2026, you might even give your administrative professionals a midweek day off.

If you want to make it extra thoughtful, give them the choice—some might prefer taking Wednesday off, while others may want to roll it into a long weekend.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-66178" src="https://www.teambonding.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Team-Mixology-1-300x177.jpeg" alt="Team members proudly posing with their cocktail creations during a mixology class.
Here’s an example celebration schedule for a 5-day workweek using the ideas from this article:

Monday: Start the week with purpose by participating in the Clean Water Connection program.

I’ve been creating team building events for decades, and I can tell you this: the right corporate event ideas can completely transform the way a team feels about work—and about each other. I’ve seen a simple scavenger hunt spark friendships that lasted for years, and a charity bike build bring out leadership skills in people who didn’t even realize they had them.

Sure, you could throw another office pizza party and call it a day. But when you plan intentional, engaging corporate event activities, you’re doing more than just filling time. You’re creating shared moments, building trust, and giving your team something to laugh about long after the event is over. That’s the magic I’ve been chasing my whole career, and it’s why I’m excited to share some of my favorite corporate event ideas with you.

In this guide, we’ll explore everything you need to know about corporate events—from planning successful events to choosing the right activities, venues, and formats for your team. Whether you’re planning a small office gathering or a large-scale corporate retreat, you’ll find actionable insights that work.

What are corporate events?

Corporate events are organized gatherings designed to bring employees together for purposes beyond daily work tasks. They range from team building activities and training sessions to celebrations, retreats, and conferences. The goal is to strengthen relationships, improve communication, boost morale, and create shared experiences that enhance workplace culture.

The best corporate events are more than just a break from work—they’re strategic investments in your team’s cohesion, engagement, and performance. When done right, these activities boost morale, enhance communication, and develop qualities that last long after the event ends.

Effective corporate events today are immersive, meaningful, and completely customizable to your goals. Whether it’s solving challenges together, giving back through charitable programs, or collaborating in a creative workshop, the right activity engages people in ways that truly matter.

Why corporate events matter

The best corporate events can have a big impact on your business and team. You can improve upon key areas like cohesion, productivity, creativity, teamwork, engagement, morale, well-being, and more.

Corporate events drive real business results:

Build stronger relationships: Teams that connect personally work better together

Improve communication: Shared experiences create common ground and understanding

Boost morale: Recognition and fun increase job satisfaction

Increase retention: Employees stay where they feel connected and valued

Develop skills: Activities teach collaboration, problem-solving, leadership

Strengthen culture: Events reinforce values and create shared identity

Break down silos: Cross-department events build organizational connectivity

Team outings can be incredibly fun, but they are also a great way to boost your team’s spirit, build relationships, improve communication, collaboration, creativity, and productivity. They are a valuable resource for business.

The best corporate events for your team

When people ask me about the best corporate events, I always say it depends on your goals and your people. Do you want to get your team outside in the sunshine? Give back to your community? Solve a mystery together? Maybe even shake up happy hour with something creative? There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, but that’s what makes it exciting.

Here are some of the most popular corporate team building event ideas I’ve seen bring teams closer together.

Outdoor corporate event ideas

Some of the most fun corporate event ideas I’ve ever facilitated happen outside. There’s something about fresh air, sunshine, and a little competition that unlocks the playful side of people.

Scavenger hunts: From our Amazing Race–style hunts to fast-paced Mad Dash hunts, these events turn any city or park into an adventure zone. Your team races against the clock, solving clues, and working together. I’ve watched CEOs and interns high-five over finding hidden clues in the wild.

Summer office Olympics: A classic for a reason. Teams compete in lighthearted challenges that build camaraderie while fueling a little friendly rivalry.

Outrageous Games: Giant inflatables, relay races, and throwback challenges that bring out the inner kid in everyone. This one always ends with laughter—and usually some great photos.

These company event activities aren’t just fun; they’re energy-boosters that help employees come back to work refreshed and connected.

Charity corporate events

One of the most powerful things a team can do together is give back. These corporate fun event ideas let you strengthen team bonds while making a real difference in the community.

Clean Water Connection: Teams build water filters that provide communities with clean drinking water for years. It’s hands-on, meaningful, and unforgettable.

Charity Bike Build: Teams work together to assemble bikes for kids in need. I’ve seen full rooms light up when the kids come in to ride away on their brand-new bikes.

Mission ImPAWssible: Teams build custom pet wheelchairs for disabled animals. Nothing bonds a group like helping a pup walk for the first time.

As one of our facilitators, Dustin Reichert, puts it: “The events with charity components are my favorites. Especially when the charity is able to come to the event and present in person. It really makes a strong point and impacts the participants for the better.”

That’s the kind of impact that sticks long after the event is over.

Mystery and problem-solving events

If your team thrives on puzzles, suspense, and problem-solving, mystery events are some of the most interactive corporate event ideas out there.

The Mystery Bus: Imagine hopping on a bus with your colleagues, not knowing where you’re headed next. Each stop brings a new challenge and a new clue. It’s part field trip, part mystery, and always memorable.

Murder Mystery Dinners: A timeless option that combines food, fun, and sleuthing. Teams work together to crack the case and sometimes with surprisingly convincing “actors” from within your own staff.

Beat the Box: Teams must unlock a series of puzzles before time runs out, relying on communication and collaboration to solve the mystery.

These company event ideas are perfect for building trust while testing your team’s ability to think under pressure.

Culinary events

Food has a way of bringing people together like nothing else. These corporate event activities mix creativity with delicious outcomes.

Food Truck Challenge: Teams design and pitch their own food truck concept, complete with branding, menu, and taste test. It’s part culinary show, part Shark Tank.

Team Mixology: Shake up happy hour by letting employees craft their own signature cocktails. Add a little competition, and you’ve got a recipe for laughter.

Chocolate Challenge: Yes, it’s as good as it sounds. Teams dive into chocolate-making while learning about teamwork and precision.

I’ll admit it: these are some of my personal favorites. Because who doesn’t love combining bonding with a great meal or drink?

Virtual corporate event ideas

Remote and hybrid teams don’t have to miss out. In fact, some of our most fun corporate event ideas take place entirely online.

Virtual Casino Night: Live dealers, real games, and big laughs all from the comfort of home. Teams can choose from blackjack, roulette, poker, and more.

At the Races: Teams bet on simulated horse races in a fast-paced, hybrid-friendly event that’s equal parts fun and competitive.

Virtual Escape Rooms: Teams solve puzzles together in a digital world, building the same collaboration skills they’d use in person.

These corporate events ideas prove you don’t need to be in the same room to feel connected.

Well-being corporate event ideas

Not every event needs to be high-energy. Some of the best corporate events focus on reflection, wellness, and breaking down barriers.

Employee Wellness Programs: Yoga, meditation, and international food tastings all fall under this category. Teams slow down, recharge, and focus on mental health.

Breaking Barriers: Participants identify obstacles in their personal or professional lives and literally break them through a physical board-breaking activity led by facilitators.

Dustin Reichert, Event Facilitator, shared a memorable moment from a recent Breaking Barriers program:

“There was a newer, younger participant who had been with the team for less than a month. Her peers encouraged her to go first, but she struggled initially. I had her sit back and observe while I gently pointed out areas for improvement. Later, when it was her turn again, she went up fifth from last and broke the barrier on her first try. The room erupted with cheers, support, and high-fives.

To make the moment even more powerful, another participant recovering from surgery couldn’t participate, so I suggested they choose someone close to them to break it on their behalf. Though he wasn’t particularly close to the newbie, he chose her—and she broke it on her first try again. The room exploded with excitement once more. It was an incredible experience. Just so powerful!”

Tech-driven and interactive corporate events

Technology has changed the way we connect, and it’s opened the door to some of the most interactive corporate event ideas I’ve ever seen. These events mix innovation with engagement, giving teams something fresh and modern to dive into.

High-Tech Scavenger Hunts: Imagine your team racing through a city with tablets, completing augmented reality challenges and capturing hilarious photos along the way. It’s a blend of old-school adventure and new-school tech.

In It to Win It: Inspired by the TV game show, this event is packed with fast-paced challenges that get everyone laughing while testing their agility and problem-solving skills.

Nexus Speed Networking: This one is all about connection. Using an interactive platform, teams rotate through conversations and mini-challenges that help them get to know each other better. It’s especially powerful for larger organizations where not everyone crosses paths daily.

The beauty of these events is how they break people out of their routines. When employees see their colleagues tackling quirky challenges or laughing over a tech-fueled game, walls come down and real connections form.

Seasonal and holiday corporate event ideas

One thing I’ve learned is that timing matters. Seasonal events are a perfect way to give your team something to look forward to throughout the year. These company event ideas tie into natural rhythms of the calendar, making them memorable and festive.

Summer Picnics with a Twist: Think beyond burgers and volleyball. Add in team competitions, scavenger hunts, or outdoor wellness activities.

Winter Charity Drives: Pair your holiday party with a giving component, like assembling care packages or donating toys. It keeps the festive spirit while reinforcing your company’s values.

Halloween Mystery Nights: Murder mysteries or escape room–style games are a natural fit for spooky season, and they bring just the right balance of fun and challenge.

Seasonal events become traditions, and traditions are what people remember. Long after the event is over, employees will reminisce about the “year we all did haunted house escape room” or “the holiday party where we built bikes for kids.” Those traditions help anchor company culture.

Leadership and development event ideas

Corporate retreats and events don’t just have to be about fun. They can also be about growth. Some of the best corporate events are designed to develop leadership, communication, and collaboration skills in a low-pressure, experiential way.

Leadership Stories: Team members share personal stories about leadership moments in their lives. These stories spark conversation, vulnerability, and growth.

iBuild: Teams receive parts of a larger structure and must collaborate across groups to complete it. It’s a brilliant metaphor for cross-departmental collaboration.

Employee Wellness Workshops: Think mindfulness, resilience training, or stress management exercises. These are all activities that equip employees with tools they’ll use well beyond the event.

The great thing about these events is that employees often don’t realize how much they’ve learned until afterward. They walk away not just entertained, but equipped.

Measuring the impact of corporate events

Now, here’s something HR professionals and business leaders always ask me: “How do I know if an event was successful?”

The answer lies in both energy and outcomes.

Energy: Did people leave the event smiling, buzzing, and talking about it the next day? That emotional lift is a clear sign you’ve created something meaningful.

Outcomes: Did you see improved collaboration on projects afterward? Were there fewer silos, or more ideas being shared across departments? That’s where the return on investment comes in.

One practical tip: build in short reflections at the end of your events. Ask participants to share one insight, one thing they learned about a colleague, or one way they’ll bring the experience back to work. These small moments of reflection turn an afternoon of fun into long-term growth.

How to organize a successful corporate event

A successful corporate team building event requires thoughtful planning and attention to several key factors:

Define your objectives

Before you start planning, be clear about what you want to achieve. Are you building trust? Improving communication? Celebrating success? Developing leadership skills? Your goals will guide every other decision.

Consider your team

Think about your team’s preferences, physical abilities, interests, and comfort levels. The best events are inclusive and accessible to everyone. Consider factors like:

Team size and composition

Physical abilities and limitations

Interests and preferences

Dietary restrictions for food events

Remote vs. in-person vs. hybrid setup

You want your event to be an inclusive and memorable experience. It’s one of the most challenging aspects of putting together a corporate event, and it’s something you should prioritize.

Set your budget

Your budget can have a big impact on how you plan your event. If you have a huge budget, you might rent a conference hall or plan a corporate retreat. If you have a lower budget, you might use your office space and host the event yourself. There are many different options at various price points, so budget will play a role in your choice.

Choose the right venue

Conference venues matter more than you might think. The right space can enhance your event, while the wrong one can create obstacles. Consider:

Capacity and layout

Location and accessibility

Amenities and technology

Indoor vs. outdoor options

Parking and transportation

You can also pick your own venue, and many events can be hosted at your office or workplace. TeamBonding offers a complimentary venue sourcing service to help find the perfect location for your event.

Plan logistics

Successful events require attention to detail. Use a team building checklist to ensure you don’t miss critical elements:

Date and time selection

Invitations and RSVPs

Materials and equipment

Facilitators or hosts

Backup plans for weather or issues

And if all of those team building tips seem difficult or time-consuming, you can always hire an event specialist like TeamBonding.
