This week’s tune is a song about being grateful for simply being alive even when our situations in life become complex.
A Song About Being Grateful
Bee Gees were a music group consisting of brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. They formed the group in 1958 and in the late 1960s became the prominent disco group of the era. The “disco kings” are the third most sold successful group in Billboard charts history after The Beatles and The Supremes. Their hit single “Stayin’ Alive” is from the Saturday Night Fever movie soundtrack. The song literally references the struggle of trying to stay alive in the rough streets of New York City. They reference multiple times how surviving each day is a victory in itself. Although we may not all be trying to survive the cities of NYC this song is very relevant to our current situation and living through a pandemic. Even if things don’t pan out as we had imagined, sometimes it is important to be grateful for simply being alive.
“…You know it’s alright, it’s okay. I’ll live to see another day”
Lyrics
I’m a woman’s man, no time to talk
Music loud and women warm, I’ve been kicked around
Since I was born
And now it’s alright, it’s okay
And you may look the other way
We can try to understand
The New York Times’ effect on man
You’re stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive
Feel the city breakin’ and everybody shakin’
And we’re stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin’ alive
And if I can’t get either, I really try
Got the wings of Heaven on my shoes
I’m a dancin’ man and I just can’t lose
You know it’s alright, it’s okay
I’ll live to see another day
We can try to understand
The New York Times’ effect on man
You’re stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive
Feel the city breakin’ and everybody shakin’
And we’re stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin’ alive (ohh)
Somebody help me, yeah
Life goin’ nowhere, somebody help me, yeah
I’m stayin’ alive
I’m a woman’s man, no time to talk
Music loud and women warm
I’ve been kicked around since I was born
And now it’s all right, it’s okay
And you may look the other way
We can try to understand
The New York Times’ effect on man
You’re stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive
Feel the city breakin’ and everybody shakin’
And we’re stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin’ alive
Somebody help me, yeah
Life goin’ nowhere, somebody help me, yeah
I’m stayin’ alive
Somebody help me, yeah (ah, ah, ah)
Life goin’ nowhere, somebody help me, yeah
I’m stayin’ alive
Somebody help me, yeah (ah, ah, ah, ay)
Life goin’ nowhere, somebody help me, yeah
I’m stayin’ alive
Somebody help me, yeah (ohh)
Life goin’ nowhere, somebody help me, yeah
I’m stayin’ alive
