Insider’s Guide: Best Team Building Events Milwaukee Has To Offer
If you want to set up some exciting, memorable team building events, Milwaukee is the perfect spot to make it happen.
I’ve spent 13 years facilitating team building events in Milwaukee, and while I call Minnesota home, this city has become something of a second home for me. I just love Milwaukee’s unique blend of Midwestern warmth and big-city excitement!
This combination creates an atmosphere where people—and teams—naturally bond.
Milwaukee will deliver every single time. Whether you’re looking for team building activities for your local crew or visiting for the first time during a conference, team building events in Milwaukee are sure to fit the bill.
In this guide, I’ll discuss why Milwaukee is one of my favorite destinations for team building events, Milwaukee restaurants that you don’t want to miss, and the group activities that will shine the brightest in this city.
What Makes Milwaukee Special for Team Building?
From the beautiful natural views to the vibrant downtown center, Milwaukee is a city unlike any other.
It sits pretty on Lake Michigan’s western shore, and it has this coastal vibe that surprises most first-timers. This is just the start of the list, though—here’s my full list of the main things that set Milwaukee apart:
- Lake Michigan Accessibility: Here, teams can enjoy waterfront activities and a coastal town experience almost all year long
- Historic Third Ward: This creative hub is perfect for scavenger hunts, walking tours, and more
- Brewing Capital Legacy: Milwaukee has a rich brewing culture—Miller, Pabst, Schlitz, and Blatz all called this city home
- Harley-Davidson Heritage: The iconic motorcycle company was founded here in 1903 and is headquartered here to this day
- Walkable Design: The compact downtown layout and friendly culture make it highly walkable, perfect for tours or casually strolling between activities
Beyond what I’ve listed above, this city is also affordable with authentic charm, which means it can easily accommodate any size team or budget!
My Top 3 Milwaukee Team Building Experiences
After hundreds of events here, I’ve found some of the best group activities Milwaukee has to offer.
Here are my top picks for events that I’ve consistently seen create the strongest team bonds with the most enthusiastic feedback from participants.
1. Build-A-Boat
Nothing beats the excitement of building boats and testing them on actual water with our Build-A-Boat team building event! Milwaukee’s lakefront location makes this program and the city’s coastal culture shine bright.
Team members will:
- Receive materials to construct their vessels
- Compete in challenges to get extra tools (and an edge on the competition)
- Design a team flag
- Set sail from the shoreline for the ultimate test—the race
It’s true magic to watch colleagues cheer each other on as their homemade boats either sail or sink. This is the sort of thing that creates unforgettable memories every time.
Lake Michigan provides a stunning backdrop as teams test their problem-solving abilities and race against the clock. By the end, everyone pitches in as teams try to build the winning vessel.
I’ve seriously seen executive teams become best friends during this activity. There’s just something about shared triumph (or shared unintentional swim) that instantly breaks down barriers!
2. Museum Scavenger Hunt
Harley-Davidson was founded in Milwaukee in 1903 and continues to maintain its headquarters here. The Harley-Davidson Museum is one of the city’s most-visited attractions to this day, and it’s the perfect spot for our Museum Scavenger Hunt!
The museum spans two floors and sits on over 20 acres of park-like land, and I’ve found it to be the best location for this experience, hands down (with the Disney World Aquarium a close second). Here’s more about why I love it:
- The scavenger hunt combines learning with friendly competition
- The museum appeals to motorcycle enthusiasts and newcomers alike
- It’s a climate-controlled environment, so it works year-round
- It presents a professional setting that impresses clients and executives
Your team will split into groups and explore motorcycle history while solving puzzles and completing challenges. They’ll also get to check out the interactive exhibits and learn more about this iconic brand!
Plus, the museum’s downtown location means easy access to post-event dining and celebrations.
3. Pub Crawl Scavenger Hunt
I have a bit of a soft spot for scavenger hunts, and Milwaukee’s brewing heritage makes it my favorite place for our Pub Crawl Scavenger Hunt!
Your team members will explore the Historic Third Ward and downtown Milwaukee (or anywhere in the city you’d like), visiting iconic locations, completing team challenges, and having fun with trivia.
The route is custom-designed for your team by a TeamBonding facilitator, but they’ll typically be navigating between locations like these in Milwaukee’s walkable downtown:
- Historic brewery locations
- Riverfront gathering spots
- Third Ward entertainment district
- Local landmarks and hidden gems
The pub crawl showcases Milwaukee’s personality while the scavenger hunt builds bonds and stronger teamwork skills. It’s a perfect combination!
Best Team Building Events Milwaukee Has To Offer: Seasonal Guide
This city fully experiences all four seasons, which means you can plan return visits that feel completely different each time.
That said, you’ll want to consider the seasons when you’re planning team building events. Milwaukee has pretty agreeable weather compared to some other cities, but it can change in an instant, and it always pays to prepare.
Spring (March-May)
Spring in Milwaukee means mild temperatures and blooming parks. It’s perfect for:
- Scavenger hunts and pub crawls through the Third Ward
- Lakefront team challenges without the summer crowds
- Walking tours and city exploration in downtown Milwaukee
This city comes alive in spring, and your team members are going to feed off that energy!
Summer (June-August)
Summer is peak season for the team building events Milwaukee has to offer. The warm weather is perfect for:
- Lakefront challenges and water activities
- Outdoor Olympics in scenic downtown parks
- Festival-themed activities (Milwaukee loves its summer festivals) and music-focused events
Milwaukee summers are simply incredible—trust me, your team will want to spend every free moment outside!
Fall (September-November)
In the fall, Milwaukee shines with gorgeous colors and football season excitement. It’s great for:
- Harvest-themed team challenges
- Indoor museum activities as temperatures drop
- Brewery tours during peak brewing season
It’s amazing to see the city’s energy shift to cozy gatherings and warm spaces, making it ideal for intimate team bonding.
Winter (December-February)
Don’t let the stories about Wisconsin winters scare you away—Milwaukee’s cold months are when its indoor venues shine brightest. Winter is best for:
- Challenges and larger group activities in climate-controlled indoor venues
- Holiday-themed activities to spread cheer
- Team building events that embrace the cold (ice sculpting tops my list)
Some of my most successful events have happened during the winter months—the season’s emphasis on compassion helps teams truly focus on each other.
Where To Eat After the Event
Sometimes, the best part about a team building event is the after-party. It’s when your team gets to sit down and talk to each other about everything they just experienced, and that’s where memories are formed!
Here are some of my favorite spots in Milwaukee for good food and group dinners:
- Sugar Maple: Great spot for casual group dinners. It has a spacious layout and supports local brewers and distillers, so it has some of the best beers, spirits, and kombuchas in the country.
- Best Place at the Historic Pabst Brewery: It’s a mouthful, but this is more of a destination than a restaurant—it’s the former corporate headquarters of the Pabst Brewing Company and home to tons of great public taverns and pubs.
- Classic Slice: This spot is great for fun, casual group dinners. It serves oversized, super-satisfying pizzas that are literally made for sharing.
Okay, I’ll stop at three before I get carried away. I could write an entire article about the best spots to eat in Milwaukee, but that’s been done, and it’s not what you came here for!
The bottom line is this: I highly suggest picking somewhere in this amazing city to grab a bite after your team building event. Pick a place that everyone’s excited about, make a reservation ahead of time for good seating, and enjoy!
Planning Team Building Events? Milwaukee Insider Tips
I’ve learned a lot during my 13 years of experience in this city. I’ve seen what works and what doesn’t, and discovered the essentials for successful events.
Here are my top tips for getting the most out of the corporate events Milwaukee has to offer:
- Map Your Day: Downtown Milwaukee is walkable, but distances between locations can be surprising—map out your activities carefully or pick a turnkey event like the Mystery Bus and let us handle planning for you.
- Embrace the Local Culture: Include elements of Milwaukee culture like the RiverWalk, its brewing heritage, and the lakefront setting to connect to this city’s unique and friendly local atmosphere.
- Create Photo Opportunities: Pictures create memories, so make time for them! Lake Michigan and the historic architecture in the Third Ward always make for stunning backdrops, but don’t forget some action shots to capture the energy.
- Plan for Weather: It’s always (always!) a good idea to have indoor backup plans ready—Milwaukee weather can change quickly! I also suggest embracing seasonal themes and using the weather as a team building element.
If I’m being honest, these are ultimately a lot of the same tips I’d give for successful corporate events in most cities. It all comes down to careful planning.
