If you’re looking for some fun team building activities in OKC, you’re in for a real treat.
I’ve called Oklahoma home for years, and as TeamBonding’s Event Experience Manager, it’s amazing to see how OKC never fails to create unforgettable team experiences.
I’m not kidding—I really believe that OKC is one of the best hidden gems in the country. This city is always moving and growing, and there’s truly no other place that’s quite like it.
In this guide, I’ll share my inside view on what makes Oklahoma City so special, the best group activities OKC has to offer, and my favorite spots around for good food, drinks, and vibes.
Why Is Oklahoma City So Perfect for Team Building Activities?
Oklahoma City is a place where people work hard and play hard. It’s also home to an infectious competitive spirit, which is why I light up when clients ask me about team building events here.
With the OKC Thunder games energizing the local sports scene, there’s this vibe of a hardworking community just buzzing with determination and life.
This energy translates beautifully into corporate events—teams really tend to tap into that spirit of resilience, and that always makes competitive games and team challenges super engaging.
OKC’s Rich History: A City of Innovation
I know what you’re thinking—okay, Laura, you work for TeamBonding, of course you’re going to say this city is great for teams! I’m not exaggerating about the spirit of innovation and growth here, though. The proof is in the history books!
People say OKC was built in a day during the Land Run of 1889, and while that’s not literally true, it’s pretty darn close. Nearly 10,000 people flooded into the area on April 22, 1889, and by nightfall, a tent city had formed.
Within days, they had streets mapped out, businesses starting up, and a provisional government taking shape. That pioneer spirit of quick thinking, adaptability, and community building still runs through everything we do here.
OKC has a unique blend of:
- Western heritage: OKC has rugged roots and a cowboy spirit that you can see everywhere you look.
- Modern innovation: The businesses here drive growth with creativity, innovation, and cutting-edge industry.
- Genuine hospitality: Oklahoma City has a warm and welcoming culture where everyone feels like a friend.
All of this comes together to create a city that’s both forward-thinking and timeless. Whether you’re a local crew or your team is coming in from out of town, it’s such a fantastic vibe to experience.
My OKC Experience
I’m not just someone who’s writing about OKC—this city is part of who I am! I grew up right next door in Tulsa and attended school in Edmond, so I’ve watched Oklahoma City transform over the years.
Especially during the last decade, I’ve watched in awe as the downtown area took on new life as incredible venues turned it into a dream destination for corporate team building events.
But enough about me and my love for this city; you came here for the best team building activities OKC has to offer, so let’s get to it!
Top Team Building Activities in OKC
Teams thrive on the competitive energy, innovative spirit, and creative vibe here in OKC. It’s pretty hard to go wrong with a team building event here since the recipe for success calls for good locations, amazing people, and careful planning.
That said, I’d like to highlight a few options that stand out as guaranteed winners—these ones always seem to wow teams here in OKC.
1. Breaking News AI Collaboration Event
One of my favorite team building activities in OKC is our Breaking News AI Collaboration Event, especially when we incorporate Oklahoma City’s unique character into the experience.
Let the fun begin
After an introduction to AI collaboration tools, team members will embark on specific training for their chosen AI applications.
Each team then applies this knowledge, creative thinking, and problem-solving skills to create a fictitious “breaking news” broadcast. These broadcasts can focus on everything from celebrating OKC Thunder victories to tornado season preparations.
Why it’s perfect for OKC
Since the National Weather Center, a hub for storm prediction and meteorological research, is next door in Norman, it’s perfect for OKC’s storm chaser culture. After all, severe storms are an unavoidable part of living in the heart of tornado alley!
Funny enough, there’s also a “storm chaser” angle you can take if your team is focusing on the OKC Thunder angle, too. In this context, the storm chasers are sort of like super fans who follow the team around and get involved with other Thunder supporters.
Either way, OKC offers some great ways to spin these broadcasts for a regional focus.
Team creativity shines
Regardless of your angle, the stories can take humorous spins on local office culture, like “Tornado Drill Chaos: When the Weather Alert System Goes Haywire” or “Thunder Game Day Productivity Plunge: How OKC Offices Empty During Playoffs.”
After the fictitious broadcasts hit the “airwaves,” teams get to share their work, swap insights on the AI collaboration tools they used, and reflect on challenges and successes.
The event wraps with a high-energy debrief, celebrating AI for team success while inspiring participants to embrace teamwork AI in their daily work.
Keep the fun going after the event
If you want to keep the energy up, consider hopping on the Mystery Bus after the event! It’s a custom-tailored experience that’ll take your team around to the coolest destinations in OKC.
If I were planning one of these events, I’d include some of these:
- Riversport Adventure Park to do something active
- Botanical Gardens to check out some beautiful nature
- Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum to get a sense of OKC’s hard-working spirit
2. Museum Scavenger Hunt
Our Museum Scavenger Hunt is another one of my all-time favorites here in OKC. This city has some incredible venues that are perfect for an interactive team building experience.
My number one pick would be the Oklahoma City Zoo & Botanical Garden, which is one of the country’s top zoos, featuring immersive exhibits and conservation programs.
Cue adventure, mystery, and fun
This museum team building activity blends culture, teamwork, and interactive fun in an exciting scavenger hunt.
Your team will divide into smaller groups, and each one will receive a map they’ll use to navigate the venue, uncover clues, and solve brain-teasing challenges.
Why it’s perfect for OKC
For this activity, you can choose any museum, art gallery, aquarium, or zoo, and OKC has some pretty great options! Here are some of your other choices if you don’t go for the Oklahoma City Zoo & Botanical Garden:
- National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum
- Oklahoma City Museum of Art
- Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum
- Skeletons: Museum of Osteology
- Oklahoma History Center
Collaboration for the win
Regardless of your venue, the TeamBonding crew will write and run a unique, interactive hunt on-site for your team. It’ll be full of intrigue and friendly competition
Before you know it, your team members will be working together to solve a series of challenging brain teasers with plenty of twists and turns along the way.
3. Pub Crawl Scavenger Hunt
If you love scavenger hunts as much as I do, our Pub Crawl is another event you don’t want to miss out on! It’s a great option for teams looking to check out some of the adult things to do in OKC—it’ll showcase our vibrant nightlife scene like no other activity can.
This isn’t just another bar crawl, either. It’s a tailored scavenger hunt and team building experience that’ll let colleagues explore the city’s unique pubs while tackling interactive challenges and trivia together.
Why it’s perfect for OKC
Downtown Oklahoma City has transformed dramatically over the years, and taking a tour of the bar scene with our Pub Crawl is one of the coolest OKC activities for adults I can think of.
If it were up to me, I’d probably center this around the Bricktown entertainment district—it’s hands-down my favorite area for team building activities. Oklahoma City is packed with cool spots, but Bricktown is where it’s at for entertainment and dining.
My itinerary would probably include stops like:
- Coyote Ugly Saloon
- Whiskey Chicks
- Bar Cicchetti
- JJ’s Pub/Alley
- Tipsy Tiki
We could also plan a pub crawl using the Bricktown Water Taxi to get around this already walkable area!
Raising team spirit
The entire Pub Crawl experience is tailored to your team’s vibe, making it the perfect event to create memories, boost morale, and foster team spirit. It’d be a great way to get to know downtown OKC together.
If you go with Bricktown, you’ll also have plenty of neat photo ops to take the memories home with you! After the pub crawl, consider heading to a local restaurant to wrap things up, get another bite to eat, and reflect on the experience.
Planning Team Building Activities? OKC Quick Tips
Planning is a huge part of team building events, so I wanted to share some OKC-specific tips to make sure your event goes off without a hitch:
- Consider the Seasons: Spring and fall are the best times to be outdoors in OKC—it’s when the city shines! Visit Scissortail Park during these months if you can. During other seasons, I’d suggest indoor events to account for heat and unpredictable weather.
- Grab a Bite Together: Getting food before or after an event lets your team talk and bond. My favorite spots are Pops 66, Bill & Ruth’s, The Garage, and Ron’s Hamburgers & Chill. And don’t forget Sonic—it got its start here in Oklahoma!
- Have Backup Plans: Any time you do an outdoor event, it’s a good idea to have an indoor backup plan, just in case the weather acts up. This is extra important in the winter or summer, but OKC can have odd weather any time of the year.
