What makes a team successful?

“We must all hang together, or assuredly, we shall all hang separately.” – Benjamin Franklin

Team building quotes can inspire any team to work harder. This week’s quote comes from a time when the Founding Fathers of the United State of America were working together to draft the laws of the land.

Benjamin Franklin was an expert in many different ways. He is noted as being an author, printer, theorists, politician, postmaster, scientist and diplomat. Franklin was a major player in the American Enlightenment and contributed to the discovery of electricity. He invented the lightning rod, bifocals, the Franklin stove, a carriage odometer, and the glass ‘armonica. Franklin is also known for running a successful newspaper in Philadelphia and for publishing the Poor Richard’s Almanack. He also knew a thing or two about what makes a team successful.

The signing of the Declaration of Independence is one of Franklin’s most important accomplishments. Although he was ill at the time that many of the Founding Fathers met to discuss the document, Franklin made important changes to the draft that allowed his visions to be heard. This week’s quote comes from a discussion he had with John Hancock referring to the Fathers working together.

Franklin was also a great businessman and author. His almanac, written under the pseudonym Richard Saunders, continues to be quoted today. “A penny saved is a penny earned” and “Fish and visitors stink in three days” are two quotations that are still noteworthy in today’s world.

Benjamin Franklin is one of the most influential Founding Fathers because of his drive to succeed and his many achievements. He was very active in his community and facilitated many civic organizations in society. He ran many associations, but it was positive attitudes and collaboration that allowed all of his endeavors to be successful.
