Feature Friday | Laughter is an Instant Vacation

To start off, and to make a point, I’m going to share a joke that I found…

Bill Gates and the president of General Motors have met for lunch, and Bill is going on and on about computer technology.

“If automotive technology had kept pace with computer technology over the past few decades, you would now be driving a V-32 instead of a V-8, and it would have a top speed of 10,000 miles per hour,” says Gates. “Or, you could have an economy car that weighs 30 pounds and gets a thousand miles to a gallon of gas. In either case, the sticker price of a new car would be less than $50. Why haven’t you guys kept up?”

The president of GM smiles and says, “Because the federal government won’t let us build cars that crash four times a day.”

Did that make you laugh? Be honest, now. We’re all friends here.

The average adult laughs 17 times each day. Find this hard to believe? Well, if you’re thinking this is too much laughter, the fact that a 3 year-old will laugh an average of 300 times per day will ground you. Embrace your inner child and laugh more, silly!

Too busy for a little laughter?

“I believe that if people can get more laughter in their lives, they are a lot better off,” says Steve Wilson, MA, CSP, a psychologist and laugh therapist. “They might be healthier too.”

Read that? HEALTHIER – and that’s coming from the doc.

“We change physiologically when we laugh. We stretch muscles throughout our face and body, our pulse and blood pressure go up, and we breathe faster, sending more oxygen to our tissues.”

Laughter is energizing, invigorating. Think about how you feel after a good laugh. Laughter is literally the best medicine – the best medicine for a sour mood, a cloudy day, or a long day in the office.

Laughter can do wonders in the workplace. Not only will it increase the overall energy and motivation of an office, but it can improve office morale and coworker relations. Is your office in need of a little laughter and improvement? Why not consider a little team building, maybe a little TEAM-PROV-ment?

TeamProv is one of TeamBonding’s popular comedy programs. In this lively and unique approach to team building, we use improvisational theater games to get your team laughing and learning together.  It’s the ultimate chance to learn by doing, explore choices and outcomes, practice for real life in a safe and fun environment, take risks in a fictional world, and succeed (and fail) confidently (while laughing).

What have you and your coworkers tried to spark energy in the office? Any tricks (or jokes) you’d like to share?
