In this series of articles we take five minutes to chat with a member of the TeamBonding team so you can get an idea of the sort of people we are. In this first installment we talk to Michael, one of our top facilitators, about team building, tree climbing and double cheeseburgers…
How long have you been here?
I have been with TeamBonding over seven years.
What got you started as a facilitator?
A fellow actor introduced me to TeamBonding and it has been a pleasure working with them ever since. I truly enjoy this job. It is very much like live theater where every event is different even though it is the same program. Each client we work for brings their own personality to the programs which makes the job so much fun.
What has been your most memorable experience at TeamBonding?
The first bike build I lead. I was so busy taking care of the details that I didn’t think about what the reaction would be when the kids came in to receive their bikes. When I introduced the kids and could see the tears in the groups eyes when they saw the kids come in I realized how impactful this program is. It was (and still is) an awesome sight when you see people realize that they have made a positive impact in a child’s life. That is my favorite time in the program. After facilitating over 70 bike builds my heart is still touched at that moment. I am so lucky to be part of the team that creates that!
What do you do with your spare time?
I am and actor and a stand up comedian. So it is facilitating for TeamBonding during the day and performing at night. I am also on the board of City Lights Theater.
What is your favorite place in the world to be:
Wherever the weather is warm!
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Enjoy the moment. Everything works out, I promise.
The most annoying thing in the world according to you is:
People who hurt others on purpose. Life is short and everyone deserves to have fun in life!
Do you have any phobias?
Not being prepared! My worst nightmare is the one where you are in school and find out you have a test and you have no idea what the answers are. It works in my favor because it gives me drive to pay attention to all the details in everything I do.
What can’t you live without?
I know it may sound old fashioned, but it is someone I can’t live without. That would be my wife Dianne. She is so supportive of me in all I do.
When was the last time you climbed a tree?
Years, I’m afraid of heights!
Describe yourself in three words:
Driven, caring and funny
Do you have a favourite food:
In and Out double cheese burgers! After doing an event, I look for the nearest In and Out Burger. It is my reward!
Something people may not know about you:
I have a serious side. Being a comedian and fun loving person people tend to think you are like that all the time.
The most important thing in life is:
Having a positive attitude! Sometimes it is hard, but having a positive attitude will get you through anything! My favorite TeamBonding shirt has printed on the front “Attitude is Everything”. I went through some tough medical issues and I wore that shirt to each treatment as a reminder that it is one of the few things in life we can control! I chose to have a positive attitude because the other choice is negative, and positive is so much more fun!
