“It is better to have one person working with you than three people working for you.”
– Dwight D. Eisenhower
There are many great political leaders that continue to inspire us today. Whether they led the United States to victory in a time of war or made progressive movements on the home front, America has a great history of leaders and activists who will always be relevant when it comes to leadership. Eisenhower knew that funny business was one way to build strong bonds.
Dwight D. Eisenhower was the 34th president of the United States and served from 1953 until 1961. He is known and respected for his role as a five-star general and the supreme commander of the Allied forces in Western Europe during World War II.
One of his most memorable tasks was leading the invasion of D-Day. After the war, Eisenhower then ran for president and won. During his presidency, he dealt with Cold War tensions with the Soviet Union, ended the Korean War, and promoted anti-communist thinking throughout the world. At home, Eisenhower left his mark by creating the Interstate Highway System, strengthening Social Security, and discrediting communist thinkers.
Dwight D. Eisenhower believed that a sense of humor was part of the art of leadership and getting things done.
He was one of the United States’ most powerful leaders because of the time period he served in and the events that were taking places around the world. Even though the 1950s were a very serious time in history, Eisenhower still thought a sense of humor would help people get along and work better together.
Eisenhower said, “Always take your job seriously, never yourself.” He prioritized getting the job done, but he knew that humor helped.
