Picking where to host your next conference can feel like a high-stakes guessing game. The right setting energizes your team and makes the whole event memorable; the wrong one leaves everyone counting down to checkout. With so many conference venues competing for your business, how do you know which cities and hotels deliver?

That’s where I come in. I’m Paul Giroux, a lead facilitator at TeamBonding, and after more than two decades of running team building events across North America, I’ve worked inside some truly incredible spaces.

When Cvent released its 2026 rankings of top meeting destinations and hotels, I grinned, because I’ve personally facilitated events at several of the hotels that made this year’s top 10, including the property that claimed the #1 spot.

In this article, I’ll share my insider perspective on these standout conference venues and what makes them special for hosting memorable corporate events. I’ll also highlight the best corporate meeting locations and conference destinations to give you even more options.

The power of conference venues and locations

The venue and the city you choose shape everything about your event. A walkable, well-designed city with thriving business, diverse food and culture, and beautiful scenery makes a real difference for both meetings and team building events.

These are the traits the best event planners look for when they help a Fortune 500 company plan a retreat, conference, or event that people will talk about for years. The same qualities that define great conference venues also define the best team building destinations.

The best conference locations

The best conference locations check a handful of boxes that go well beyond square footage. When I’m scouting cities, I look for places that offer:

World-renowned attractions and theme parks

Unique corporate meeting venues

Plenty of hotels, from luxury to budget

Spacious convention centers

Reliable weather

An abundance of activities

Exceptional facilities

[Image: Orlando] Orlando claimed the top meeting destination for the 11th year in a row.

The best meeting venues

The best meeting venues are the ones where the staff is eager to collaborate with you. After facilitating over 1,000 game shows and countless team building sessions, I’ve learned that beautiful ballrooms and cutting-edge tech matter, but they aren’t the whole story.

The venues that make Cvent’s list create environments where teams connect, collaborate, and leave feeling inspired. If you have your pick, choose a venue that treats you like a celebrity, not a problem.

I’d also suggest following the lead of today’s top event planners and looking for a venue that offers:

A stylish, inviting atmosphere

Spacious, flexible event rooms

A variety of spaces, from ballrooms to outdoor areas

A great catering team

Exceptional service

Advanced technology and reliable equipment

A walkable downtown or central location

Cvent’s top 10 meeting destinations for 2026

Cvent’s 2026 destination rankings draw on more than $20 billion in global sourcing and RFP activity through its platforms, so they reflect where planners are booking their most important events.

If you’re wondering whether the list is worth your attention, think of it this way: these are the conference destinations your competitors are eyeing for their next big event.

Demand is climbing, too. Cvent reports that 70% of event professionals predicted an increase in in-person events in 2026, and 95% expected their meeting spend to grow.

The complete top 10 list

Here are the top conference destinations for 2026, according to Cvent’s rankings:

Orlando, FL: Orlando holds Cvent’s top spot for the 11th consecutive year. It’s a memorable location your team will love.

Las Vegas, NV: The entertainment capital holds steady at #2, blending entertainment, luxury, and business.

Nashville, TN: Music City rose one spot to #3, and it’s home to numerous incredible conference venues.

Chicago, IL: Chicago slipped one spot to #4, but it remains a great blend of business and pleasure.

Dallas, TX: A consistent favorite for its central location and excellent facilities.

Atlanta, GA: Southern hospitality meets modern amenities in this vibrant setting for world-class events.

San Diego, CA: Legendary beaches, beautiful weather, and a laid-back vibe keep it in the top 10.

New York, NY: The standout mover this year, surging four spots to break into the top 10. The city’s resurgence as a premier corporate and association destination is hard to miss.

Austin, TX: Austin climbed two spots to #9, proof of its growing pull with meeting planners.

Washington, D.C.: The U.S. capital rounds out the list, ideal for events of historic proportions.

From world-class experiences in Orlando to the gateway energy of New York, these top conference destinations prove there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to a great event.

This year’s list highlights two trends worth watching. Gateway cities like New York are roaring back, while high-growth hubs like Nashville and Austin keep climbing. Planners clearly want destinations that pair big-city scale with experiences you can’t get anywhere else.

New York’s four-spot jump stood out to me the most. The city’s mix of iconic venues, transit access, and sheer density of things to do makes it a natural fit for large corporate and association events, and it’s a reminder that the meetings map keeps shifting.

Each city is a major business hub with a growing reputation in the meetings industry. They offer a blend of accessibility, culture, and hospitality that makes every event feel special.

Cvent’s top 10 meeting hotels for 2026

This year’s hotel rankings tell a different story from last year’s. Austin’s JW Marriott jumped four spots to claim #1, and the Gaylord brand had a standout year with three properties in the top 10.

That Gaylord showing says something about where group business is heading. These convention-center hotels are built to host large, complex programs under one roof, which is exactly what planners need when they’re moving hundreds of people through general sessions, breakouts, and meals.

Las Vegas showed its depth, too, landing three hotels in the top 10. That kind of range signals properties that can support big, involved events without losing responsiveness or that all-important sense of partnership.

[Image: JW Marriott Austin / Austin skyline] JW Marriott Austin rose four spots to claim the #1 hotel this year.

The complete top 10 list

Here are the 10 best conference venues in the country, according to Cvent’s 2026 list:

JW Marriott Austin, Austin, TX

Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center, Aurora, CO

The Venetian Resort Las Vegas, Las Vegas, NV

Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center, Nashville, TN

Fontainebleau Las Vegas, Las Vegas, NV

Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, Scottsdale, AZ

Wynn and Encore Las Vegas, Las Vegas, NV

Omni Nashville Hotel, Nashville, TN

Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center, Grapevine, TX

Fairmont Austin, Austin, TX

What do these conference venues have in common? They treat facilitators and event planners as partners, not vendors. They respond to RFPs quickly, prioritize collaboration, and offer curated group experiences that hold up throughout the event, not just at booking.

My personal experiences at these elite venues

I’ve worked inside many of the hotels on Cvent’s 2026 list, so I can’t wrap up without sharing a few highlights. The rankings are useful, but the real test of a venue is how the team shows up on event day, when rooms need to be flipped and timelines get tight.

Austin: where innovation meets Southern hospitality

Austin owns two spots on this year’s hotel list, including the new #1, and I’ve facilitated events at both. Austin’s energy is infectious, and these hotels capture it.

JW Marriott Austin

Seeing JW Marriott Austin claim #1 brought a smile to my face. I’ve facilitated multiple events here, many of which are built around local Austin themes. One favorite was a Price Is Right-style event called “C’mon Down” (everyone knows I love a good game show team building event).

We had questions about local food, like estimating the cost of authentic Austin barbecue for a group of 20, plus a bunch of other regional categories. The team’s flexibility helped us connect participants to the location in a memorable way.

Fairmont Austin

The Fairmont Austin has been a consistent partner for our “Tools for Schools” charity programs and high-energy “In It to Win It” events.

Their staff understands the logistics of large, complex events, helping with everything from securing space to pre-sorting donated items to coordinating local pickups. During one Tools for Schools event, we set up stores with supplies for over 100 backpacks, and the venue team executed a seamless room flip in just 20 minutes. Now that’s what I’m talking about.

Nashville: where music meets exceptional meetings

Nashville sits at #3 among this year’s conference destinations, and the Omni Nashville landed at #8 on the hotel list. Both rankings feel right to me.

Omni Nashville Hotel

I facilitated a custom team building event here where participants built musical instruments and wrote company-themed songs. We finished by donating the instruments to children’s charities around Nashville.

The staff was attentive and made sure everyone could relax and have fun with what we were doing. They’re one of the reasons this is among my favorite event memories.

Nashville keeps earning its reputation. I’ve also run events at the Renaissance Nashville, where the team actively collaborated to flip rooms between sessions and support custom programming. Music City rarely disappoints.

Ready to tap into TeamBonding’s nationwide network?

These Cvent-recognized venues represent some of the best conference locations in the U.S., but they’re just a sampling of the venues we work with nationwide.

At TeamBonding, we’ve built relationships with preferred venues across the country, places where we know the staff and can deliver exceptional experiences for your team.

We’re not limited to that network, either. We’re happy to bring our programs anywhere your team needs to gather.

The venues on Cvent’s 2026 list earned their recognition through consistent excellence, but the best conference venues for your team are the ones that fit your goals, budget, and vision. A smaller property that bends over backward for you can beat a famous name that treats you like a line item.

Summer’s winding down, the out-of-office replies are fading, and your team is trickling back to their desks with sand still in their shoes. Fall is that rare window between vacation season and the year-end sprint, which makes it the perfect time to pull everyone back together. The right fall team building activities can turn that awkward post-summer reset into real momentum.

I’m Paul, and in my 30 years of hosting events as TeamBonding’s Director of Facilitator Training, I’ve watched the season do something special to a group. People show up a little more relaxed, a little more open, and ready to laugh. That’s exactly why I love planning fall work activities, and why I rounded up nine of my favorites below.

These ideas work whether your crew is hybrid, remote, or fully in the office. Whether you kick things off with September team building activities or save the big swing for Halloween-inspired games later in the season, there’s something here for every team.

Over the years, I’ve facilitated hundreds of these events, and the pattern holds every fall. The teams that schedule something now, before the holiday chaos hits, walk into Q4 tighter and more energized than the ones that wait. So let’s dig in.

9 fall team building activities to try this season

1. Fall bake-off

Nothing breaks the ice faster than a little friendly food competition. A fall bake-off is a low-barrier, high-reward way to get people talking. Ask everyone to bring their best fall dessert: pies, breads, cookies, anything drowning in pumpkin spice.

Want more structure? Run a Team Chili Cook-Off. Each group starts with basic ingredients and earns extras by completing mini challenges, so it’s part cooking, part strategy, all delicious. It travels well, too, working in the office or remotely with photo submissions and online voting.

Craving variety? Turn it into a Salsa Showdown or an apple crumble cook-off. Yes, it gets competitive, and that’s exactly why it’s one of the easiest fall team building activities to pull off.

2. Give back

Fall is the season of gratitude, and giving back is one of the most meaningful ways to spend it together. In my experience, the events that involve helping others are the ones people talk about long after the snacks are gone.

Pick one or mix and match:

Foodbank Showdown. Teams compete to build care packages for families in need.

Little Team Library. Build a Little Free Library kit and co-write a children’s book.

The Donation Station. Assemble clothes, toys, or hygiene kits for local shelters.

Cooking for a Cause. Prepare meals for local shelters and food banks.

Paws for a Cause. Build dog beds and cat scratch pads for animal rescues.

The Big Give. Create toys and care items and donate them to local charities.

Emergency Shelter Build. Construct real shelters for people facing homelessness, then hand them off to a community partner.

These are fall office activities with heart, and a great way to line up your culture with kindness.

3. Pumpkin carving

It’s not fall without pumpkins. Pumpkin carving is one of the most iconic fall team building activities, especially in October. Split into small teams, hand out gourds and tools, set a timer, and vote on categories like Spookiest, Most Creative, and Best Pop Culture Reference.

Prefer to keep it remote? The virtual version works just as well. And if you want to channel some engineering energy, try Pumpkin Catapulting. I wrote the whole playbook on it, so trust me: launching a decorated gourd for distance is more fun than any adult should admit.

4. Costume contest

Adults love Halloween just as much as kids do. A Halloween Costume Contest blends creativity, competition, and a healthy dose of showing off. Have folks dress up, introduce themselves in character, and vote on winners.

Best Team Costume

Most Creative DIY

Scariest Costume

Most Likely to Be Worn Again at Target

Want a twist? Try Trick or Trivia, a Halloween quiz showdown, or go big with Corporate Project Runway: Halloween Edition, where teams get 20 minutes and one roll of toilet paper to build a look. These are October event ideas that let personalities shine.

5. Fall tastings

Seasonal sipping is a fall tradition I fully endorse. Hosting a tasting is an easy way to celebrate the flavors of the season, and it’s especially popular with hybrid and remote teams looking to unwind.

Wine Making or Wine Tasting. Explore rich reds or try a hands-on blending session.

Mixology Lessons. Learn to mix apple bourbon cocktails or spiced cider.

Mocktail Masters. Craft spirit-free cocktails through fun challenges where teams earn their ingredients, so everyone gets in on the fun.

Hot beverage flights. Offer coffee, cider, or hot chocolate with flavor cards and marshmallow mix-ins.

Pair these with another event or let them stand alone as a reward. Think classy happy hour with better lighting. A tasting is also one of the gentler ways to get a quieter team mingling, since a cup of cider in hand does wonders for loosening people up.

6. Pumpkin racing

Ready to crank up the energy? Pumpkin Racing is one of the quirkiest fall celebration ideas around, and it never fails to get competitive. Each team decorates and engineers a rolling pumpkin “car” with wheels, paint, and a spoiler.

Race them down a track, hand out prizes, and grab photos for the newsletter. It’s a perfect pick for National Pumpkin Day on October 26, and one of the few fall games adults will get genuinely fired up about.

7. Escape rooms

If your team needs a reminder that communication is more than a reply-all, an escape room is a hands-on fix. These puzzle-packed challenges run on teamwork, quick thinking, and the occasional triumphant “aha” under pressure.

Lock your crew in a conference room or keep it digital with a virtual option. Pick a fall-flavored adventure like the Virtual Haunted House Escape Room for puzzles with a paranormal twist. These fall team building activities in office or online both land the same way.

What I love about escape rooms is how fast they expose a team’s real dynamics. Within ten minutes, you can see who naturally organizes, who quietly solves problems, and who keeps everyone calm when the clock is ticking. That insight sticks around long after the door swings open.

8. Fall scavenger hunts

Few fall event ideas pack the same mix of adrenaline and bonding as a scavenger hunt. With crisp air and a noticeable morale bump after summer’s lull, it’s the right moment to send your team outdoors or online on a mission.

Today’s hunts are high-tech, app-based, and full of storytelling. Try Zombie Rising, where teams race to stop an undead outbreak. Want speed? Monster Mash Dash sends teams chasing monsters across the city. Prefer heart? Healthcare Heroes supports frontline workers heading into the colder months.

For something with a global spin, Passport to Adventure is a fast-paced quest packed with cultural challenges, puzzles, and strategic trading. These hunts flex to your team, your city, and your values, which makes them some of the most versatile fall work activities you can run.

9. Murder mysteries

Fall’s early sunsets set the perfect mood for a good mystery. A murder mystery is part theater, part puzzle, and 100% team building, pushing groups to communicate and think critically as they chase down suspects and secrets.

Want dinner and deception? Murder Mystery Dinners let people dress the part, enjoy a catered meal, and crack the case before dessert. Prefer to move? Sleuth: The Murder Mystery Scavenger Hunt blends clue-hunting with real-world exploration.

Murder mysteries turn quiet participants into curious collaborators, which is exactly why they’re one of the most memorable November fun work activities your company can host. I’ve seen the most reserved person in the room become the one who cracks the case, and that shift in confidence carries straight back to the day job.

Every week, I hear some version of the same question from HR leaders and managers: “How do we get our people to collaborate better when half of them think AI is going to replace them?” It’s a fair concern. The technology conversation has shifted from curiosity to anxiety in a lot of workplaces, and that anxiety can quietly erode trust, communication, and morale if you don’t address it head-on.

But here’s what I’ve learned after more than 35 years of running team building events for companies of every size, including 80% of the Fortune 100: the best way to turn uncertainty into confidence is through shared experience. And right now, AI team building is one of the most effective ways to create that experience.

In this article, I want to walk you through how AI-powered events are helping teams bond, communicate, and innovate together, and I’ll share a few of our programs that are getting incredible results.

Why does AI team building work so well?

This approach works because it puts everyone on equal footing. When your team sits down to use AI tools together for the first time, the playing field levels out. The senior VP and the newest hire are both figuring it out in real time, asking questions, laughing at unexpected outputs, and building something together. That kind of leveling rarely happens in a typical meeting or offsite.

The benefits of team building are well-documented: stronger communication, higher trust, and better retention. What AI adds to the equation is a sense of discovery. People get curious. They start experimenting. And when curiosity replaces anxiety, teams start communicating in ways they haven’t before.

Can AI help in building better team dynamics and communication? Absolutely, and I’ve watched it happen in real time. When people collaborate on something new and a little unpredictable, they naturally open up. They share ideas they might have kept to themselves in a conference room. They listen differently. That shift in dynamic is exactly what makes AI corporate activities so powerful for organizations trying to break through the same old patterns.

What do AI team building activities look like?

These programs come in all shapes and sizes, and they don’t require anyone on your team to be a tech expert. Our facilitators handle the heavy lifting, guiding participants through every step so the focus stays on collaboration, creativity, and fun. Here are a few of our programs that teams are loving right now.

Shark Teams AI

If you’ve ever watched Shark Tank and thought, “My team could do that,” Shark Teams AI is your chance to prove it. In this high-energy program, teams brainstorm a product concept, develop a pitch, and present it to a panel of “sharks” who evaluate each idea for creativity, viability, and presentation quality.

What makes this one special is the AI layer. Our facilitators guide teams in using AI tools to brainstorm ideas, refine their pitches, and sharpen their messaging. The combination of human creativity and AI assistance produces some surprisingly polished results, and a lot of laughs along the way. It teaches teams how to think strategically, collaborate under pressure, and present with confidence.

Breaking News AI

Breaking News AI is one of our newest AI-powered events, and it’s been a hit with groups of all sizes. Teams become independent news organizations tasked with producing a fictional “breaking news” broadcast using AI collaboration tools.

Participants take on roles like scriptwriting, research, image and video generation, voice synthesis, editing, and production. The stories are meant to be fun and creative; think silly workplace scenarios or exaggerated company milestones. Along the way, teams discover how human-AI collaboration can spark ideas and streamline work without replacing the human element. No tech background is needed, and our expert facilitators walk everyone through every step.

Charity Guitar Build

This one combines music, creativity, charitable giving, and AI into a single experience. In the Charity Guitar Build, teams construct electric guitars from scratch, design custom guitar straps and album covers, and then use AI-generated music composition tools to write their very own team song.

The guitars are donated to a local music school after the event, so your team walks away knowing their work will put instruments into the hands of aspiring musicians. If you’re looking for charitable team building that also introduces your group to AI in a creative, low-pressure way, this is a fantastic option.

Once Upon a Team

For teams that want to combine community impact with storytelling and creativity, Once Upon a Team is one of the most meaningful AI-powered group activities we offer. Participants customize duffel bags, pillowcases, and night lights for local foster children while collaborating on something truly special: an original children’s book.

Using guided prompts and intuitive AI tools, teams write and illustrate their own story, developing characters, themes, and imagery that reflect hope and adventure. Each book is printed onsite and added to the foster care bags, giving every child a one-of-a-kind keepsake. The storytelling process is full of communication, problem-solving, and plenty of laughter. Teams leave proud, energized, and deeply connected.

How can AI events boost employee engagement?

One of the biggest challenges I hear about from managers and HR professionals is keeping people engaged and motivated. Traditional off-sites and retreats can start to feel stale if you run the same formats year after year. AI events bring something genuinely fresh to the table because the technology itself is evolving so quickly. Every experience feels current and relevant, which keeps participation high and energy even higher.

I’ve watched teams walk into an AI-powered event with skepticism and walk out buzzing with ideas. That kind of energy doesn’t come from a PowerPoint presentation or a trust fall. It comes from doing something together that feels new, exciting, and a little unpredictable.

There’s also a practical takeaway that teams bring back to the office. When people learn how to collaborate with AI tools in a fun, pressure-free environment, they’re more comfortable experimenting with those tools at work. That translates directly into workplace innovation and productivity gains, which is exactly the kind of ROI that makes leadership pay attention.

Will AI replace human connection in team building?

Not a chance. I’ve been in this business long enough to know that no technology, no matter how impressive, will ever replace the experience of people laughing together, solving problems together, and creating something together. What AI does is give teams a new way to do all of those things. It’s a tool, not a substitute.

The best programs in this space use technology as a catalyst for connection, not a replacement for it. When a group of coworkers writes a ridiculous breaking news broadcast together or composes a team anthem using AI music tools, the technology fades into the background. What you remember is the collaboration, the creativity, and the feeling of accomplishing something as a group.

Ready to bring AI team building to your organization?

If you’ve been thinking about how to bring your team closer together while also helping them get comfortable with new technology, these experiences are one of the smartest investments you can make. You’ll give your people a shared experience that builds trust, sparks creativity, and sends them back to work feeling more connected and confident.

Planning the office Halloween celebration can feel like one more thing on an already packed plate, especially when you want it to land with everyone, from remote staff to the front office. The good news is that the right Halloween team building activities turn that pressure into the most memorable day of the season.

As the founder of TeamBonding, you might already know I’m pretty passionate about team building. I’m also a huge fan of Halloween, and I’ve spent years pairing the two to celebrate spooky season while bonding with employees and coworkers.

In this guide, I’ll highlight twelve of my favorite activities to BOO-st your team’s Halloween spirit and overall morale this year (sorry, couldn’t help myself with that pun).

12 fun Halloween team building office activities for the workplace

These Halloween team building activities are some of my favorites to spice up company parties in the fall.

From low-key office decor to competitive Halloween team games, these Halloween team building activities cover every kind of crew.

Whether you have your sights set on a virtual haunted house and pumpkin carving or you want to step it up a notch with pumpkin racing, you’ll find what you’re looking for on this list.

So, without further ado, my top twelve group activities for Halloween:

1. Do a virtual pumpkin carving class

Carve out some time with your team (the puns continue) with virtual pumpkin carving. It’s an alternative to an in-person pumpkin carving Halloween team building activity for remote and hybrid teams.

This is one of my favorite Halloween virtual events for work because it’s great from start to finish. Your team members will have carving kits delivered to their doors ahead of time, which really amps up the excitement. (I mean, who doesn’t love getting presents?)

Next, they’ll hop on an event hosted by a Master Pumpkin Sculptor, have fun together, and wrap things up with awards and prizes.

Pro tip: This is also a great way to celebrate National Pumpkin Day on October 26th!

Whether you’ve heard of the world-famous Pumpkin Races or not, this one’s always a hit. Our Pumpkin Race is an in-person event where your team will work together to assemble and design pumpkin racers before competing for the Grand Champion title.

This is one of the most fun and unusual Halloween team building ideas your team will ever experience! Trust me.

I’ll never forget the first time we tried Pumpkin Racing. I admit, I was a bit skeptical until I saw teams from a tech company get super invested in the aerodynamic designs and weight distribution of their individual pumpkins—it was like watching Formula 1!

The top two teams had these strategically designed racers that just demolished the rest of the competition. One was lovingly titled the “over-engineered gourd,” and it became a mascot for the rest of the day. I think that was when I knew we’d found a winner!

3. Give everyone creepy treats

This is less of an engaged, hands-on Halloween team building activity and more of a fun gift to your team. No matter how you approach it, you’ll have plenty of tasty cookies, candies, cocktails, and other treats to enjoy after the event!

Whether you’re in-person, virtual, or hybrid, just look for a fun way to provide your team with a wealth of creepy treats, spooky cocktails, and candy platters. You can even make it a Halloween food contest and give a special prize to the winners.

You can find tons of themed recipes on Pinterest if you need some inspiration.

4. Shake up some spooky mocktails

Want the festive cocktail energy without the booze? Spirit-free spooky drinks are one of the easiest Halloween office ideas to make inclusive for everyone on the team.

Our Mocktail Masters class turns mixology into a game. Your team will tackle fun challenges to earn ingredients, then craft their own zero-proof creations under the guidance of a pro.

It’s a natural fit for spooky season, too. A little dry ice fog, some blood-orange garnish, and a creepy name or two, and you’ve got a “potion lab” your whole team can enjoy together, designated drivers included.

5. Go all out with Halloween decor

Not all celebrations have to be active, scheduled events. Sometimes, decorating the office for spooky season is plenty! And nothing says Halloween like some creepy decor around the office (or on your newsletter and socials for virtual teams).

Here are my picks for quick, festive Halloween decor:

Pumpkins (bonus points if they’re entries from a pumpkin carving contest!)

Ghosts

Bats

Spider webs

Gravestones

Want to go a step further? Turn the office into a haunted house that your team will get to see on their way out the door on the last workday of October. Just don’t amp up the experience until everyone’s done working so they’re not distracted.

Pro tip: The more glow, the better! And the possibilities are endless with flameless candles.

6. Try a haunted house escape room

Speaking of haunted houses, think your team is brave enough to try a virtual Haunted House Escape Room? I do!

This Halloween team building activity is one of my favorites every year. Your team will compete against each other while solving cryptic clues and completing hilarious photo challenges to be the first to escape the virtual haunted house.

Escape rooms also make awesome Halloween-themed icebreakers since new team members will get to show off their skills as integral parts of the equation.

7. Catapult and smash some pumpkins

Okay, I know this isn’t a normal Halloween team building activity, but we all need to blow off some steam every now and then. Workdays can be draining, so what better way to let loose and prevent burnout than catapulting pumpkins and watching them explode?

Trust me, our Halloween version of Catapult to Success will be sure to give your team a day they will remember, whether you’re hosting the event for Halloween or just as a Fall team building idea.

This whole thing started in 2017 when PEAK Scientific got in touch with us about a team building program. They saw our Catapult to Success program and raised us catapulting pumpkins—pure genius.

You’ll use household materials to build a launching mechanism for mini pumpkins before competing to see who can fling theirs the furthest and be crowned champion. It’s an experience like no other, and it’ll keep your teams talking for years to come.

8. Take on a Squid Game-inspired challenge

If your team loves a little high-stakes drama, this is the Halloween team game for you (minus the actual stakes, of course). Our Squad Game puts teamwork and creativity to the test across five immersive challenges inspired by the hit show.

The eerie, competitive tension fits spooky season perfectly. Teams race through rounds that reward quick thinking and tight coordination, and the suspense between challenges is half the fun.

It’s one of those Halloween team building office activities that gets even the quietest colleagues fired up, since every round needs the whole group pulling together to advance.

9. Solve a murder mystery

Few things are spookier than putting your team’s detective skills to the test to find a killer. In our Virtual Murder Mystery Dinner, In the Company of Killers, you and your team will do just that.

It starts with a virtual cocktail hour where you and your team will meet four of the most outlandish characters around. Clues and motives start popping up. Then, suddenly, the murder! And the fun really begins.

You could also try our Virtual Crime Scene Investigation, where your team will become an elite CSI unit tasked with sorting through the evidence to figure out who committed a crime, how they did it, and why.

Regardless of which you pick, this Halloween virtual game for work will have your team questioning suspects, evaluating clues, and putting your best problem-solving skills to work with our state-of-the-art virtual crime scene. Spooky right?

I might be a bit biased, but I highly recommend trying this one! These really hold a special place in my heart, partially because my first venture was The Mystery Cafe, a murder mystery theatre that did weekly dinner shows in a Boston bar’s basement.

This was before murder mystery dinners were trending, and my first show was Death and Taxes (a comedy about corporate greed).

We transformed that dark, old basement into a fully immersive crime scene, smashed enough mirrors to bring a lifetime of bad luck, and took down towering 8-foot doors to create custom sets that bore no resemblance to the basement bar.

10. Have fun with a Halloween scavenger hunt

Ah, scavenger hunts—they’re such fun experiences that’ll take you right out of your daily life. It’s no wonder that they’re some of our most popular Halloween icebreaker games!

Despite how much of an escape it is, the thrill of a scavenger hunt fosters team spirit, encourages collaboration, and boosts problem-solving among colleagues.

Your team members will immerse themselves in a Halloween-themed adventure that could range from a zombie apocalypse in Zombie Rising to chasing down monsters in the Monster Mash Dash.

Any of our Halloween scavenger hunts are sure to add a touch of mystery and excitement to the workplace this fall, and they always make for memorable and enjoyable experiences for everyone involved.

11. Embark on a global quest

Looking for something with a sense of adventure baked in? Passport to Adventure is a fast-paced quest filled with global puzzles, cultural challenges, and strategic trading.

While it isn’t strictly spooky, it scratches the same itch as a Halloween scavenger hunt: teams racing the clock, solving riddles, and wheeling and dealing their way to victory.

It’s a great pick when you’ve got a mixed crew that wants the energy of a hunt without the haunted-house theme. The collaboration, communication, and friendly competition all carry over beautifully to your fall celebration.

12. Compete with a Quickfire Halloween game

This is more than an app-based Halloween team building activity. it’s an experience that’ll ignite your creativity and spooky season spirit!

Your team will conquer a series of thrilling Halloween challenges, like pumpkin-themed games, spooky makeup, trivia, dance-offs, and so much more. There’s a challenge for every Halloween enthusiast!

For those of us who love Halloween, waiting until October can feel like an eternity. That’s where Summerween 2026 comes in! Why keep the decorations and costumes packed away all year? It’s a question so many Halloween fans have been asking, and Summerween is the ultimate answer.

Summerween has gained serious popularity in recent years, and it turns out that people love embracing spooky Halloween vibes during the warmest months. It’s also a perfect summer spirit week theme to spice things up if you can figure out what to do for Summerween. Planning a Summerween party is one of the easiest ways to break up the summer workweek and give your team something to look forward to.

In this article, we’ll explore what Summerween is and when Summerween is celebrated before diving into our favorite Summerween ideas for the office. So, put on your vampire teeth, break out the candy corn, and get ready for some fun Summerween activities!

What (& when) is Summerween?

Let’s start at square one. Summerween is basically just Summer Halloween, an excuse for Halloween lovers to enjoy what the holiday has to offer more than once a year.

This holiday does have an interesting origin story, though. Summerween originates from Season 1, Episode 12 of the now-completed hit Disney cartoon Gravity Falls.

In the show, residents of Gravity Falls love Halloween and decide that once a year isn’t enough, so they began celebrating it twice a year. Once on October 31st, as usual, and then once on their chosen Summerween date, July 22nd.

Summerween’s “traditional” decorations & celebrations

In Gravity Falls, Summerween decor and celebrations include all the typical trappings of Halloween, plus a couple of unique elements:

Classic spooky Halloween decorations are placed throughout town

Trick-or-treating for candy and treats

Jack-o’-melons instead of jack-o’-lanterns

A Summerween trickster story about a monster that eats kids who don’t celebrate

When is Summerween 2026?

Summerween is often celebrated on July 22nd, just like in Gravity Falls. For Summerween 2026, the “traditional” date falls on Wednesday, July 22nd.

In workplaces around the US, though, Summerween can be celebrated whenever you want! Most offices that participate in this fun holiday aim for some time in July, but there’s no rule saying you can’t move it to fit your team’s schedule.

Summerween 2026 is really just a great theme for a fun summertime office party, which can be a wonderful way to prevent boreout at work, increase engagement, build bonds, and more.

Plus, it’ll help all the Gravity Falls fans find each other and bond over their love of this cult classic show. It has a pretty large following among adult viewers. It’s considered a highly influential series, so don’t be surprised if a few people on your team get very excited about celebrating Halloween in summer.

Summerween party ideas

Now that you know what Summerween is, let’s get down to the Summerween party ideas!

Since Summerween is based on Halloween, you can also use fall event and party ideas for inspiration. Don’t limit yourself to Summerween ideas alone; have fun and embrace all sorts of spooky concepts from fall and Halloween.

That said, here are our top Summerween 2026 ideas to inspire your office celebration:

1. Carve jack-o’-melons

Nothing says Halloween like pumpkin carving, and in Gravity Falls, nothing says Summerween like melon carving!

It’s super easy to swap those pumpkins out for melons. Melon carving is a great way to have fun with your coworkers, let off some stress, embrace your creativity, and build bonds. You’ll have some spooky Summerween decorations when you’re done, too.

We recommend holding a melon carving contest, letting everyone vote on their top three favorites, and giving out some nice prizes (gift cards and even extra time off always land).

If your teams are virtual, don’t worry. Virtual melon carving is an option, too! Even if your teams are spread out all over the country or globe, you can still come together to embrace the Summerween cheer by carving jack-o’-melons.

Just remember to stay safe while carving! Be sure to go over the basics of knife usage and safety before starting to ensure you stay safe while having fun.

Pro tip: For on-site teams, cube up all the watermelon for snacks and put some in a blender for refreshing watermelon juice! Everyone at the office will thank you.

2. Tell spooky stories around the fire

Another Halloween classic is telling spooky stories by the fire, so why not tell them in the summer, too? Spooky stories are welcome year-round in our book, which makes them perfect Summerween activities.

Set up a bonfire (or grill), get out the decorations, bring out some themed food and drinks, and enjoy the company of your coworkers while you share all sorts of spooky and fun stories.

And just like melon carving, you can tell stories over a virtual bonfire, too. One of the best things about this idea is that it’s simple and doesn’t require a whole lot of setup. All you need is a bonfire, your teammates, and some spooky stories!

Pro tip: The crew here at TeamBonding is always happy to customize events. Consider hosting a storytelling event like Team PechaKucha and theming it around Summerween.

3. Host a haunted BBQ

Another great way to celebrate Summerween is with a haunted BBQ. Everybody loves a good BBQ, and adding in a whole bunch of spooky elements makes it even better.

You have a lot of freedom with this option and can set it up however you like. Haunted decorations are a must, so start with some of these staples:

Ghosts and ghouls hanging from trees or tent poles

Bats and vampires scattered around the space

Skulls and tombstones for a creepy graveyard corner

Candles and cobwebs draped across serving tables

Themed foods and drinks also go a long way (check out our food and drink section below for ideas).

A haunted BBQ can be a great jumping-off point to incorporate a whole bunch of Summerween events and activities. You can even mix in some of the other options on this list; melon carving or spooky storytelling are always popular Summerween party ideas.

Pro tip: This is one of the best options for Summerween if your team loves food. If you don’t have an outdoor location, consider turning it into a potluck and inviting everyone to bring their best Summerween food ideas!

4. Host a costume contest

When most people think of Halloween, costumes and costume contests are some of the first things that come to mind. It’s no surprise, then, that costume contests are an incredibly popular way to celebrate Halloween in summer.

Costume contests allow employees to express themselves and their creativity, all while having fun and creating lifelong memories and bonds with their coworkers.

This is an event that you can easily combine with some of the others here. You can also customize it yourself. For example, try finding some Summerween DIY ideas on Pinterest and making your costumes together!

Pro tip: If you combine this with other events, schedule the contest as the main event of the whole Summerween 2026 celebration.

5. Spooky ice cream challenge

Summerween is all about celebrating Halloween in summer, so why not incorporate some classic summer event ideas with your Summerween celebration?

A spooky ice cream challenge is the perfect blend of summer and Halloween. Get your costumes and decorations, break out the ice cream, add some spooky toppings, and you’re all set for a spooky ice cream party!

Parties like this are a good way to build camaraderie and boost morale while having fun. They’re the kind of low-pressure Summerween activities that even your shiest team members will enjoy.

Pro tip: If you have a remote or hybrid team, swap this out for a Virtual Cookie Decorating event!

6. Treat your team to themed trivia

Last but not least is the ever-relevant trivia, an activity that can be customized to any theme imaginable, including Summerween.

There are countless spooky topics you can choose from for Summerween trivia:

Classic horror movies and shows for the film buffs

Real-life spooky stories for the brave at heart

Haunted places from around the world

Monsters and myths across cultures and folklore

Spooky science like bioluminescence and the uncanny valley

With the right questions and an ample amount of ghosts, bats, and skeletons for decoration, trivia can be a perfect option for your Summerween party.

We also offer a virtual Trick or Trivia, which simplifies setup and makes this event doable for virtual teams!

Pro tip: Consider inviting your team to submit their own trivia questions! They could be about your company, their teams, or Summerween, and it’ll help get them invested in the celebration.

Summerween food & drink ideas

Every great Summerween celebration needs food and drinks to spice up your party. While you could take the easy way out and just serve normal concessions, why not go all out with Summerween treats and drinks?

We know this can be a tall order, though, so we’re going to provide some easy Summerween food ideas.

If you’re struggling with what to serve with your Summerween party ideas, consider some of these food and drink options.

Frightful food

We’ll start with the food, which can seriously amp up any Summerween party idea!

Frankenstein fruit salad: Carve out a watermelon, decorate it like Frankenstein, and fill it with green fruits like honeydew and grapes for a Frankenstein fruit salad, perfect for Summerween. This is one of our favorite Summerween food ideas.

Mummy dogs: This one’s easy. Wrap some hot dogs with crescent rolls, bake them, use condiments to decorate them like mummies, and you’ve got some tasty and spooky mummy dogs. You could even make a fun cooking event out of it.

Spider web nachos: This is just nachos arranged like a big spider web. You’ll add cheese for more webs, then toppings like guacamole and sour cream, and finally some black olives for spiders. Viola: spiderweb nachos!

Grilled “ghoul” cheese: It’s easy to spice up regular grilled cheese sandwiches by cutting them into spooky shapes, like bats or ghosts, with a cookie cutter. Simple, delicious, and perfect for Summerween.

Consider asking your team to bring in Summerween-themed snacks, just like we suggested with the potluck idea earlier.

Dreadful drinks

If you’re like us, you think of things like fruit punch when you think of Summerween party ideas. Check out these drink ideas to get inspired!

Ghoul-Aid punch: Make regular old fruit punch a dreadful drink by adding blueberry-stuffed lychees to the regular green or red punch. The lychees stuffed with blueberries look like eyeballs, adding a scarily delicious twist to the classic punch.

Spooky smoothies: By layering smoothies with Halloween/Summerween colors like orange, green, and purple, you can easily turn them into spooky smoothies. Bring some themed add-ons, like fake spiders or scary cups, and you’re in business!

Monster milkshakes: Summer is milkshake season, so monster milkshakes are perfect for Summerween. Bring green and purple food coloring for style points, plus some spooky toppings like gummy worms and candy eyes.

Blood orange margaritas: If you want alcohol at your party, blood orange margaritas are a great option. The blood orange juice gives the margaritas a bright, eerie red; you can also add fake spiders and Halloween glasses for more frightful fun.

That last one, blood orange margaritas, translates well as a Virtual Mixology Class for remote teams.

Celebrate Summerween 2026 with TeamBonding!

September 11, 2001, was tragic, horrific, and profoundly upsetting. It shook the foundation of the American people, serving as a turning point. The events of that morning shattered our sense of safety but awakened something deeply human in us: the desire to come together, to help, to remember. Even after more than two decades, the question remains: what activities for 9/11 can truly do justice to the lives lost and the heroes who emerged?

The answer lies in how we show up for each other every day. That’s the spirit behind the National Day of Service and Remembrance, which turns grief into action and remembrance into a collective purpose. And where better to embody that spirit than in the workplace, where collaboration and shared goals shape our daily lives?

Whether your team is remote, hybrid, or in-office, here are five powerful 9/11 remembrance ideas to bring meaning to your workday.

5 activities for 9/11 to honor the day at work

1. Give back to the community

There’s no better way to honor 9/11 than to give back and make a difference in your community. Volunteer opportunities are plentiful around September 11, and by participating as a team, you can come together to work for the greater good. These charitable team building activities are some of the most impactful activities for 9/11 that your workplace can organize.

Charity Bike Build

The Charity Bike Build is TeamBonding’s most celebrated and impactful program, where teams unite to assemble and donate bikes to children who might not otherwise have one. With nearly 20,000 bikes gifted to date, this hands-on event blends purpose with collaboration, creating a high-energy atmosphere filled with joy and connection.

Ideal for groups of 15 to 1,000, the one to two-hour experience is tailored for Corporate Social Responsibility and authentic team bonding. Partnering with organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters makes the event truly unforgettable, especially when children arrive to receive their brand-new bikes in person.

Wheelchairs in Motion

Wheelchairs in Motion is a high-impact, hands-on team building event where participants assemble and donate wheelchairs to disabled U.S. veterans and individuals in need of mobility support. Ideal for teams of 30 to 500, this one to two-hour experience blends collaboration, empathy, and a sense of purpose.

Guided by expert facilitators, teams complete challenges that highlight their strengths and reinforce the value of meaningful teamwork. TeamBonding partners with local veterans’ organizations, hospitals, and senior centers to ensure each wheelchair directly benefits someone in the community.

Impact Online

Impact Online is a purpose-driven virtual team building experience centered around the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals. In teams of six or more, participants complete interactive challenges, trivia, and puzzles that promote collaboration, communication, and social awareness.

Each activity encourages strategic thinking and celebrates individual strengths while driving home real-world issues like clean water, education, and climate action. Points earned throughout the game are converted into charitable donations via the B1G1 foundation, creating a tangible impact. It’s an inspiring, educational experience that proves virtual connection can still create real-world change.

Paws for a Cause

Paws for a Cause is a fun, hands-on team building event where participants support local animal shelters by crafting handmade dog beds, pull toys, and cat scratch pads. Through pet-themed games and trivia, teams earn points to “shop” for materials, combining creativity, competition, and compassion.

Ideal for 15 to 100 participants, this two-hour event boosts morale while promoting Corporate Social Responsibility. TeamBonding can even arrange for a shelter representative to accept the donations in person, adding a heartwarming impact to an already meaningful experience. It’s tail-wagging teamwork with a purpose.

2. Observe a moment of silence

Sometimes, the most powerful tribute is no words at all.

Observing a moment of silence, especially at the six nationally recognized times that mark pivotal moments of 9/11, connects your team to the day’s emotional reality.

Encourage employees to pause work, silence notifications, and gather (physically or virtually) to reflect. Share a list of moments ahead of time and consider reading the names of victims or playing soft, reflective music in the background. This is one of the simplest, yet most powerful 9/11 remembrance ideas that every workplace and individual can put into practice.

Here’s a breakdown of the significant moments of silence:

8:46 a.m. The exact moment when American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower.

9:03 a.m. The moment when United Airlines Flight 175 struck the South Tower.

9:37 a.m. The moment when American Airlines Flight 77 hit the Pentagon.

10:02 a.m. The moment when United Airlines Flight 93 crashed in a field outside Shanksville.

10:29 a.m. The moment when the North Tower collapsed.

3. Honor 9/11 with a guest speaker

Storytelling changes people. It stirs emotions and builds empathy. Inviting a guest speaker who lived through 9/11 or who speaks on public service can be a profound way to educate and inspire your team.

Whether it’s a firefighter, military veteran, Red Cross volunteer, or someone like motivational speaker Mark J. Lindquist, a live talk humanizes the experience and makes history feel real. These moments often spark lasting reflection and may inspire team members to take on new service commitments.

If your team is distributed, consider hosting a virtual speaker session followed by an open Q&A. This keeps engagement high and gives employees a platform to connect and reflect in meaningful ways.

4. Attend memorial activities for 9/11

There’s no shortage of commemorative events in September, and attending one as a team is a unified way to honor 9/11 at work.

Explore options like:

Local or virtual memorial events and services at firehouses, town halls, or schools.

9/11 museum virtual tours, like those offered by the 9/11 Memorial & Museum in New York.

Webinars and panels on the long-term effects of the tragedy, including topics on counterterrorism, grief recovery, and the future of civic service.

Online remembrance walls, where employees can post reflections, memories, or messages of love, peace, and hope.

Encourage employees to attend events during work hours, if possible, and consider following up with a discussion or journal prompt to help the experience resonate.

5. Fly your office flag at half mast

It may be symbolic, but symbols matter, especially in times of remembrance. Lowering your flag on 9/11 is a visible sign of respect, one that aligns your team with a national act of remembrance.

Not every office has a flagpole, but that shouldn’t stop you. Share a digital banner, update your company’s intranet homepage with a tribute, or encourage employees to wear red, white, and blue on September 11. You might also set up a space where team members can create 9/11 crafts, such as memorial ribbons, handwritten tribute cards, or collaborative art pieces that honor first responders. These small acts carry weight and communicate that your organization values compassion as much as productivity.

9/11 remembrance ideas to honor service members

Asking how to honor 9/11 at work also means acknowledging those who answered the call afterward. Thousands of men and women joined the military in the wake of 9/11, serving overseas in response to the attacks.

To honor these individuals, consider implementing year-round service opportunities like Operation Military Care. In this program, teams assemble care packages for active-duty troops, complete with non-perishable snacks, essentials like hygiene products, and personal messages. It’s one of the most heartfelt activities for 9/11, reminding participants that support for service doesn’t have to end when the calendar turns.

You can also:

Write letters to service members through organizations like Soldiers’ Angels.

Highlight veteran-owned businesses during team meetings or internal newsletters.

Launch a donation drive to support military families in need.

By weaving these into workplace culture, you go beyond one day, building a practice of ongoing respect and commemoration. Research consistently shows that volunteering benefits employees just as much as the communities they serve, strengthening morale and connection across the team.

Let us help you bring purpose, empathy, and teamwork to your 9/11 remembrance events. Contact TeamBonding now so your workplace can honor the past while building a better future.

Over my 30+ years as a corporate trainer and facilitator, I’ve watched hundreds of teams evolve, and I’ve noticed something that always holds true. The strongest, most productive teams don’t just happen. They grow through distinct, predictable stages. That’s why I want to walk you through the five stages of team development and share what I’ve learned working with organizations across every industry.

What Is Team Development?

Understanding team development has become more critical than ever. In today’s workplace, organizations are increasingly relying on cross-functional teams, remote collaboration, and rapid restructuring. Knowing how to navigate the 5 stages of team development helps leaders anticipate challenges, accelerate progress, and build high-performing teams.

Team development is the process of helping people work together more effectively through structured activities, clear leadership, and intentional effort. When teams successfully move through these stages, they don’t just perform better; they communicate more openly, trust each other more deeply, and solve problems together rather than creating roadblocks. It’s a skill that every manager, HR professional, and team leader can cultivate—and it’s one of the most rewarding investments you can make in building a cohesive team.

Why Does Team Development Matter?

I’ve spent over 30 years working with teams across the Fortune 500 and nonprofits, and it’s taught me this: team development isn’t optional if you want your organization to thrive. Teams that actively develop tend to outperform their peers in nearly every measurable way, from efficiency and innovation to retention and employee satisfaction.

Here’s what I’ve observed: when people genuinely like working with each other and feel invested in their team’s success, the entire culture shifts. Productivity goes up. Turnover goes down. And honestly, people look forward to coming to work. That’s the ripple effect of investing in your people.

What many leaders miss is that team development isn’t a one-time event or annual offsite. It’s ongoing. Teams can stagnate, and without attention, they can slip backward. The healthiest organizations treat team development as something that evolves continuously, just like professional development.

The Five Stages of Team Development

Stage 1: Forming; Building Your Foundation

The forming stage is where everything begins. Your team is assembled. People are meeting each other, learning about one another’s habits and communication styles, and starting to clarify roles and expectations.

This stage feels polite. People are careful and curious about their teammates, but cautious about overstepping. You’ll hear a lot of “What’s your working style?” and “How do you prefer feedback?”

Why the Forming Stage Matters

The forming stage sets the foundation for everything that comes next. If your team doesn’t establish basic trust, clear communication, and genuine connection during the forming stage, you’ll feel the impact for months. Conversely, when teams invest in really getting to know each other early, the rest comes easier.

From my experience, the biggest mistake leaders make during forming is rushing. They want to jump straight to delivering results. But skipping relationship-building guarantees you’ll hit turbulence in the next stage.

What Forming Looks Like in Practice

Suppose a software development team spends their first week on structured get-to-knows; sharing backgrounds, work preferences, communication styles and even professional goals. It might feel slow and make leaders get antsy. But I’ve seen teams that invest that time hit their collaborative stride in half the time it takes teams that skip it. The foundation you lay in forming pays off with compounding returns at every stage that follows.

One powerful activity I recommend is team building exercises designed around communication and relationship-building. Events that get people talking and collaborating without the pressure of immediate work deadlines help accelerate this stage.

Stage 2: Storming

Now your team knows each other a bit, and the real work begins. Welcome the storming: what I affectionately call the “growing pains” phase.

In storming, personality differences surface. People have different work styles, different priorities, and different approaches to problem-solving. Some folks want to plan everything, while others want to jump in and experiment. Some are direct communicators, while others are more diplomatic. Those differences, which seemed charming during forming, now create friction.

I constantly see conflict emerge around decision-making, role clarity, and resource allocation. Quieter team members might withdraw. More outspoken members might dominate. Alliances form. It’s messy, and it’s completely normal.

Conflict Is Natural; How You Handle It Matters More

Here’s a big truth I’ve learned: teams that skip storming successfully don’t exist. Conflict resolution isn’t a sign of failure; it’s a sign of authenticity. The real test is how your team handles that conflict.

What Storming Looks Like in Practice

Imagine two co-leads on a fundraising campaign with completely different visions. One wants grassroots outreach, the other wants corporate sponsorships. Week two arrives, and the tension boils over. I’ve seen this kind of conflict play out dozens of times. The teams that come out stronger are almost always the ones where the manager stepped in early, created space for direct dialogue, and helped both people feel genuinely heard. What could have derailed the project becomes the moment the team learns to work through hard things together.

The best interventions during storming are effective communication training and conflict resolution support. Get your team talking directly about tensions, not around them. When leaders model this, acknowledging conflict openly and addressing it calmly, the entire team learns to do the same.

Stage 3: Norming

If your team successfully navigates storming, norming is the payoff. Now people understand each other better. They’ve worked through conflict and discovered they can disagree and still respect one another.

In norming, you see genuine collaboration emerge. Decision-making gets faster. People know each other’s strengths and consciously leverage them. There’s real team spirit, and people aren’t just tolerating each other—they’re invested in each other’s success.

The language shifts. Instead of “my project,” it becomes “our goal.” People offer help without being asked, cover for one another, and celebrate one another’s wins. The team develops shared norms; unwritten agreements about how they work together and what they value.

Psychological Safety Takes Root

During norming, I also notice something subtle but powerful: psychological safety deepens. People feel comfortable admitting when they don’t know something. They ask for help without fear of being seen as incompetent. They share ideas that might sound wild at first, knowing the team will consider them seriously.

What Norming Looks Like in Practice

Picture a marketing team around month four. Suppose a senior person starts naturally mentoring a junior colleague, not because it’s in their job description, but because they’ve come to genuinely care about that person’s growth. People start bringing ideas to help teammates, not just themselves. Meeting energy shifts from guarded to open. I’ve watched this transformation happen across teams in nearly every industry, and it always looks roughly the same: quieter voices start speaking up, and the people who used to dominate start listening more. That’s norming working the way it’s supposed to.

Sustaining Momentum

The risk during norming is complacency. Things are working, so leaders think the job is done. But teams need ongoing investment. Activities that build team camaraderie reinforce connection and build on newfound trust. Events focused on problem-solving and collaboration help teams strengthen the bonds they’ve built.

Stage 4: Performing

This is where teams shine. People are working at a high level, solving complex problems together, and enjoying each other’s company while doing it.

In the performing stage, your team doesn’t need constant management. They’re self-directed. Conflicts get resolved quickly because the team has the tools and the trust to handle them. People take initiative. There’s healthy accountability; teammates hold each other to high standards because they care about the shared mission.

What Performing Looks Like in Practice

What does this look like? Suppose a cross-functional product team is six months in. Problems get identified before they escalate. When one person gets overwhelmed, others redistribute the load without being asked. Decisions that used to require three meetings get made in one. I’ve seen this pattern emerge across teams when they’ve genuinely done the work in the earlier stages: there’s a palpable shift in energy, from cautious to confident, from reactive to proactive.

Maintenance Over Finish Lines

Here’s the most critical insight: performing isn’t a finish line. It’s a new baseline that requires maintenance. The best leaders use this stage to raise the bar further, pursue stretch goals, and continue developing people, both individually and as a unit.

Stage 5: Adjourning

The final stage is adjourning: The project ends, the team disbands or restructures. Perhaps someone leaves or comes on board. Either way, the dynamic shifts.

Adjourning often gets overlooked, but it’s critical. How you close out a chapter determines how people move forward and how they show up to their next team.

Reflection and Celebration

The two essential elements during adjourning are reflection and celebration. Reflection means taking real time to process what worked, what didn’t, and what you’d do differently. Celebration means acknowledging the hard work, the victories, and the growth that happened.

What Performing Looks Like in Practice

Consider a consulting team wrapping up a two-year client engagement. They could just send a goodbye email and move on. But suppose instead they spend an afternoon reflecting together, sharing what worked, what didn’t, what they’d do differently, and what they’re proud of. In my experience, that kind of intentional closure changes how people carry the experience forward. They leave feeling proud rather than just tired. And they show up to their next team with a clearer sense of what good collaboration looks like.

Bringing It All Together: The Role of Leadership in Team Development

Over three decades, I’ve learned that intentional team development—moving teams through these stages rather than just hoping they naturally align—is one of the highest-impact investments you can make.

Great leadership in team development means recognizing which stage your team is in and providing what they need.

Forming: Leaders should facilitate connection.

Storming: They should coach conflict resolution.

Norming: Leaders should reinforce the progress.

Performing: They should challenge and grow the team.

Adjourning: Leaders should create space for reflection and celebration.

The teams I’ve seen succeed aren’t the ones with the smartest people or the best resources. They’re the ones where leadership and team members show up intentionally, invest in each other, communicate directly, and commit to growth.

Team development is how you transform a group of individuals into a cohesive, high-performing unit. It takes patience, honest conversation, and sustained effort. But I promise you, on the other side of these five stages is a team that can accomplish remarkable things together.

THE GIST: A great office potluck isn’t about the food, it’s about creating connection, boosting morale, and making it easy for everyone to participate. The key is thoughtful planning: choose a clear theme, offer inclusive options, and keep logistics simple so people want to join in.

Planning a potluck at work sounds simple enough, right? Somebody sends a sign-up sheet, everybody brings something, and you all gather around the break room like one big happy family. But if you’ve ever shown up to a table of seven bags of chips, two store-bought cookie trays, and nothing else, you know the reality can be a little different. The best office potluck ideas don’t just happen. They need a little structure, a good theme, and a plan that makes it easy for everyone to contribute something they’re proud of.

We take food pretty seriously here at TeamBonding, and I’ve seen firsthand how a well-organized work potluck can bring people together in ways that meetings and Slack channels simply can’t.

Whether you’re an HR professional looking for fresh ideas or a team leader trying to build morale, this guide is packed with office potluck ideas and themes to make your next event one everyone talks about.

What are the best potluck themes for work?

Potluck themes for work give people direction and make the whole event feel more intentional. When there’s a clear theme, everyone feels more confident about what to bring, and the food actually works together on the table instead of looking like a random buffet.

Holiday favorites

Every holiday has its signature dishes, and every team has someone whose favorite memory involves a specific side dish. Whether you’re planning a December gathering or a seasonal celebration in spring or summer, holiday potlucks tap into a sense of tradition that brings people closer.

Invite team members to share short stories about why they chose their dish. It creates personal investment without forcing anyone to overshare. We did a Halloween potluck one year at TeamBonding, and people went all in with spooky donuts and pumpkin-shaped sweet potato fries. The creativity alone was worth the event.

Around the world

Multicultural teams shine with this theme. Ask each participant to bring a dish from their cultural background or a cuisine they love. Label dishes with their names, origins, and spice levels (seriously, do that), and you’ve got a global lunch that sparks curiosity and conversation.

Dishes like Asian noodle salad, shrimp cocktail, empanadas, or samosas work well here. Store-bought options are absolutely welcome if they fit the theme.

Breakfast for lunch

This theme is a crowd-pleaser. Swapping the usual sandwich platters for mini quiches, parfaits, egg bakes, or even waffles gives your team something they didn’t expect and didn’t know they needed.

It’s a smart move if your event is earlier in the day or tied to a company update. Want a shortcut? Create a grab-and-go bagel bar with spreads, lox, and toppings.

Family recipes

Skip the takeout containers. Ask people to bring a dish from their family cookbook. It could be their dad’s cornbread, a cousin’s chicken casserole, or their spin on a childhood comfort food. You’re not just getting good food; you’re getting personal meaning attached to it.

This makes an excellent theme for team retreats or internal milestones when you want to lean into connection and culture-building. Bonus: collect the recipes and create a digital cookbook afterward.

Healthy resolutions

Planning a January potluck? This is when people are watching their sugar, skipping gluten, or counting macros. Offer healthier work alternatives to make room for creativity. Encourage options like chicken Caesar salad, grain bowls, and light protein-rich sides.

The key here is to keep it real with flavorful, nourishing food options that people are excited to eat.

Tailgate feast

Everyone has a favorite game-day food, even if they’re not the biggest sports fans. Think pulled pork sliders, loaded baked potatoes, tater tot casserole, nachos, and hot wings. Add friendly competition with a “best bite” voting slip, and you’ve got built-in engagement.

Ideal for Fridays, post-launch celebrations, or days when high-energy team bonding is the goal.

What are some easy work potluck ideas?

Not everyone has time to cook a five-course meal for the office, and that’s perfectly fine. Some of the best dishes at a work potluck are the simplest ones. If you’re wondering what to bring to a work potluck, these options are reliable, low-effort, and always crowd favorites.

Macaroni and cheese. Make it fancy with breadcrumbs or keep it classic. Either way, it goes fast.

Fruit salad. Seasonal fruit adds color, flavor, texture, and a refreshing counter to heavier mains.

Veggie tray with dip. Buy pre-cut if needed. Just make sure the dip isn’t dull. Think ranch with fresh dill.

Chicken salad. Excellent in lettuce cups, on crackers, or straight off the spoon.

Cheese and cracker platter. A low-prep hit that always gets cleaned out by 1 p.m. Include a mix like brie with wheat thins or sharp cheddar with golden rounds.

It’s easy to make, easy to transport, and it disappears fast. Pair it with tortilla chips or celery sticks and you’ve got a crowd favorite with minimal effort.

Dense bean salad. Our CSR Impact Manager, Casey, loves bringing a hearty bean salad because it’s easy to prep ahead and doesn’t get soggy like other salad options. It holds up perfectly on a potluck table for hours.

These easy work potluck ideas are perfect for hybrid teams, last-minute invites, or events where participation matters more than presentation.

What hot food works best for a potluck at work?

If you’re organizing something more substantial, like a monthly celebration or all-hands event, hot food adds comfort and warmth to an office potluck. Bring a power strip and a few crockpots, and you’re in business.

Crockpot chili. Minimal prep, feeds a crowd, and it’s easy to make vegetarian or meat-based, spicy or mild.

Chicken Alfredo. Rich, filling, and reheats quickly.

Pulled pork sliders. Bring buns separately (Hawaiian rolls are a favorite) and let people build their own.

Loaded baked potatoes. Serve plain potatoes with a toppings bar: cheese, bacon bits, chives, and sour cream.

Tater tot casserole. A nostalgic Midwest favorite that will disappear fast.

Label allergens and ingredients clearly. Not everyone can do dairy, gluten, or spice. It shows you care, and it prevents awkward (or dangerous) situations.

What are the best cold potluck food ideas for work?

Need food that travels well, stores easily, and doesn’t require a heating plan? These cold options hold up beautifully without sacrificing flavor, making them among the most practical office potluck ideas.

Pasta salad. Go Mediterranean with olives and feta, or keep it classic and creamy.

Chicken Caesar salad. Make it a wrap option if you want something handheld.

Deviled eggs. This will be one of the first trays to empty at most potlucks.

Shrimp cocktail. Cold, elegant, and quick to prep with store-bought sauce.

Asian noodle salad. Use sesame oil, veggies, and a little chili crunch for flair.

These work especially well in warmer months or at outdoor team events when refrigeration is limited, but you have an ice-packed cooler on hand.

What are the best holiday work potluck ideas?

A lot of teams default to the same few staples during the holidays: turkey, stuffing, cookies. But a little creativity goes a long way when it comes to potluck themes for work around the holidays.

Christmas Jello salad. It’s quirky, colorful, and someone always loves it.

Turkey and cranberry sliders. Small enough to share, flavorful enough to be memorable.

Brussels sprouts with bacon. A hot dish that earns compliments.

Honey-glazed ham. Feels fancy, feeds a lot, and smells fantastic.

Vegetarian shepherd’s pie. Comfort food that includes everyone.

Whether it’s Christmas, Diwali, or the office Secret Santa lunch, holiday work potluck ideas give you a chance to reflect the season and your team’s diversity.
What desserts should you bring to an office potluck?

Desserts are the unofficial feedback system of any potluck. If the tray is empty before the meeting ends, you nailed it.

Mini cheesecakes. Grab-and-go desserts you can customize with toppings like strawberry glaze, blueberry compote, or hot fudge.

Cookie tray. A mix of store-bought and homemade works just fine. Last year, we did a cookie potluck at TeamBonding where everyone judged the best cookies. I brought cookies shaped like French Bulldogs because my dog Tilly is a Frenchie, and they were a huge hit.

Rice Krispies treats. Add a chocolate drizzle or a swirl of peanut butter if you’re feeling creative.

Lemon bars. Tart, sweet, and easy to prep the night before.

Parfait bar. Let people layer their yogurt, fruit, granola, and toppings.

Don’t overcomplicate dessert. You want high yield, low mess, and broad appeal.

How can you organize a workplace potluck that people love?

Knowing how to organize a workplace potluck is just as important as knowing what food to bring. A little upfront planning goes a long way toward making sure people show up, contribute, and have a good time.

Pick a theme. Give people a direction. Themed potlucks get more creative contributions and more buy-in.

Use a sign-up sheet. Whether it’s a shared Google Doc or a piece of paper in the break room, a sign-up sheet prevents the seven-bags-of-chips scenario.

Assign categories. Break it into apps, mains, sides, desserts, and drinks. That way, you get a balanced spread.

Set a date and time that works. A Friday lunch or a mid-week afternoon break tends to get the best turnout.

Consider dietary needs. Ask people to label ingredients and offer at least a few options for common dietary restrictions, such as vegetarian, gluten-free, or dairy-free.

Make it fun. Add a “best dish” vote, a recipe-sharing station, or a themed decoration contest.

The best office potluck is one where people feel included, not pressured. Keep the bar low for entry and the energy high.

What are other fun ways to bond over food at work?

If you want to take your office potluck ideas to the next level, consider turning food into a full team building experience. Here are a few of our favorite culinary team building activities at TeamBonding.

If you want to understand what real team unity feels like, watch the haka. There’s something unmistakable about a group of people moving, breathing, and shouting as one, a force that seems to come from somewhere deeper than rehearsal or choreography. That’s because it does. This ancient practice is one of the most powerful team building traditions in the world, and in this article, I’ll break down exactly why it works so well for professional teams.

My name is Karl Burrows. I’m a New Zealander of Maori descent and the founder of Haka Works, and I’ve been running haka team building workshops for more than fifteen years. What started as a way to share my culture has become something I genuinely believe is one of the most effective tools for building cohesion in professional teams. I’ll show you why.

What is the haka?

The haka is a traditional Maori dance form originating with the indigenous Maori people of New Zealand. Far more than a performance, it’s a living expression of culture, identity, and collective emotion. Traditionally, different types of haka served different purposes: some were war dances performed before battle, others celebrated births, welcoming ceremonies, or farewells to the deceased. Each carries its own words, its own story, and its own intention.

This practice engages the whole body: the stamping feet, the outstretched tongue, the wide eyes, the powerful voice. Every element has meaning. The meaning of haka is rooted in the idea of fully inhabiting the present moment and channeling that energy outward, toward the group and toward a shared purpose.

How has the haka evolved over time?

Originally, the Maori haka was performed exclusively within tribal contexts, a practice tied to land, ancestry, and communal identity. Over the centuries, it entered new contexts, gaining visibility on the world stage in the 20th century.

The most widely recognized version today is “Ka Mate,” performed by the All Blacks, New Zealand’s legendary rugby team, before every test match. For millions of viewers around the world, that haka experience introduced the practice as something both ancient and electric: a ritual of preparation that unites the team and connects them to their core purpose.

The New Zealand haka dance has since crossed borders in remarkable ways. Hollywood figures like Dwayne Johnson and Jason Momoa have embraced it publicly. American football players have performed it on the field. And increasingly, organizations around the world are discovering that the cultural significance of this tradition translates powerfully into the corporate environment.

The cultural significance of the haka

Understanding the cultural significance of the haka matters before we bring it into a business context. This isn’t a novelty or a party trick. It’s a sacred practice passed down through generations of Maori people. When performed with respect and intention, it’s an invitation to participate in something much larger than yourself.

That’s precisely what makes it so effective for team cohesion. It asks you to let go of self-consciousness and commit fully to the group. It asks you to be present, to trust the people beside you, and to contribute your voice and energy to a shared purpose. They’re exactly what high-performing teams are built on.

After a haka performance for IBM, an Executive Director from the company said:

“What you just did: the commitment, the unity, the energy. That’s exactly what I want from my team.”

So we asked ourselves: what is it about this that creates such strong unity? What builds the cohesion? What drives such commitment to shared purpose?

The answers led to a discovery: what creates unity in haka teams also creates unity in professional teams. We’ve broken it down into five key points.

5 ways the haka builds cohesion in professional teams

1. The haka is authenticity

To build an effective team, you need a culture of collaboration, and that means people have to set aside their egos. The ego says, this is me. This is who I am. No one messes with me. It’s fragile, defensive, and ultimately not real. It’s a protective layer we develop to create a sense of self in a complex world.

Authenticity recognizes this for what it is. It says: I’m not attached to this false idea of self. I’m open. I’m vulnerable. And behind that vulnerability is real strength: strength in humility, strength in compassion, strength in genuine connection with others.

When we haka, there is no room for ego. You give everything to the moment. You’re in flow. It’s a mindful, embodied practice that moves you out of your head and into your body, into the group, into the present. That shift from performance to presence is what allows real trust to form between team members.

2. The haka is energy

We all know the energy that comes from working in a connected team, where people share ideas freely, support each other, and build on each other’s momentum in a safe, open space. That’s the energy this practice is designed to generate.

“Haka” literally means “to ignite the breath” or “to fire the spirit.” Once you strip back the layers of ego and connect with your authentic self, you release energy. That energy reverberates through your body and voice. And then, here’s the important part: you share it. With the people beside you. With the audience watching. In a generous, open-hearted way.

That’s exactly what great team cooperation looks like in practice: people bringing their full energy and sharing it freely for the benefit of the whole.

3. The haka is the spirit of team

Unity starts with a mindset: putting others before yourself. In tribal societies, people worked collaboratively out of necessity. The group was the basic unit of survival, which created deep respect, loyalty, commitment, and selflessness.

Modern organizations haven’t changed as much as we’d like to think. The businesses that thrive are the ones where teams operate with tribal levels of trust and collaboration, agile enough to adapt, connected enough to move as one. This is a collaborative pursuit. You don’t haka alone. You move together, support each other, and show up for each other. That togetherness creates a synchronized energy that binds the group and gives rise to something you simply can’t manufacture any other way: genuine team spirit.

4. The haka is purpose

A compelling shared purpose galvanizes professional teams. When people are driven by something meaningful, they commit. They make sacrifices. They put the team before themselves and align their individual effort with a shared goal.

When we haka, we do it for a reason. It might be to celebrate, to welcome, to mourn, or simply to enjoy ourselves together. Without purpose, it becomes a show. The ego creeps back in. Energy scatters and dissipates. But when there’s a clear, shared purpose, haka channels all of that energy into a single, powerful expression, one that moves people in ways that a slideshow or a strategy memo never could.

5. The haka is bravery

What is bravery, really? It’s a calculated commitment to take your chances, and it’s essential in business and in life. Professional teams need a corporate culture that enables people to make bold decisions, commit to action, and accept the possibility of failure.

That culture is built from everything we’ve described:

Authenticity: Being humble, being open about the risks, and being honest about the possibility of failure

Energy: Creating an environment of trust where vulnerability is welcomed, and possibility is exciting

Spirit of team: Knowing you’re not doing it alone. You’re supported, seen, and moving forward together

Purpose: Being so committed to your ultimate goal that you’re willing to make personal sacrifices to achieve it

When all four of these elements come together, you get bravery. That’s when teams stop playing it safe and start doing remarkable things.

Experience the haka with your team

In our haka workshops, we ask participants to let go of ego, be authentic, and commit with a generosity of spirit. When you do, you connect to your authentic source of power. Sharing that energy with others creates unity. Focusing it on a shared goal turns that unity into momentum.

That’s how haka builds cohesion, and it’s why this ancient New Zealand dance has found a new home in boardrooms, conference centers, and corporate retreats around the world.

Ready to give your team a haka experience they won’t forget? Explore TeamBonding’s Haka Team Building program and see how it can transform the way your people show up for each other.

Whether you’re grinding through back-to-back meetings or quietly dreading Monday mornings, workplace wellbeing deserves your full attention. And yet, for most people, it stays at the bottom of the to-do list. According to Wellhub’s 2025 State of Work-Life Wellness Report, 89% of employees say they’ll only consider employers that prioritize their wellbeing when searching for a new role. That number tells you everything.

I’m Dane Robinson, facilitator at TeamBonding, former D1 football champion at the University at Buffalo, and NASM certified personal trainer. I’ve spent my career helping athletes and corporate teams perform at their absolute best, and I can tell you from experience: the fundamentals of peak performance are the same whether you’re on the field or in the office.

In this article, I’m sharing 11 practical, actionable health and wellness tips for the workplace that work for in-person, remote, and hybrid teams alike. These are the habits that move the needle on mental health, energy, and productivity, no matter where you work.

11 workplace wellbeing tips to boost health and performance

Let’s be clear: workplace wellbeing isn’t a nice-to-have. It’s the foundation everything else is built on. The Great Resignation showed us what happens when companies ignore it. So let’s make sure you’re not leaving these easy wins on the table.

1. Ask about a wellness program or stipend

If your company offers a wellness program or stipend, use it. If they don’t, advocate for one. Many modern companies now provide employees with an annual budget for wellness expenses. Here are a few examples of what you can put it toward:

Gym memberships

Workout equipment

Meditation apps

Ergonomic office furniture

Talk therapy

These programs incentivize employees to prioritize their mental and physical wellness. Companies with wellness stipends usually offer anywhere from $500 to $3,000 annually.

Staying healthy while working from home matters just as much as it does in the office, and plenty of these programs are designed with remote workers in mind. If yours doesn’t offer anything yet, bringing this idea to leadership is worth it.

2. Eat your lunch away from the computer

Here’s a play I run with every team I work with: step away from the desk at lunch. No exceptions.

Giving your brain a break from work is one of the simplest and most underrated wellness tips for employees. Taking mini breaks has repeatedly been shown to increase well-being and performance. Trust me, there’s a reason this is one of the most long-standing health and wellness tips for the workplace everywhere.

So next time you’re about to eat at your keyboard, get up and take your daily lunch break somewhere else. Try a quick walk outside, a few laughs with your favorite standup clip, or just a quiet view through the window. Pair this with tip three for extra benefits.

3. Get outside every day

According to Harvard Business Review, taking breaks to enjoy nature helps employees feel happier and more productive. Fresh air and sunlight do more for your focus and mood than most people give them credit for.

Here are a few wellness tips for the workplace that’ll help you get some outdoor time in:

Work from home? Take a short walk around the block, with or without the dog.

Lunchtime? Sit on a park bench and eat away from your screens.

Bad weather? Watch the rain from a window while you let your thoughts settle.

Consider asking your employer about outdoor workspaces so everyone can benefit from this simple workplace wellness tip. Or just grab a coworker and head outside together to double up on the social benefits.

4. Add some greenery to your workspace

This is one of those health and wellness tips for the workplace that’s as stylish as it is effective. Adding plants to your desk or office can reduce stress levels, improve productivity, increase comfort, and make a real difference in overall workplace wellbeing.

You don’t need a green thumb either. Here are some easy-care options to start with:

Spider plants

Snake plants

Peace lilies

Pothos

Jade plants

Air plants

Lucky bamboo

Not into plant care? Research shows that artificial plants deliver real mental and physical health benefits too. No excuses.

5. Try daily meditation

I know what you’re thinking: meditation isn’t exactly in the playbook for ex-football players. But hear me out. Numerous studies have proven that meditation offers significant mental and physical health benefits, from reducing tension and anxiety to giving your brain the full reset it needs to perform at its best.

Even two minutes at the start of your day can help you come into your work with a clear, focused mind. Try a meditation app, a guided YouTube session, or just a timer and your breath. Whatever works for you is the right answer.

For a team-wide option, TeamBonding’s Meditainment programs integrate seamlessly into meetings, helping everyone leave refreshed and recharged. It’s also a great moment to share your favorite wellness tips for employees with the whole group.

6. Get physical activity every day

As a NASM certified trainer who spent years competing at the collegiate and professional level, this one is non-negotiable for me. If the furthest walk of your day is from your desk to the kitchen, it’s time to make a change.

Harvard Health recommends at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day. And the research backs it up: physical activity boosts productivity, lowers blood pressure, improves mood, and adds years to your life. Here are some indoor options to get you moving:

Start your day with a 30-minute workout or dance session to spike your energy and mood.

Do a guided yoga video in the morning or evening to unwind.

Try laughter yoga for a fun, stress-busting workout you can do from anywhere.

Don’t forget to keep moving throughout the day, too. Quick stretches for your neck, shoulders, and back every hour go a long way. Stand up every 30 minutes, even if it’s just for a moment.

The key is finding movement you enjoy and can stick with. Athletes don’t train every day because they have to: they do it because they’ve built a system around it. The same principle applies at work. Start with one habit, be consistent, and build from there.

7. Listen to your favorite music

Listening to music at work is linked to better performance and higher employee satisfaction. As someone who has used music as a motivation and coaching tool for years, I can confirm: it’s a powerful team building tool hiding in plain sight.

The next time you’re running low on motivation, put on your favorite high-energy track and watch what happens. It can flip your entire mood in about three minutes flat.

Create a dedicated work playlist for different moods and tasks, and share it with your team to stay connected. It’s one of the easiest wellness tips for employees that also builds camaraderie in a low-effort way.

8. Socialize with coworkers

If you’re part of a remote or hybrid team, intentional connection is essential for workplace wellbeing. According to Summa Health, socializing reduces stress, boosts mood, improves quality of life and cognitive function, and lowers the risk of chronic disease.

Make a point to check in with your coworkers, whether that’s via a Zoom lunch, a virtual happy hour, or just a quick message to see how someone’s doing. Those small touchpoints add up faster than you’d expect.

Staying connected is one of the most underrated workplace wellness tips, especially in a remote world. And if your team rarely gets to spend time together in person, a shared team experience can do more for morale and connection than a dozen emails.

9. Set healthy boundaries to avoid burnout

Every champion knows when to call a timeout. Setting limits and maintaining healthy boundaries are among the most important wellness tips for the workplace. This is especially true for remote workers, who are at higher risk of burnout and have more difficulty separating work from rest.

Protecting your work-life balance means taking active steps to end the workday. Close the office door. Shut the computer down completely. Set your status to out of office and mean it.

If coworkers or managers aren’t respecting your boundaries, have a direct conversation. Communicate when you’re unavailable and hold that line. Nobody performs well without recovery time.

In football, overtraining is just as damaging as undertraining. The same logic applies here. Protecting your downtime isn’t weakness: it’s strategy.

10. Use all your vacation days

Vacation days aren’t a luxury; they’re a recovery tool. Every great team needs downtime to come back stronger, and so does every great employee.

Your PTO is there to help you decompress, reduce burnout, and come back sharper than you left. Make it a goal to use every vacation or PTO day you have. (And skip the quiet vacationing trap: being fully present on your time off matters for your mental health as much as taking the time itself.)

11. Focus on employee recognition

If you’re a manager or business owner, here’s something I’ve seen firsthand on teams of all kinds: people perform better when they feel seen. Recognition is one of the most direct levers you have for improving workplace wellbeing, and it costs a lot less than you might think.

Sharing wellness tips for the workplace is a great start, but genuine workplace wellbeing goes deeper than a checklist. Offering access to wellness resources and recognizing milestones with meaningful gestures keeps employee wellbeing front and center. Positive affirmations through milestone gifts or standout customer reviews are great ways to keep spirits high across the team.

To understand how your team prefers to be recognized, try sending out an employee recognition survey to shape your company’s reward and recognition approach.

Build a culture of workplace wellbeing starting today

These workplace wellness tips aren’t complicated. They’re the fundamentals, and the fundamentals always win. I’ve seen that truth play out on football fields, in fitness studios, and in corporate conference rooms.

Whether you’re a team member looking to take better care of yourself or a leader trying to build a healthier, more engaged team, start small and stay consistent. Pick two or three of these wellness tips for employees and commit to them for 30 days. Adjust your schedule, prioritize your well-being, and watch the results compound over time.
