‘Tis the season for spreading joy, building camaraderie, and showing gratitude to the coworkers who make every workday brighter.

Holiday gift-giving doesn’t have to be stressful or expensive. A thoughtful present that reflects appreciation can go a long way in strengthening workplace relationships. Whether your team is in the office, remote, or hybrid, these Christmas gift ideas for a colleague will help you find something meaningful, fun, and even conversation-starting.

Below, you’ll discover 80+ creative, trending, and practical coworker gift ideas organized by interest and lifestyle. Plus, we’ll share inspiration on how these gifts can double as morale boosters and tie into team building experiences.

Which Holiday Gift Route Are You Taking?

When it comes to holiday gifting in the workplace, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. The best gifts show thoughtfulness and reflect the recipient’s personality, whether that means fueling their foodie side, helping them stay organized, or sparking joy in their favorite hobby. Here are expanded categories with inspiration to fit every type of colleague.

Foodie-Friendly Gifts

Food has always been a universal love language, and it never fails during the holidays. Gourmet chocolates, artisanal popcorn blends, and festive cookie boxes bring instant cheer to any breakroom or Zoom call. If you want to go a step further, consider a subscription snack box that delivers new flavors each month: it’s the gift that keeps giving.

Coffee and tea gifts are especially popular because they provide daily joy. For the coffee enthusiast, a sampler of small-batch beans or a cold brew kit elevates their morning routine. For tea drinkers, a curated loose-leaf set with a steeping mug can turn any desk into a calming corner. Don’t forget to check for allergies or dietary preferences so every foodie can indulge without worry.

Looking for something more interactive? Pair food gifts with a culinary team building activity where colleagues can bond while learning new recipes and techniques. This transforms a simple treat into a shared experience.

Personalized Presents

Nothing feels more special than receiving a gift with your name (or even an inside joke) on it. Personalized mugs, engraved pens, or custom notebooks show that you went the extra mile. For frequent travelers, monogrammed luggage tags or passport holders combine function with flair.

Even simple items like water bottles, wireless chargers, or mousepads feel upgraded when personalized. This is a great way to make practical gifts more meaningful.

Company-branded swag can also be a win when it’s high-quality. Think travel mugs that actually keep coffee hot, cozy hoodies, or stylish tote bags. Employees love swag they’ll actually use, and it builds a sense of belonging outside the office too.

Desk & Office Accessories

No matter how long someone has been at their job, their desk could probably use a refresh. Desk organizers, smart notebooks, or noise-cancelling headphones keep workspaces tidy, professional, and functional. A small potted plant or succulent can also brighten up a cubicle while being low-maintenance.

For something a little more fun, quirky toppers like magnetic sculptures, puzzle paperweights, or mini desk games create conversation starters. These little touches often spark camaraderie when coworkers stop by.

Modern options also make life easier. Wireless charging trays, LED desk lamps with USB ports, and smart speakers that double as digital assistants bring a sleek, functional edge to office gifting.

Hobby-Driven Gifts

Hobby-based gifts show you really know your coworkers outside of work. If someone is always swapping recipes, gift them a unique spice kit or a cookbook from a trending chef. Fitness fans will love resistance bands, yoga mats, or hydration trackers that support their wellness goals.

Music lovers can enjoy portable Bluetooth speakers, vinyl albums, or gift cards to concerts. Gamers might appreciate streaming platform gift cards, while sports fans can be surprised with tickets to a local game.

For pet parents, custom portraits, holiday sweaters for their pets, or curated toy sets are guaranteed to bring a smile. These gifts demonstrate that you’ve listened to their stories and taken an interest in their personal passions.

DIY Gift Baskets

If you’re torn between multiple small gifts, combine them into a themed basket. Themed baskets are creative, thoughtful, and easy to personalize.

The Movie Buff Basket: A reusable popcorn bowl, gourmet kernels, a fuzzy blanket, and a streaming gift card.

The Wellness Basket: Essential oils, bath bombs, herbal teas, and a meditation journal.

The Bookworm Basket: A bestselling novel, cozy socks, a bookmark, and a clip-on reading light.

The Gardener Basket: A succulent starter kit, gloves, seeds, and a quirky watering can.

DIY baskets show time, effort, and creativity: qualities that coworkers always appreciate.

If you expect to accomplish anything in life, great communication skills are a top priority. Unfortunately, a lack of communication in the workplace is quite common.

There are many possible reasons why your office can’t seem to communicate effectively. It’s important to realize the issue and correct it because poor communication at work will only hurt your business. Read on to learn how to improve communication in the workplace.

4 Causes of Lack of Communication in the Workplace

The Issue: Lack of leadership

Poor leadership is a major cause of bad communication throughout an office. A leader is expected to have impeccable speaking and writing skills in order to properly manage the functions of a workplace. Lacking in this area of expertise can be detrimental to the communication levels, not to mention the overall health, of an organization. Employees often mirror their managers and leaders, and leaders that have poor communication skills will set the tone for a lack of communication in the workplace.

The Fix: Upskilling and leadership training

Upskilling, retaining employees and allowing them to build their skillset and work their way into leadership positions, is an important aspect of most businesses. Not only does it create amazing leaders that value those below them and communicate effectively, but it also saves your company money on recruitment and other operational costs.

Strong leaders will always have an open mind about learning and improving. That’s why it’s important to have leadership trainings in place to help your leaders improve their communication and leadership skills. Trainings like Leadership Stories can help managers kick their poor communication habits and start connecting more deeply with their employees.

The Issue: Undertrained employees

If employees do not have a full understanding of the work they’re doing, there’s bound to be problems. Make sure to take the right steps in bringing in new employees so that they will be on the same page as everyone else. You don’t want information going to the wrong places and you certainly want your message to be relayed accurately and in a timely manner. Keep in mind that undertraining employees can also, very quickly, lead to disengagement throughout an office.

The Fix: Prioritize ongoing training

An important first step here would be to remain adamant during the new hire training process to get your new employees off on the right foot. Bringing someone new to the team requires patience and once you’ve attained the desired level of communication, things can only go up from there! Try using gamification to spice up the hiring and onboarding process. Additional training down the road and retraining will also be essential to avoid a lack of communication at work. Look at ongoing training as an opportunity for your organization to be ever growing — not a setback.

The Issue: An unclear vision

Employees not knowing or understanding what needs to be accomplished will be a major roadblock for you and your organization. The whole idea of a team is to collaborate to reach a universal goal, and if you don’t have a clear company goal, your employees have nothing to work toward!

The Fix: Establish clear company core values

Express your organization’s mission statement and goals to employees as clearly as possible, and frequently! A full understanding of your company core values will free you both of any gray area on the subject. This is a perfect time to state what’s expected and clear up any questions.

The Issue: Disengagement

You couldn’t ask for a bigger problem than disengagement. This can be dangerous if not handled right away. It brings not only poor communication in the workplace but also a lack of effort put forth toward tasks. Prevalent disengagement can devastate any level of efficiency your office might have. However, it is an issue that can be solved.

The Fix: Engage with team building activities

Being continuously proactive with engagement strategies is key here. Team building exercises are a great help. Try: TeamBonding’s, Build-A-Boat program. A program such as this involves teams working together to accomplish a desired goal. This activity strengthens communication, boosts leadership and team spirit. When the activity concludes, get ready to take your new and improved skills back to the workplace. Plan these activities often to stay on top of your team building efforts.

1. Be Aware of How You Work

Just because you’re a team leader doesn’t mean you know what’s best for your team all the time! You need to know how you work before you can lead others so self-awareness is very important. Always try to evaluate yourself and make sure your techniques are effective for your team members. Realize when something needs to be changed and try to fix it right then and there so that your team will be as efficient as possible and on top of tasks at hand. It might be difficult at times but, hold yourself accountable for everything you do!

2. Get to Know the Rest of the Team

It’s critical to know who you’re leading. Everyone has different talents and capabilities and it’s important to know this so your team will work together successfully. Taking the time to get to know each of your team members shows your commitment and respect that you have for each individual. Healthy relationships with your team members will lead to an even stronger team as a whole.

3. Clearly Define Roles & Responsibilities

Often times the perfect role for a person lies outside their job description. It’s up to you to know this and be able to place people in the roles they will work best in. Much like a sports team, team members’ responsibilities must be dependent upon one another. This will ensure that tasks are always being completed and there are no gaps in the system.

4. Be Proactive with Feedback

Feedback is a very important aspect of being a team leader. You must always be giving feedback and not waiting for a problem to arise to do so. Giving the right feedback is what will keep everyone on the right track. Remember, every team is different and requires different styles of feedback. This ties into the previous step of getting to know your team well. If you know your team well your feedback should flow without any issues.

5. Acknowledge and Reward

Let your team know of a job well done. Recognizing your team’s success helps to build the team by giving them motivation. Individuals on the team want to be noticed for their hard work so take the time to do this to ensure a stronger team as each day passes. Reassurance is another thing your team will appreciate. When people are acknowledged for their efforts they become more passionate about the work they do. Just make sure you’re genuine when you make your acknowledgments! Always reward your team when necessary. This will without a doubt help in the long run, because who doesn’t like rewards?

6. Always Celebrate Success

Going beyond acknowledgment and rewards, celebrating success is another important part of being a great leader. This is a good time to take a step back and talk about the journey toward the big goal you have met. This will motivate team members to work even harder for the next task at hand. This will apply to major milestones for the company which will make the most important to follow through with. Celebrate the goal reached and most importantly celebrate how well your team works together.

In no time you’ll be the leader of a strong team and will be accomplishing goals left and right!

Do you have some pretty amazing employees that you’d hate to see leave? Do you know how to get them to stay? Employee retention should be a top priority, but it can be challenging for a company. It’s crucial to know what steps to take toward success. The more you know about the importance of employee retention, the better!

Since you don’t have full control over your employees, you cannot totally prevent them from leaving. It’s essential to the health of your organization for you to do what you can to reduce turnover. A low retention rate looks bad and becomes costly if it’s something that frequently occurs. Having a strategy to help employees stay put is going to keep your retention rates high and productivity levels higher.

You want great employees just as much as employees want the following:

Career development opportunities and a chance to grow in their chosen field.

Regular feedback on how they and the company are doing.

A chance to contribute directly to the organization and be recognized for doing so.

Flexible work schedules that recognize their need for work/life balance.

A good salary or wage and an opportunity to increase it over time.

Benefits tailored to their individual needs.

Take these actions to support good retention. Wondering why your employees are leaving? Cited are the top reasons employees find new jobs:

53% seek better compensation and benefits.

35% cited dissatisfaction with potential career development.

32% said they were ready for a new experience.

Strategies for employee retention

Hire who fits

During the hiring process, you have an opportunity to make a huge difference in retention rates. If you start off by hiring the right people, you’re bound to see those people stay for a longer period of time. Highly skilled, positive and friendly people are ideal candidates. Anything less can contribute to them leaving the company earlier than you’d like. Hire who fits your team the best.

Keep track

Retention rates should constantly be measured and tracked. If you aren’t keeping an eye on these rates how do you expect to see any kind of change? Focusing in on this data can prepare you for what steps should be taken next. You’ll be able to see who has been excelling and who might need some additional training. If you direct attention to what needs fixing, you’re a step closer to retaining your employees.

Give additional coaching

If you notice that managers are not giving their best performance at work, coach them! It’s often said that people quit a job because of a manager rather than the job itself. An easy fix to avoid this in the future is to start with a strong candidate and to then keep track of performance levels. Well trained managers are less likely to have negative feedback from employees. As long as you know where your managers stand, you’ll be able to step in and avoid further issues from arising.

Be accommodating

If you want your employees to stay, prove it to them. If you notice that retention rates are low, you may need to reconsider some things. Try re-evaluating what’s being offered to your employees. This includes enhancing benefits packages, fixing inflexible schedules and providing a path for growth within the company. Employees want opportunity and the potential for growth, within a company.

Communicate

Communication is key. You must be more than willing to have open lines of communication at all times so you have an idea about your employees thoughts on working for your company. Hold meetings and give feedback. Being in touch will give you the opportunity to talk to any employees who are having second thoughts about working for your company. You have a chance here to make some changes and prevent them from leaving.

It makes sense that an employee that stays with a company, grows within it and contributes to it accordingly. The longer you keep an employee the more knowledgeable about the company they’ll become and the more success your team will see.

There is a reason that breakfast is the most important meal of the day!

Breakfast kick starts your day and keeps you healthy. Team Breakfast keeps your team healthy, too! This program brings your team together to bond as a group while they learn about food preparation, cooking and dining together. The goal is to use food preparation and the gourmet meal that is produced, as an active and powerful metaphor. It takes steps to create a meal just as it takes steps to build a team. The end results are a delicious meal and a healthy hard working team.

To start, everyone starts out by washing their hands and putting on an apron. This is followed by a Team Breakfast trainer beginning with an orientation about the program including safety lessons and basic knife skills. Next, teams are formed and a team leader or “chef de cuisine” is chosen for each. Finally, everyone begins to create food masterpieces! When breakfast is ready everyone can eat what they have created together as a team and share laughs and things they’ve learned from this team building experience. This is a great time to talk about teamwork skills to take back to the workplace.

Start your day off right by making breakfast with your team! At this program, a healthy team depends on a healthy breakfast.

Check out this TeamBonding program that involves giving back to wildlife and communities in need.

Participate in the Beehive Building TeamBonding program and feel rejuvenated. You will be responsible for doing a great deed all while bonding with your co-workers. What better way to bond when you are reaching for the same goals? This innovative event allows your team to help out in a number of ways starting with building beehives to help alleviate CCD. Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) is a threatening condition that bees face and often lose much of their productivity and beehives. It’s a little known fact, but this is actually quite dangerous because one third of the food we eat depends on bees for pollination!

Teams will start with a scavenger hunt and will then move on to the beehives. You and your team will be working to construct beehive frames that will help with the loss that colonies of bees currently endure. Once you have built the new beehive frames, you will then be donating them to communities in need. In the United States-Mexico border community of Mexicali, there is a women’s cooperative that uses beekeeping as a way to generate income. The women of Mexicali use the beehives to produce and sell hand & facial creams, beeswax candles, honey-flavored baked goods, healing salves, bee pollen and more. This can dramatically change the lives of people in this community!

Build beehives, teams, and communities all with one amazing event. Instill positivity in your team and promote giving back at this worthwhile team building experience!

Drum up some fun for your team with this great TeamBonding program!

The Drumming Up a Team program focuses on energizing and motivating your company’s team. There are many benefits to drumming because it is an age-old, universally-practiced community/team building activity. This program has been proven to lower stress and heighten employee satisfaction, loyalty and productivity levels!

To get the program started, groups will get together in teams or as a whole and choose which instruments they want to feature in their song. Next, they’ll create synchronized music that demonstrates why it is so important to work well with your team. Everyone in the group must communicate with others in order to get the percussion sound on key. See if you can get everyone’s feet tapping! In addition to the main instrument that will be used, drums, other percussion instruments will be available such as maracas and tambourines. These instruments will be used by everyone in the group to make a harmonious sound. Small instruments will be given to team members as a token to remember your TeamBonding event. They can have your company logo imprinted on it if desired so you can take your playing skills back to the office.

This program is completely customizable and the options are endless. You can participate in this program for anywhere from 15 to 180 minutes and for all different occasions. You can use this as an energizing opening or closing activity for corporate events, conferences or retreats, or you can create a percussion band and carry this program out for multiple days. Whatever the case, make sure to participate and see just how powerful music can be in strengthening and motivating your company’s team.

Find out what your company’s percussion group will sound like at this program while relieving stress and gaining motivation and drive with your team.
