I’ve been leading team building events for a long time now, and I keep coming back to trivia. Not because of the questions themselves, but because of what happens in the room when people start playing together.

Workplace trivia questions and answers give your team a shared challenge. For a few minutes, people stop thinking about email and deadlines. They lean in, argue (nicely) about who’s right, high-five a win, and laugh off a miss. That energy is what I’m always trying to create.

In this article, I want to show you how to use workplace trivia questions in a way that actually supports your culture, not just fills time. I’ll walk through why trivia works, how to use it in meetings, how to think about themes, and how company trivia questions can help people feel more connected to the work you do.

If you’re an HR leader, manager, or founder looking for simple ways to bring people together, trivia is one of the easiest tools you can keep in your back pocket.

Why trivia works so well at work

Trivia works because it’s low-risk and high-engagement.

You’re not asking people to share something vulnerable or give a polished answer. You’re asking them to react to a question. That external focus makes it easier for quieter people to join in while still giving your outgoing folks room to shine.

I’ve watched workplace trivia questions and answers shift a group of strangers into a team in minutes. People walk in guarded. A few questions later, they’re leaning over the table, trading guesses, and cheering when someone pulls a wild fact out of nowhere.

There’s also a bit of healthy pressure. There’s a clock and a score. There’s something at stake, even if it’s just friendly bragging rights. That little jolt of competition, when you manage it well, turns a routine meeting into something people actually remember.

Take your workplace trivia a step further with our Corporate Feud game show!

Simple ways to use trivia questions for work meetings

You don’t need a full game show to use trivia at work. Some of my favorite moments have come from a single, well-timed question.

Here are a few easy ways to bring trivia questions for work meetings into your routine:

Start staff meetings with one quick question

Use a short round of trivia questions for teams as a warm-up before strategy or training

Close a long day with a fun trivia segment instead of more slides

Run a weekly “trivia of the day” in Slack or Teams

Build a short trivia round into all-hands meetings to bring departments together

The key is consistency. When trivia shows up regularly, it stops feeling like a random add-on and starts feeling like a natural part of your culture.

If your team is remote or hybrid, trivia fits nicely alongside other virtual team building activities. A five- or ten-minute round can restore energy to a video call, just as a longer virtual event can.

Choosing the right trivia themes

Over time, I’ve found that the best work trivia questions fit into a few core themes. You don’t need to use all of them. Pick what fits your goals.

Company and industry trivia

This is where I usually start. Company trivia questions reinforce the story you want people to know and repeat.

You might build questions around:

Key milestones in your company’s history

Your mission, values, or purpose

Flagship products or services

Big wins, awards, or customer impact stories

Interesting facts about your industry or market

When people nail these, they’re not just “right.” They’re showing shared knowledge and pride in what you do.

Staff trivia questions that are about your people

Personal trivia questions help people see one another as people, not just roles. You can collect fun facts through a quick survey, then turn them into questions like:

Who on our team once worked as a [job]?

Who speaks three languages?

Who has been with the company the longest?

I love watching the moment when someone realizes they have something unexpected in common with a coworker they barely knew.

Broader themes you can layer in

Once you have your company and staff trivia set, you can mix in broader themes to keep things fresh:

Locations where you have offices or customers

The history of your field or technology

Seasonal topics like year-end highlights or “this year in review”

Light pop culture or general knowledge that doesn’t require niche expertise

The goal isn’t to chase every set of fun trivia topics for work. It’s to build themes that make people say, “This feels like us.”

Writing strong company trivia questions and answers

You don’t have to be a writer to create good company trivia. You just need to be clear on what you want people to walk away with.

I usually start by asking myself three things:

What do I want people to remember after this round?

How challenging should it feel for this group?

Is the question phrased clearly so there’s no confusion?

From there, you can build questions like:

In what year did our company launch its first product?

Which of these values appears in our official company values?

How many countries are our clients or customers based in today?

Which department won last year’s internal award or challenge?

You can turn some into multiple-choice questions if you want to make your work trivia questions more approachable, especially for new hires.

I also like including a few “teaching” questions that introduce new information:

What percentage of our revenue last year came from new products or services?

Which of these causes did we support through volunteering or donations this year?

Those questions do double duty. They make the game more interesting and help you share updates about impact, strategy, or growth in a more engaging way.

Setting up teams and roles

Small groups usually work best. Teams of four to six people are large enough to include diverse perspectives but small enough that everyone can be heard. You can mix departments, locations, and seniority levels so people connect across the usual boundaries.

A few simple roles help things run smoothly:

A captain who shares the final answer

A scribe who writes or types answers

A timekeeper who keeps an eye on the clock

In virtual settings, breakout rooms are your best friend. Send each team into a room with the same question or round, then bring everyone back together to reveal answers and scores. It’s a simple format that works well for trivia questions in larger online meetings.

And as you design your workplace trivia questions and answers, it’s worth checking for inclusion. Mix easier and harder questions. Avoid topics that only one small group would know. Keep it fun, not stressful.

When it makes sense to host a full trivia event

Sometimes, a quick trivia question at the top of a meeting is all you need. Other times, you want something bigger: a shared experience with real structure, energy, and production value.

That’s when a dedicated trivia program really makes sense. If you’re trying to bring multiple departments together, celebrate a milestone, kick off a retreat, or re-energize a remote team, a full event gives you a live host, thoughtful pacing, and a format that keeps everyone engaged from start to finish.

You can also think beyond a single trivia game. Trivia works beautifully alongside other game show-style programs and virtual team building events when you want a full day or series. Mixing formats lets different personalities shine in different ways.

As a facilitator, I love seeing people surprise themselves at these events. The person who swears they “hate games” ends up shouting answers. The senior leader who’s usually in control steps back and lets others take the lead. Those moments stick around.

Bringing trivia into your workplace

Ready to move beyond DIY trivia questions for work and give your team a full experience?

For in-person and hybrid groups, Corporate Quiz Bowl is our live, game-show-style trivia event. Teams compete through multiple themed rounds featuring customized company content and interactive scoring.

For remote and fully distributed teams, Almost Anything Goes Trivia is our virtual trivia experience built for online groups. We combine a wide range of topics with professional hosting to keep people engaged on-screen, whether you have ten people or hundreds.

Both events can be tailored with your own company trivia questions, industry content, and inside jokes. Your trivia questions will feel uniquely yours, not something pulled off a shelf.

And if you decide you want to go beyond trivia altogether, we’ve got plenty of other fun programs, too! Whatever direction you choose, we’ll help you design an experience that fits your team, your goals, and your culture.

After over 21 years of facilitating team building events across North America, I’ve had the privilege of working in some incredible conference venues.

When Cvent released their 2025 rankings of top meeting destinations and hotels, I couldn’t help but smile—I’ve personally facilitated events at seven of the top 10 hotels on their list.

In this article, I’ll share my insider perspective on these exceptional conference venues and what makes them special for hosting memorable corporate events. I’ll also highlight the best cities for conferences and corporate meetings to give you even more options.

The Power of Conference Venues & Locations

Choosing the perfect conference venue and location isn’t just about finding a space that fits your group—it’s about discovering a space and city that will breathe life into your event experience.

The Best Conference Locations

The destination for your conference can make all the difference in the world. Trust me, a walkable, well-designed city with booming business, diverse people, and beautiful scenery makes a world of difference for meetings and team building events.

These are the traits that the best event planners are looking for when they help a Fortune 500 plan a retreat, conference, or event that people are going to be talking about for years to come.

They’re also looking for cities that check these boxes:

World-renowned theme parks

Unique corporate meeting venues

Lots of hotels to choose from

Options ranging from luxury to budget

Spacious convention centers

Good weather

An abundance of activities

The Best Meeting Venues

After facilitating over 1,000 game shows and countless team building sessions, I’ve realized that the best conference venues are those where the staff is eager to collaborate with you. The venues that make Cvent’s list understand this truth.

They know that successful meetings aren’t just about beautiful ballrooms and cutting-edge tech—though those do matter. They’re about creating environments where teams can connect, collaborate, and leave feeling inspired.

If you don’t have your pick of venues, my advice would be this: always pick a venue that wants to work with you, as opposed to a venue that just treats you like you’re a problem or not their most important client. You want a place that treats you like a celebrity.

I’d also suggest following the lead of today’s top event planners and looking for a venue that checks these boxes:

Stylish and inviting atmosphere

Spacious and flexible event rooms

A variety of options (e.g., ballrooms, meeting rooms, outdoor venues, etc.)

Great catering team

Exceptional service

Advanced technology and good equipment

Walkable downtown or central location

Cvent’s Top 10 Meeting Destinations for 2025

Based on over $18 billion in global sourcing and RFP activity through Cvent’s platforms, the top meeting destinations for 2025 reflect where planners are actually booking their most important events.

If you’re not sure it’s worth it, look at it this way: these are the locations your competitors are eyeing to ensure their next event is a smash hit.

The Complete Top 10 List

The US capital is shining this year, and it’s ideal for hosting events of historic proportions.

Phoenix, AZ: Desert beauty meets world-class conference facilities, including a newly renovated ultra-modern convention center.

These cities are major business hubs with established and growing reputations in the meetings industry. They offer perfect blends of accessibility, culture, and hospitality that’ll make every event feel special.

Cvent’s Top 10 Meeting Venues: Where Excellence Meets Experience

Nashville secured the top four venues on the list.

The thing that stands out to me the most about this year’s hotel rankings is how Nashville completely dominates the top four spots. Yes, really—all four of Cvent’s top hotels are located in Nashville, TN!

This brought a big smile to my face since Nashville is one of my favorite cities. Anytime I get the chance to go to Nashville, I’m game!

It has great accessibility and accommodations, and after facilitating multiple events in Music City, I can tell you this recognition is well-deserved.

The Complete Top 10 List

Here are the 10 best conference venues around the country according to Cvent’s prestigious list:

Renaissance Nashville Hotel, Nashville, TN

JW Marriott Nashville, Nashville, TN

Grand Hyatt Nashville, Nashville, TN

Omni Nashville Hotel, Nashville, TN

JW Marriott Austin, Austin, TX

Fairmont Austin, Austin, TX

The Venetian Resort Las Vegas, Las Vegas, NV

Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, Scottsdale, AZ

The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa, Scottsdale, AZ

JW Marriott Orlando, Grande Lakes, Orlando, FL

Each of these conference venues on Cvent’s top 10 list share one crucial characteristic: they treat facilitators and event planners as partners, not vendors. They understand that when we succeed, they succeed, so they go beyond basic accommodation.

These hotels all have a proven track record of swift RFP responses, too, prioritizing collaboration and offering curated group experiences. In my experience, this extends far beyond initial booking, maintaining a high level of service throughout the event process.

My Personal Experiences at These Elite Venues

I’ve been to countless business conference venues, many of which make up Cvent’s top 10 for 2025, so I can’t wrap up this guide without sharing some of my experiences! Here are some of the highlights:

Nashville: Where Music Meets Exceptional Meetings

Nashville has become one of my all-time favorite cities, and after seeing Nashville hotels claim the top four spots, I know I’m not alone in that sentiment.

I’ve had the pleasure of facilitating events at both the Omni Nashville and the Renaissance Nashville, and the experience at each was phenomenal.

Omni Nashville Hotel

I facilitated a custom team building event here where participants created musical instruments and wrote company-themed songs. We finished by packing up the instruments and donating them to children’s charities around Nashville.

The staff was great and super attentive to our needs, and they made sure everyone could just relax and have fun with what we were doing. They’re one of the reasons that this is among my favorite event memories.

Renaissance Nashville

This place has consistently impressed me with their partnership approach. The staff isn’t on autopilot—they’re not just providing a space—they’re actively collaborating to make each event successful.

Whether it’s helping flip rooms between sessions or providing flexibility for custom team building events, they understand that great events require a hands-on, attentive approach.

Austin: Where Innovation Meets Southern Hospitality

Texas, and Austin in particular, are up there on my list of favorite destinations. I’ve been to both Austin conference venues in Cvent’s top 10, and they’re truly exceptional.

Austin’s energy is infectious, and these hotels really help capture that spirit.

JW Marriott Austin

I’ve facilitated multiple events here, and many of them incorporated local Austin themes. One of my favorites was a Price Is Right-style event called “C’mon Down” (everyone knows I love a good game show team building event).

We had questions about local food—like guessing the price for authentic Austin barbecue to feed a group of 20—and a bunch of other regional-themed categories.

JW Marriott’s flexibility helped us make this a true experience and connect the participants to the location in a unique and engaging way. They always seem to go above and beyond.

Fairmont Austin

The Fairmont Austin has been a consistent partner for our “Tools for Schools” charity programs and high-energy “In It to Win It” events.

Their staff understands the logistics of large-scale, involved events like these and always helps with everything from providing space to pre-sort donated items to coordinating with local organizations for each pickup.

During one Tools for Schools event, we set up stores with school supplies for over 100 backpacks, and the venue team helped us execute a seamless room flip in just 20 minutes. Now that’s what I’m talking about!

Ready To Tap Into TeamBonding’s Nationwide Network?

While these Cvent-recognized venues represent some of the absolute best conference locations in the U.S., they’re just a sampling of the incredible venues we work with nationwide.

At TeamBonding, we’ve built relationships with preferred venues across the country—places where we know the staff, have an extensive network of partners, and can deliver exceptional experiences for your team.

That said, we’re not limited to our preferred venue network. We’re happy to bring our programs anywhere in the country where your team needs to gather.

The venues on Cvent’s 2025 list have earned their recognition through consistent excellence, but remember—the best conference venues for your team are the ones that align with your goals, budget, and vision.

Do your employees arrive at work carrying deadlines, emails, and the usual workday stress? I have spent more than fifteen years turning groups of colleagues into high-performing, fun-having teams, and nothing sparks transformation and boosts morale like a well-crafted lineup of game show ideas.

Some workplace crews trudge into a team building event like they don’t want to be there. However, fifteen minutes later, the entire room buzzes with laughter, inside jokes, and an energy that you’d wish you could bottle for rainy days. That energetic feeling is why I rely on game show games as a go-to tool for building workplace culture, developing leadership within a business, and boosting morale.

Teams won’t grow by enduring another slide deck, but they can flourish when they share memorable moments, lighthearted competition, and collective wins. Every team building activity below blends approachable challenges with intentional design, so participants forget they are team building at all. They play, connect, and carry those deeper bonds back to the office.

The best game shows for your workplace

Before diving into each title, let’s set the stage. A great game show team building experience meets three criteria:

Inclusive mechanics. Every participant, from the new intern to senior leadership, should see a clear path to contribute. That inclusivity turns hesitant bystanders into engaged teammates.

Meaningful pressure. The task should feel challenging enough to create excitement without tipping into anxiety. Good design keeps adrenaline high and stress low.

Purposeful reflection. A quick debrief ties gameplay moments to workplace lessons. When people connect a hilarious buzzer-beater with innovative collaboration back at their desks, magic happens.

Keep those guardrails in mind, pick one (or all) of the following game show events, and watch your team come to life.

The following are my favorite eleven game show ideas adapted for workplaces of every size and caliber, plus a special appearance from our Shark Tank event. Whether you need fresh quiz show ideas for a hybrid sales kickoff or extra-spirited team game shows for an annual team bonding retreat, you’ll find the perfect fit here.

For those who’d like to hear more of my thoughts about the process, check out our podcast episode where I talk about how game shows can build team leadership.

1. Jeopardy

Jeopardy is one of those games that instantly brings out people’s competitive side, even the ones who swear they’re never competitive. In our team version, we mix it up. Sure, you may have a question about world capitals, but we’re also throwing in company trivia, pop culture references, inside jokes, and random stuff to make your teammates chuckle. Think “Weird Things Found in the Break Room” or “Guess the Coworker Based on One Fact.”

It’s three players at a time, buzzer in hand, trying to beat the others to the correct answer. There’s something addictive about watching people light up when they realize they know something useful (or hilarious). And the best part is that everyone watching is as engaged as the people playing.

This works great in person or virtually. We run the whole thing—custom board, host, tech, the works. All you have to do is show up, and maybe brush up on your random facts.

2. In It to Win It

Do you know all those weird little games you see on reality shows? The ones where someone has to stack cups in 60 seconds or bounce ping pong balls into a jar? That’s In It to Win It, and it never gets old.

Bring a bunch of random office supplies, like rubber bands, paper clips, and breakroom coffee cups, and turn them into fast-paced challenges that teams try to beat in under a minute. The energy is inspiring, going from “hmm” to competitive in five seconds. Suddenly, Janet from accounting is a legend for balancing five pencils on her nose.

What’s great about this one is that everyone gets involved. You don’t have to be sporty or extroverted—just willing to try. And because the tasks are silly, there’s zero pressure. It’s pure fun, with lots of laughter and high-fives. Additionally, while this game show idea is fantastic for in-person team building events, we can supply a list so remote folks can play from home.

3. Win, Lose or Draw

If you’ve ever played Pictionary with a group of friends, you already know how this goes, but it’s funnier at work. Win, Lose or Draw is the game where one person tries to draw a phrase on a whiteboard (or shared screen) while their teammates shout out wild guesses that somehow get further from the answer.

The best part? You don’t have to be artsy or know how to draw well. In fact, the worse you are at drawing, the better. Stick figures, confusing arrows, random blobs—it all works. And when someone finally gets the answer, the room explodes with cheers. I’ve seen entire teams doubled over laughing because someone tried to draw a zebra and it ended up looking like a striped mailbox.

Keep the topics light and ridiculous, or you can customize them to include office stuff, inside jokes, or industry terms. All you need is a marker and a sense of humor.

Side note: Here’s an episode of the original game show from the ‘80s for anyone curious.

4. Corporate Feud

Corporate Feud… this game is a crowd-pleaser!

Beyond the laughs, it’s a great quiz show idea for developing social connections and communication skills. And it’s as simple as having two groups compete against each other to test their knowledge of random survey answers.

Instead of asking random trivia questions, we ask survey-style questions that are fun to answer, like “What’s the most annoying thing coworkers do on Zoom?” or “What’s a snack that disappears from the break room first?”

Two teams face off to guess the top answers, and the best part is watching people argue passionately over whether “micromanaging” should be the number one answer or if “loud chewing” is worse.

There’s a team vibe to this team building game show. People get loud, throw out ridiculous guesses, and scream for joy when they see their answer on the board. And the fast money round is pure chaos in the best way.

5. Name That Tune

Suppose your team has even one person who lights up when the first two seconds of a song play, you’re going to love Name That Tune. This game turns your meeting into a full-on music showdown. Play a short clip, sometimes just a beat, and players try to name the song or artist before anyone else can.

There’s always someone who surprises you by knowing every ’90s boy band hit or classic rock song from the ’70s. And nothing bonds people faster than belting out lyrics to the same chorus, or arguing over whether that singer was Beyoncé or Rihanna.

Keep it all music or mix it with trivia to become Wild Card Bingo. Picture filling in a bingo card every time you hear a theme song, office anthem, or artist that your coworker’s obsessed with. Whether you’re virtual or in-person, this one’s a favorite, regardless of whether you consider yourself a music expert or not.

6. Survivor

This is Survivor with fewer islands and more teamwork. Corporate Survivor throws your team into group challenges that are part mental, part physical, and downright ridiculous (in the best ways). You’re not trying to outwit or outlast anyone; you’re working together to win as a team.

We’ve got obstacle courses made of office chairs, puzzle challenges that make you question life choices, and tasks that seem simple until the clock starts ticking and everyone forgets how to count to ten. The beauty of this game is that it shows people’s true strengths, like who’s great at solving problems, who can rally the group, and who’s the stealth genius no one saw coming.

What makes it work? There’s no voting people off the island. Everyone stays in the game, and everyone contributes. Whether your team is strategic or loves being silly and competitive, this team building game show idea brings out the best in your workplace crew.

7. Chopped

If you’ve watched Chopped on TV and thought “I could do that,” this is your chance.

Each team gets a box of random ingredients, like tortilla chips, canned peaches, and hot sauce, and has to whip up something edible, maybe delicious, and creative. It’s not about being a professional chef; it’s about working together, thinking fast, and making the best of what you’ve got.

Sometimes the food turns out phenomenal. Other times it’s a disaster. Either way, people love it, and all have a great time. And, if you’re doing this virtually, ship ingredient kits and run the whole event over Zoom.

Check out our Team Cuisine program for inspiration!

8. The Price is Right

You don’t realize how tricky it is to guess the price of something until you’re put on the spot, and that’s where the fun begins. The Price is Right is part nostalgia, part chaos, and one hundred percent hilarity.

Show everyday items (and some ridiculous ones) and ask contestants to guess the cost without going over. One minute, it’s a Bluetooth speaker, and the next, it’s a luxury dog bed shaped like a miniature sofa. Watching someone confidently shout, “$600!” only to find out it’s 30 bucks? Comedy gold!

This game isn’t just guessing; it’s full of over-the-top moments, fake game show drama, and friendly, competitive trash talk. We can even add a give-back twist. In our Play It Forward version, points can be turned into donations for a local charitable cause, which gets everyone fired up for a good reason.

Looking for more ideas? C’mon Down and Foodbank Showdown are two more of our fun game show ideas that draw inspiration from The Price is Right!

9. Common Knowledge

Common Knowledge seems easy until your entire team starts second-guessing what direction the sun rises or how many cups are in a gallon. The questions feel simple, but that’s precisely what makes this game fun. Everyone thinks they know the answer until the room goes quiet and someone whispers a guess that throws everyone off track.

Here’s where it gets interesting. Your team scores the most points when everyone chooses the same answer. So, it’s not just about being right, it’s about thinking together. That means even if you know the correct answer, you still have to guess what your team will pick. Suddenly, you’re playing a mix of trivia and mind reading, and it gets chaotic in the best way.

You’ll argue over basic facts, laugh at wildly confident guesses, and learn surprising things about how your coworkers think. It’s especially fun to see who takes the lead, who second-guesses everything, and who just quietly locks in and hopes for the best.

This game is excellent for team alignment and decision-making without any of the pressure of traditional trivia. It’s fast, funny, and full of those moments where everyone realizes they were wrong together, and somehow that makes it even better.

Try our variation: The Corporate Quiz Bowl. Or, if you want something virtual, I love Almost Anything Goes!

10. Lip Sync Battle

Lip Sync Battle is where people stop being coworkers and start being absolute icons. One minute you’re in a team meeting, the next you’re watching your office manager do a whole choreographed routine to a pop anthem with backup dancers and a blow-up guitar. It is ridiculous, and it is incredible.

Teams pick a song, plan their moves, and put on a show. Some go full glam with wigs and sunglasses. Others take the comedy route with exaggerated dance moves and unexpected song choices. It’s not about who can sing best. It’s about who can sell it. And once people start performing, even the most buttoned-up folks usually end up clapping along or getting pulled into the fun.

It is the perfect way to tear down walls and remind people that yes, it is acceptable to air guitar in front of your coworkers. You might cringe. You might cry laughing. But no one forgets it.

11. Wheel of Fortune

Wheel of Fortune never gets old. There’s something about spinning that giant wheel and watching it click slowly toward your fate that makes even the calmest person lean forward in suspense.

Puzzles are customized with company names, funny sayings, or themes your group cares about. One round might be full of inside jokes. Another might test your office’s knowledge of random facts. Guessing letters feels simple until the pressure sets in and someone confidently calls out a letter that already appeared twice.

There’s a sweet mix of luck and logic here. You need to solve the phrase, but you also need to manage risk. Do you spin again or play it safe? Should you buy a vowel or hope someone else messes up? It becomes part strategy, part spectacle, and 100 percent fun to watch.

Spin to Win is our version! We bring everything—wheel, puzzles, host—and can run it in person or online. It’s a great way to involve a mix of personalities, because it rewards both brainy types and bold decision makers. People walk away smiling and quoting each other’s guesses for days.

We also offer a virtual version!

Bonus: The Shark Tank Team Building Event

In our Shark Tank Team Building Event, groups work together to invent something new. It could be a product your company could sell, a feature that fixes a real-life work problem, or even a marketing campaign for something made up. Once the concept is ready, each team presents their pitch to a panel of Sharks, made up of leadership, guest judges, or our expert facilitators. We even throw in some AI tools to help spark ideas and boost creativity during the prep phase.

The pitches can be funny, serious, over-the-top, or surprisingly clever, and the best part is watching your coworkers try to sell the heck out of whatever they came up with. We use a live voting system, so everyone gets to weigh in, and no one sits on the sidelines.

This is the kind of event that pulls people out of their usual roles and into a different mindset. It’s high energy, full of surprises, and might inspire a real solution worth bringing to life.

Revamp workplace potential with game show challenges

Work feels different when people are having fun together. Not forced fun, not the kind where someone hands you a sticky name tag and tells you to “network,” but real fun; the kind that makes people laugh until their faces hurt and high-five coworkers they just met that morning. That is precisely what these game show challenges do.

They break up the routine and give people a reason to let their guard down. Teams stop acting like departments and start acting like people. You see leadership pop up in unexpected places. You hear ideas from someone who usually stays quiet. You learn that Carol from HR is oddly good at stacking marshmallows while blindfolded.

These games work because they tap into what builds a team: shared experiences, goofy moments, inside jokes, and a chance to work together without the usual pressure. Whether your goal is better communication, deeper trust, or to shake things up after a long quarter, a game show challenge gives your people the space to connect.

And when people connect, they collaborate better, they care more, and they stick around longer. It’s not magic. It just works.

What’s next?

So now that you’ve seen what’s possible, the question is simple—what kind of team experience do you want to create?

You know your team better than anyone. You know what they need more of, what’s missing, and what would get them excited. Maybe it’s a fast-paced trivia battle to break the ice. Perhaps it’s a lip sync face-off to bring the energy. Maybe it’s a feel-good, give-back Price is Right game that ends in donations to a local cause.

All it takes is a little time, a little planning, and a whole lot of enthusiasm. We’ll bring the buzzers, the music, the games, and the laughs. You get your team, and we’ll help them remember why they love working together.

Ready to make something extraordinary happen? Let’s go. Contact us today or browse all of our team building game shows to get started!

Team building events are some of the most memorable experiences teams can share. It’s something I’ve personally witnessed time and time again—teams laughing, learning, bonding, and creating memories together.

As an event facilitator at TeamBonding, I’ve become incredibly passionate about my role in creating moments of togetherness and growth. I’ve been in this role for over 20 years, and I’ve worked all the way up to Director of Facilitator Training!

Of course, I’m just one of many professionals at TeamBonding who truly embody what it means to be an event facilitator.

We have a full team of talented and hardworking facilitators who put on incredible events every day, and each one has a positive impact on the lives of participants.

Today, I’d like to provide some insight into what team building facilitators do!

What Is a Facilitator? Meaning of the Role

When I tell someone I’m a facilitator, I’ll often get a quizzical look and a few questions. Team building facilitation isn’t the most common of careers, after all. So let’s start there: what is a facilitator?

Generally speaking, a facilitator is someone who runs an event, ensuring activities run smoothly and everyone has a good time.

That second part, making sure everyone has a good time, is the primary focus for team building facilitators. It’s all about the power of play and connection, which is why I like to describe facilitating events as getting adults to play nicely in the sandbox.

The shared experience of the participants is where the magic happens. These experiences foster things like:

Togetherness: Team experiences foster a sense of connection and encourage bonding between colleagues.

Trust Building: Shared activities help create trust between team members in a natural, low-pressure setting.

Communication: Participants learn to listen, share ideas, and collaborate more effectively.

Morale Boosts: Positive, fun, and natural experiences boost energy and enthusiasm, which is carried back to the workplace.

Empathy & Understanding: Playful or reflective interactions can help coworkers better understand one another’s strengths, challenges, and personalities.

All that’s to say that my job as a team building facilitator is to engage participants in a shared learning experience that helps them bond, learn, and see their coworkers in a different light.

Why I Love Being a Team Building Facilitator

A few of our amazing facilitators before a TeamBonding event!

Every time I organize an event, I need to ensure that the participants are engaging in the event, working together, and having fun! After years spent facilitating events, I’ve only become more passionate about it.

I’ve seen the impact these events have on people, especially when they’re perfectly planned, and it brings a smile to my face to see team members engaging in new ways.

Some of my favorite programs to facilitate are charity events. With programs like Play it Forward and Just Roll With It, I get to be a part of something bigger alongside teams while we give back to those in need.

I also love facilitating game shows! While Corporate Feud may not have the same impact on the community as a charity event, seeing 200 people laughing and having a blast definitely feeds a part of my soul.

To me, event facilitation is really about bringing everything you can to an event to provide an engaging and memorable experience for the participants.

It’s not about my experience—it’s about the participants, their experiences, and what they want to get out of the event.

Corporate Feud is one of my favorite events to facilitate.

The TeamBonding Facilitation Process

Being a team building facilitator might sound simple, but there’s so much that goes into it before the participants even show up at the event.

That said, whether it’s charity team building, game shows, or group events, the basic steps are almost always the same.

Here’s a zoomed-out view of what it looks like:

1. Preparation

The first step in facilitating an event is preparation. This step accounts for a large chunk of the entire process. Sure, the event is the fun part, but most of my time is spent getting everything ready so the event goes off without a hitch.

As a TeamBonding facilitator, I consider numerous factors and make extensive preparations beforehand. Facilitators must consider aspects that may not occur to the participants or the leaders who schedule these events.

Who is the client, and what are they looking for?

First, I learn who the client is and what they’re looking for. I want to understand as much as possible about:

The members of their team

Their goals for their team

What they hope to achieve from the event

What event(s) they have in mind, or if they haven’t picked any, which events I’d suggest for them

This process continues until I feel that I have fully understood the client and have identified the best possible event for their team.

This is essentially an information-gathering process. I need to know who I’m working with and what their goals are so I can facilitate an event they’ll love.

What preparations and changes are needed to check all the boxes?

Once I know what we’re doing and understand the client, it’s time to start prepping for the event.

Since TeamBonding customizes each event to suit the client, this is all about making adjustments to the program to best suit the client’s needs and goals.

This aspect also includes coordinating logistics—such as transportation and refreshments—and gathering the necessary materials, tools, and resources for the event.

What do we need to do leading up to the day of the event?

Once I have everything planned and prepared, my focus shifts towards the day of the event. I keep in close contact with the participants and other relevant parties (like the charities) to check for any last-minute changes.

Sometimes I need to make accommodations to ensure things run smoothly, but not always. Regardless, this step also involves planning for the unexpected—you need to be adaptable.

You can make all the preparations in the world, but life is unpredictable. Things happen, schedules can change, and you need to be able to make those adjustments on the fly.

For example, if we have an outdoor event, we like to arrange a backup indoor location in case the weather throws a wrench in our plans.

Y’all ready for this?

Eventually, you’ll reach the day of the event—that’s where the fun begins! If you’ve done your preparation well, the day of should be a lot less stressful and give you the ability to focus on the moment.

For leaders, this allows them to bond with their team and get their own benefits out of the event. And for facilitators like me, this lets us focus on making sure people are having a good time in the moment.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-63614" class="wp-image-63614" src="https://www.teambonding.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/IMG_2254-300x225.png" alt="Group of four participants sitting on the floor working together to assemble a blue children's bike during a Charity Bike Build team building event.
2. Initial Hesitation

When the event kicks off, there’s always some initial hesitation from participants. This is when you really have to embody the role of a team building facilitator.

In my experience, you have no more than three minutes to do all of the following:

Take command of the room

Get everyone to believe in you, the event, and the experience

Get the participants to understand that you’re not there to teach them—you’re there to provide an experience

Build energy and rapport with the group so they can loosen up

Help get the participants ready for the event to come

Nailing these first several minutes is one of the most challenging aspects of being a facilitator (at least for me).

You only have a small window to make all that happen, and it’s not easy to take charge of a room while energizing and engaging the audience.

Being able to read the room is key. A good facilitator can tell:

When people are feeling shy or detached

The best ways to break the ice for each group—whether that’s through a quick game, jokes, encouraging conversation, or some other method

Once you’ve made it past the initial hesitation and started the event, things tend to fall into place.

If you’ve done the proper preparations and made it through the hesitation, having a fun and impactful team building experience will be inevitable at this point.

3. Lasting Impacts

The end of the event is not the end of my job as a team building facilitator.

Facilitators need to ensure that their events are successful and have lasting impacts, which is why we closely analyze our events post-completion.

The first way I gauge the event’s success is through on-site feedback. I ask myself questions like these about the participants:

Was everyone engaged?

Were they smiling, laughing, and having a good time?

Did they learn new skills and strengthen their bonds?

Did they have an impactful experience?

A good facilitator can read the room and see the energy and passion during the event. Using that feedback during the event is crucial to maintaining the energy, and it also provides valuable insight into the event’s success.

There are also other forms of feedback I look for:

Verbal appreciation: Participants often thank me and my fellow facilitators in person after the event, which is always a good sign. Sometimes energy can be hard to read, and those direct thanks can clarify things.

Repeat customers: If someone comes back for another event, it’s likely they had a good time at the first one, which is another great sign. Having customers return again and again is the best feedback a facilitator can receive.

Surveys: Providing feedback forms and surveys after the event is another way to collect insights. I don’t always use these, but they can be a great way to identify areas for improvement and make your future events even better.

Essential Skills for Team Building Facilitators

To wrap things up, let’s review what it takes to handle the role of a team building facilitator. When I hire and train new facilitators for TeamBonding, I look for specific qualities in potential candidates:

Work Well Under Pressure and Be Flexible: Facilitators need to be comfortable working in time-sensitive situations where they have to make changes on the fly.

Problem-Solving Skills: Being able to quickly solve problems, whether with the event or with participants, is key.

Professional Presentation: Appearances play a big role in how others perceive you, so facilitators need to present themselves professionally.

Public Speaking: Facilitators require public speaking skills to communicate effectively, manage a crowd, and foster employee connections.

Ability to Lead: The ability to lead and guide participants through an event is essential.

Time Management: Participants only have so much time, and facilitators have to manage time effectively throughout the event.

Organization: During the planning stage, in particular, expert organization skills are a necessity.

Dependability: Throughout the event, facilitators must be incredibly reliable to ensure that things run smoothly.

Enthusiasm, Energy, and Presence: A certain amount of charisma is necessary for a facilitator to really capture the audience’s attention and provide an engaging experience.

Fall is in full swing, and that means sweaters, cider, and smashing gourds through the crisp autumn air. Yes, we’re talking about the ultimate fall team building experience: the pumpkin catapult.

It’s chaotic, it’s festive, and it’s precisely the kind of team bonding your workplace needs this season.

You’ve carved them. You’ve baked them. You’ve even sipped them in latte form. But have you ever launched a pumpkin? If not, grab your workplace crew and prepare for a fall themed event that blends creativity, problem-solving, and pumpkin-flying mischief.

Where Did We Get the Idea to Catapult Pumpkins?

It all started when PEAK Scientific reached out for a unique team building experience. We suggested our classic Catapult to Success program, but someone in the room had a brilliant, autumn-inspired twist: catapult pumpkins instead of tennis balls or bean bags. The rest is fall folklore.

The team got to work designing their contraptions, fueled by engineering chops, creative instincts, and a fierce competitive streak. The result? Flying pumpkins, roaring laughter, and serious team synergy. Because nothing bonds coworkers like building a functional machine to hurl squash across a field.

And you know what? It’s perfect for National Pumpkin Day (mark your calendars for October 26) and your next Halloween office party!

Your Step-by-Step Guide to Launching Pumpkins

How do you go about launching pumpkins like a pro? It’s easier than you think, and way more fun than your average team meeting.

Break into teams and hand out equal supplies (see below).

Set a time limit for teams to plan, design, and build their catapult for pumpkins.

Head outside, preferably somewhere open with lots of autumn foliage.

Launch and compete! Judge teams on distance, accuracy, and overall pumpkin catapult design

Celebrate with cider and a trophy shaped like a miniature pumpkin.

You can go full Mad Scientist or keep it sweet and simple. Either way, you’ll walk away with stories, laughter, and a new appreciation for physics.

“The event was great, and everyone had a great time. It was a good way to end a busy week with a bit of team building and a few good laughs. The facilitators were engaged and proactive…everyone did a great job.”

Using Everyday Household Items for a DIY Pumpkin Launcher

You don’t need a physics degree or a welding torch to build a DIY pumpkin launcher. The fun is in using ordinary supplies in extraordinary ways, like duct tape, broomsticks, plastic cups, and team ingenuity. Whether your team builds a slingshot or a trebuchet, it’s all about the good vibes, not the launch codes.

Here are a few materials that work great:

Wooden spoons

Rubber bands

Plastic buckets

String, tape, and cardboard

PVC piping or broomsticks

A healthy disregard for subtlety

Teams must figure out how to catapult pumpkins safely, competitively, and creatively. Some go big and bold with tension-based arms, while other prefer sling-style designs that favor finesse over force. Its all part of the challenge, and the joy of watching a pumpkin fly through the air like a majestic orange cannonball.

A Successful Pumpkin Catapult Design for Team Bonding This Fall!

You’ll know you’ve nailed the pumpkin catapult design when your team is laughing, collaborating, and bragging a little. That’s because catapulting pumpkins brings out the best in people. Whether you’re working through trial and error or making quick group decisions under a ticking clock, every participant is engaged and invested.

Want to take it up a notch? Create side challenges, like the most accurate launcher, the most aesthetic DIY pumpkin launcher, or the team that yelled “fire!” the loudest.

As pumpkins soar, so does team morale. And with the crisp fall air and colorful leaves as your backdrop, the vibes are nothing short of cinematic. Fall is the perfect season to get outside, get creative, and send squash flying through the sky. So, catapult pumpkins with purpose, laughter, and competitive spirit.
